you'll need a very small weedy to sail in that!!!!

Bugger, is that going to kill the weed for the next few years, or is there still a bit of weed and water in the middle?

Is that your back yard Jombob?

Need some Queenslanders down there to help you with the weed.

Where was this photo taken? It seems to me the S.A waterways authorities whoever they are are obsessed with keeping seawater out of waterways that naturally had seawater periodically entering them.

Have the council allocated any funding to dig out the inlet on the winter king tides Jamie?

If not, I'll meet you there with shovel in hand

Cripes Jimbob! since when does LG freeze over?. Never mind the need for weed fins, we will need an ice breaker to get through that.

ill find ya glasses Red remember seeing your crash when you lost them FUNNY as.

the sand in the channel to the sea is up to the bridge gunna be a huge job bit much for a few spades guys.
people on the LG management committee tell me its gunna be dug out but the drainage board who do it are very doubtful but either way the weed is gunna be a long way from recovering to the glory days.

Might need a few runs with the plow and seeder to get the weed going. Should be able to place it to cm accuracy now. I have been on another planet for the last 15years and lterally dicovered lg on this internet thing just a few days ago. I watched kato's record video and the place just looked so cool. I was starting to think about a trip and now this. First i discover there are trees growing on sandy point, then i discover no luderitz in 2016, and now this....

what next?

They follow the water, or perish. I heard that Lake Eyre is filling up. That will get the numbers up again.

Jimbob will be able to tell you with more authority, but my impression is this is the first time.
Previously the water level and salinity has been managed to help fish breed in there.
There's freshwater inputs and an ocean channel. But as Jimbob says the ocean channel is full of sand, and the freshwater was diverted to other lakes further west.

A great shame, this was one of the Australian premier GTC venues, maybe not the fastest in Australia, but all other divisions are possible.
Many sailors have several of their PBs here.

Hmmmm? Incidental weed, fair enough, but doesn't this infringe on Law 42 of cricket?

www.lords.org/mcc/the-laws-of-cricket/players-conduct

www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/cricket/bushrangers-wicketkeeper-matthew-wade-cops-ban-for-pitch-tampering/story-fni2fnmo-1226761940511

You'd have to think that weed alters the apparent viscosity of water. Possibly even pushing it into the category of a non-Newtonian fluid.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apparent_viscosity

Years ago I was decanting large volumes of ethanol for preserving timber samples. It pours noticeably different to water. Not sure if it would be better or worse to sail in. But if it was better it'd be the same thing wouldn't it? Law 42. Not cricket.

If you hypothetically filled one of these speed trenches with a liquid of a more favourable dynamic viscosity would the records be valid? Industrial ethanol is reasonably priced, it might do the job. If the trench was constructed accurately to the bare minimum volume, crash mats on either bank for safety? It's doable even if there's only a knot or two in it.

OK. You dig the trench and I have found the pump!

It does around 1.5m gallons and hour at full noise! 750mm Pipe!

These two whoppers could probably fill Lake George in a Month or two!

Two V12 twin Turbo 2 stroke Diesels driving two 1 meter diameter inlet and outlet pipes. Over 6M gallons and hour. I would hate to be paying the fuel bill!

Not sure of your plan Sailquick. Are you aiming to push the maximum allowable tidal assist in a speed trench with those pumps?

Reminds me of the speed cyclists, the maximum allowable slope for record setting is 2/3 of 1%. That's right, they searched the entire continent for a straight uniform downhill section of road with a 2/3 of 1% gradient. ( 85.71 mph, Battle mountain Nevada, www.theverge.com/tldr/2015/9/18/9351763/worlds-fastest-bike-human-powered 85.71 mph )

Nah Ian, I just want to fill up a trench somewhere windy!

My Cousin said the dam is filled to within 30 cm of the top. I asked him if they ever have any strong winds. He said a super cell storm came through before christmas and flattened some grain silo's! . I told him that might be just a tad more than I was looking for!

I was in the Wimmera once when you fellas were having a windy day at Sandy Point. It was windy there also. Flat as, and a few irrigation ditches around. Do a google search of "Wimmera irrigation channels". This google earth shot seems to have a dry irrigation channel in it?

Yeah, I thought that was a good avenue to explore some time ago, but I found almost all of them have trees or forest alongside them, and they are very rarely filled to the top.
