I've been outbid on what the two items were worth to me... maybe a blessing in disguise.

You know what they say: "it's only a bargain if you need it."

Even then, without inspection I would stay well clear from some items. Nothing like saving a few hundred dollars on a mast only for it to break 1/2 km off shore tearing a hole into your $1,200 sail.

Yeah but no fin so there is $300 extra to spend.

=$2K already. You can get a 1yo board for that.

Advantage of the one year old used board is that you can rule out any manufacturing defects. $2k for a board without warranty sounds crazy.

I accidentally placed a bid on a sail whilst trying to do a search .. luckily outbid instantly .. sorry for bumping up the price!

Also placed a bid on a mast base .. outbid also.

Totally impossible to say, depends how they were stored for a start
1000deg near roof, 100deg near floor, how close to the fire....?
When SOS in Fremantle had a fire in the early 2000's (?) there was a lot of boards that just had a nosejob and they were fine. Obviously upright, nose near roof, but not close enough to fire for the rest of the board to be affected.

Thus I reckon these will vary wildly as that's shown in the prices it seems- you can tell what people checked out and its OK

My fear is looking at that pic of the boards stacked up - how many will get dinged up after sale by the rough handling of the auction place employees? They seem to have no idea so far

Is this considered "stored well"?

I bid on a seat harness that suddenly disappeared from the auction this morning, it must have gone home with one of their employees through the week

So how many lots were miraculously won at the max bid price? I smell more than burnt plastic.

I wanted to get a pair of kitesurf pads. North vario footpads.

There was over 6 pairs for sale, 4 were sitting at around the $60 mark, yet 2 few pairs were sitting at $140.
Why bid up to $140, when 4 pairs are $80 bucks cheeper????

Funny that when you add the 22% and $17 posatage, they were finally selling for $6 less than retail price....

FOMO! I have seen similar stuff happen at IT auctions. People buying parts for near retail.

I am sure you'll only be hearing about all the things that turned to be ok but people will stay quiet about duds they bought.

Yeah its all **** or good, not really anything "just sooty and cheap but still good" IMHO.

I'm doing OK with getting the things I wanted. Most at about half retail. Gobsmacked at some of the prices though.

I rang about the lots that disappeared during the day and they reckon they will be listed in a later auction. I call BS on that one, why remove one fin today, just to list it later, when people are buying stuff??

I spent time there Saturday. Most items appeared serviceable but they did bin some items that were obviously damaged beyond usefulness. Maybe that's where some items disappeared.

I went there today and was told the items I bid on had all been removed from the auction because they couldn't be located. (wtf) to be auctioned tomorrow or at a later date. There were a few bargains but a lot of crap too. Why pay $500 for something that retails for $800 (masts) and take the chance it could be farked from the heat. Judging by the condition of some of the items, there was a LOT of heat...It ain't a bargain if you don't need it. ..I got nothing except I now know how these things work.

I bid on a few things where you couldnt enter your own price change. Had to bid at the level they had already set. Eg i wanted to increase bid by $10. But site would only accept $50 increments. Bunch of stoogers.

Wonder what happens if there is a fire in the Lloyds super centre, who gets to auction fire damaged pre- fire damaged goods, and what will the mark up be. I was tempted for five minutes but stayed clear in the end. Whatever happens, be very careful in the second hand market over the coming months of not years.

The old Bombora would have survived the heat as they were pretty much indestructible back in the day. Had one come off the roofracks once and it just bounced away down the road with hardly a scratch on it. Still not sure this one was worth the $83 someones paid for it though.

I'm guessing from many of the comments on here that not many people move in the circles of commercial auctions. LLoydes will not give a **** if its windsurfing gear or washing machines. These Auction houses work on the fast turnover principle get it in get it out make your fixed margin. Im not at all surprised items have gone walkabout. The staff will kick **** out of the way for the next pallet of stuff. Ive seen whole collections split (stamp albums) and therefore destroyed at Raffen and Kellahers here in Sydney.

As for all the neigh sayers and conspiracy theorists here, some comments are laughable. The shop had three sections SUP Windsurf and Kite. The fire was in the SUP section and gutted, the board rack was on the other side of that wall , masts fins booms etc were at the other end of the shop, windsurfing sails in the middle of that room, the kite gear round a corner. The place was a complete mess after the fire it stank and was very black. Some boards were extracted before it got too bad as far as I know. Some gear would be fried, some may be fine having been far enough from the extreme heat, you would have to inspect it & I'm guessing from the photos & prices some gear was in good order, got inspected and purchased.
