Mine flashes red once about every 12 seconds automatically, so no need to press any buttons to check it's on. You might need to update your firmware Dave
If you are receiving the new Mini, please note:
- the nice casing side needs to look at the sky.
- the other side goes against the wireless charger.
- the strap is longer than usual so you can loop it twice around your arm (like in the pic below). It increases the holding force.
Battery life is now 30+ hours. There's fixes for every hardware bug that happened twice ever and a new antenna fixation system. There will be a firmware upgrade in 2 weeks with new features.
By December 31st, I'll have shipped 1000 of these. Thank you. :)
I'll discuss LCDs in a week or two.
Has the strap placement changed on the latest casings? Mine is a couple of years old and I place the strap side on my arm and on the charger.
Yes. On your device, it is clear which side is which because one side has the holes for the strap. On these new devices the casing is one piece, mostly symmetrical, the strap is passed on the edges and both main surfaces are flat so it isn't directly clear to a new user which side is GNSS antenna and which side is wireless charging coil. There's still differences, once knowledgeable you'll never get it wrong. But I thought I'd warn before most devices arrive.
I've been advised by Julien L in a email that he won't be making any more motion lcd devices. He says he's "all out of resources (and) ideas."
Yes I have heard the same thing - No more LCD Screen Motions. But just to clarify he will still be making the non screen mini motions.
So how many follk in Australia have a working LCD Screen Motion?
I still have a version 1, it will be 5 years old in March.
Mine v2 just died a few days ago, no longer charging. It was a great device, but my mini and a watch will do
My version 1 is tangled in weed at Pt Grey after it escaped from it's pouch in a 38kt catapult, about 4 years ago, I doubt it's still working.
He hasn't responded to emails from a few of us regarding minis orders and a couple of warranties since around 20th January, hopefully he's just busy with other commitments and will be back online soon
Just a note for those with newer minis shipped in last few months, you may've noticed the LED bulb protrudes from the top of the case more than the earlier models to improve to its visability on water. We have one case recently of the led bulb cracking, no idea how. In advance of advice from Julien it could be worth adding some diy protection to the bulb in case of a knock or drop onto hard surface.
Howdy brains trust,
Struggling to download my track from today.
The log is showing on the motion but when I download it, it is telling me it is an insecure download.
File is downloading as a CRDOWNLOAD file.
Any ideas?
cheers
Troy
I just received a test message from Julien which is a relief to hear he is OK.
He is keen to repay all the paid, unfulfilled LCD orders and has just got (late) payment for a job and is about to begin.
Long story short, I'm cleaning the LCD slate. I'm all out of ideas short of making custom screens and I don't want to throw money into the firepit right now.
I'll carry on doing Minis and handling warranties and supporting competitions but I switched job and the last 2 months have been wild. It will get better in the Spring. I have enough parts on hand to make 180 Minis. I won't take preorders ever again.
Hi Julien, I know the motions are not serviceable, but is there any chance we could open It with a dremel and try another screen by our own risk?. I would give It a chance before leaving It bricked. I have the older lcd with a black screen and a wireless slowly diying, so are many of my Friends.
If you could just give us the right reference i would give It a shot. It doesn't need to be a color screen maybe the cheapest compatible lcd,
Opening the motions by the sides probably would leave them unsealed, but having them in a waterproof plastic case would be better than nothing
Hello, I don't think it can be done. On top of being potted, everything inside is glued together. You will most likely damage other parts during the process. I know exactly where everything is and I can't do it. Whatever you do, do not approach the battery with a sharp object or a Dremel.
In other news, I'm producing 70 Minis. And LCD refunds are on hold. It was going great until I was also asked to refund the extended limit on the business credit card so all my bonus went in that firepit (legacy of trying to make LCDs happen one last time). It'll resume as I sell Minis again. Then I have another bonus coming in June.
As I understand it, Mike K888 is currently scoring the ISWC/Prince Of Speed with the 100 Minis of the Weymouth Speed Week and his tools!
Hi There
Need a bit of tech help
Just changed phones to Samsung A15 and now having trouble accessing motion data
Doing the same process as worked in the past with last phone
So I do get the motion connected to the new phone via wifi, but when i do 192.168.0.1 to access motion data it says This site can't be reached, I hit the reload a few times but still no go
Any ideas, is there a setting in the phone blocking access ?
Cheers TK
Another possibility : try it with the complete url ("h t t p://ip") in front ! Works for me with mobile data on.
