A question for those who have a Mach3 Race 6.2... the Severne website recommends it be rigged on an rdm (the Mach1 and Mach2 could be rigged on either rdm or sdm with a cam change.) Is anybody running their Mach3 Race sail on a sdm?Just interested in your thoughts if you do. Cheers.
Hi Mike, I have the 6.2 Mach 3, never tried it on an sdm, I use the rdm 430 and love it, I previously had the Mach 1 6.2m rigged on 430 sdm, and finding general handling using the rdm is much easier.

Thanks Dezza. What I thought!
I have Overdrive M2 6.2 and 7.0 on RDM and they are very nice. I recently bought a 5.5 Mach 2 and rigged it on an old 100 percent carbon 400 SDM wave sail with SDM cams. I haven't had it on the water but seemed a little stiff to rig and difficult to rotate so I took a couple of spacers out. I'll see how it goes in a month or so once it gets wet and stretched.

Thanks remery. Overdrives on website say sdm or rdm are ok. Mach 1 & 2 say sdm & rdm are ok for the 6.2 Race, but Mach 3 only says rdm on website. So wondering if sdm will work on this model.
Has the Mach 3 got that thin bit of cord/twine/string on the mast head? I'd love to know what it does.
I don't have Mach 3s, but I do have Mach 2s. I originally rigged my 6.2 on a 430 SDM Severne mast, but the older Enigma rather than the more recent ones. I was never very happy with the way it set up. On remery's recommendation, I switched over to a Severne 430 RDM and it is much better. I now use RDM for the 5.5 and 6.2, then 460 SDM for 7.0 and above
Tnx Pacey. Am going to try on sdm, and if not happy, will buy an rdm and extension. Lack of travel spending during Covid has left me with a little spare cash.
If you buy a severne rdm extension, make sure you get the new 3 pulley version rather than the old 2 pulley. You need the extra purchase for these sails

Will do. Tnx.

If your talking about the little loop it's so you can pin it to something to make getting the mast out easier. If your talking about a longer bit that seems to just flap about no idea, I've seen it on a few but never worked it out
I've got a Mach2 5.5m and use it on a sdm and it works fine. Better rotation than my M2 Overdrives!
Will give the sdm a try.

This bit of string.
Yes
I thought one end might have Velcro adjustment so it could be tightened when the top of the sail sags. But no.
I heard somewhere that it is to stop flutter in head of sail when it is extremely twisted off. morning maybe not...
It's there to show all you speedsters the apparent wind angle. As you approach warp factor 9 just look up n take a gander. Adjust course/ sail as necessary.
We'd plant a screwdriver in the grass through it so the sail wouldn't wrinkle when we pulled the mast out.

That's the little white loop not the long one
Just emailed Severne to find out.
Noooooo... then the mystery, the guessing, the intrigue all will come to an end!!!

This bit of string.
off cut the sewing machine ran over in production
Bit of a rubbish one as it's sown down at both ends
Maybe the upgrade for the m4 is they unstitch one end of it
Pulling it will make the leash a bit more tight and less open.
