Round 5 : Lake Illawarra, KoBSC, 7th March 2020
Also note that the scoring system has changed for this season - see section 12 in the NOR.
There should be plenty of new gear on display (foiling gear at least) and hopefully some new competitors. As in previous seasons there will be two divisions - open and free formula/foil, the latter which caters for those starting out with racing.
Should be a lot of fun - get involved!
Thanks Glen and Muz and organisers, I'm in for the series, .. carnt wait ! Sticking with Formula this year Roj
Hope to make the effort one of the lake illawarra days and get up there from Melbourne for some fun racing
Sounds too good to miss out on
Despite the drive
Awesome Muz & Glen, great work. Great to have a new club venue in the mix. I will be running on FW and fin this myself, but keeping a close eye on the Foil developments through the season ahead. Likely miss that first Illawarra event, but will be there for the rest.
Also, a cheeky plug I know, but anyone looking for NSW Series insurance through a virtual WS NSW affiliated club, Stormriders is taking memberships for the season ahead. www.stormriderswindsurfingclub.com
Hi Guys,
Just a reminder that this season's series starts this Saturday on Lake Illawarra at the Koonawarra Bay Sailing Club.
Please get your season's entry done online at www.windfoil.com.au The sailing Instructions have now been posted also.
Parking arrangements shown below.
Drinks will available at the club, but no food. The closest food/coffee shop is on Lakeside drive.
Looking forward to it!
Hi Guys,
Just a reminder of the regatta times at the KoBSC, this Saturday (5th Oct):
-->registration : 10:30am - 11 am
-->briefing : 11 am
-->first possible start signal : 12pm
The forecast is not brilliant with "gentle winds" predicted, but potentially increasing in the afternoon.
The foilers should be able to get going in about 8 knots so it will be a good test of the "big" gear.
Please get your registration done on-line (at windfoil.com.au) - it saves time on the day and makes managing the money a lot easier.
See you there!
Yeah, as Berowne has said we were skunked by the wind. It was a case of almost. Another 2 knots and we would have been on. Most of us were able to get foiling/planing (formula), but not quite enough to race.
Thanks to the KoBSC guys (Jon. the Ralphs and Dave) for trying to get a race in for us.
Nice to catch up with the foiling race crew after the winter and especially nice checking out the new gear from FMX, F4, AFS, NP, JP and SV.
Next foil race chance is at the Jervis Sea n Sand event, (not part of the NSW series) , followed by Round 2 of the series at Marmong (Lake Mac) on the 23rd Nov.
Hey Foilers,
check out this forum thread from John Doolan....

Calling all Classes - Windsurfer, Raceboard, BIC Techno, Foil and Glide!
Windsurfing NSW has organised an all Class Relay event, the details are as follows :-
Date : 23-Feb-2020Beach Start : 10amFinish : 4pmLocation : Georges River Sailing ClubTeams of 1 person per classSuggested Classes (one of each of the following) :-
1. Windsurfer (Original/OD/LT)2. Raceboard3. BIC Techno (Dave Bell will be getting the youth fleet organised, BIC Techno's will be assigned to each team as needed)4. Glide (Dave Bell is arranging Glides for each team)5. Foil (Glen Morrell will be assisting in getting the Foil fleet organised)
Winners are the team with the most number of laps completed in the time period (if equal laps, then first to the beachside changeover point on leading number of laps). Laps will be short to keep the interchange rate rolling over and to keep everyone involved throughout the day.
This is going to require boardspeed, teamwork and tactics like you have never needed before!
So start getting your teams arranged, or if you can't get a full team together contact me (John.doolan@gmail.com) and I can assign you to a team (let me know what class of board you would like to ride). This is going to be a great fun event and a fantastic opportunity to unite all our fleets and showcase our sport to the general public. So come and join in the fun.
The Gosford boys already have a team. Who is coming to challenge us in the event of the Summer???
So, Lake Macquarie guys.....
We need a lake Mac team maybe combining Marmong and TORONTO... who's interested?
Maybe even two teams, we have several Windsurfers at Toronto but no foilers or specialist raceboarders...call Al Haynes on 0438336495 or John Doolan.
this will be an awesome event on the beach with Le mans start and changeovers bringing us all together for a great day of spectating and sailing at GRSC
Just a reminder that Round 2 of the series is on this Saturday (23rd Nov 19) on Lake Macquarie at Marmong. Rego starts at 10:30am, briefing at 11:00am and first possible race at 12. There will be a maximum of 5 races.
If you haven't entered for the series then entry will be $30.
Long range forecast looks like a light S to SE, however Marmong always seems to turn it on irrespective of the forecast!
There should be a bit of new gear to spy!
See you there
Yeah I heard that too...
We tried to hold a few unofficial slalom races but only 2-5 were able to fly the course the winds were so light.
Good of opportunity to tune gear, measure angles and gawk at latest kit.
Great location. If only it was 2 knots windier!!
Hey guys,
Just a reminder that round 3 of the NSW Series is on this Saturday, (8th Feb) at Marmong on Lake Macquarie.
Looks like some good winds from the SE.
As before, rego starts at 10:30am, briefing at 11:00am and first possible race at 12. There will be a maximum of 5 races.
Some of us will be razor sharp from just having compled in the Nats so watch out!
After the first two rounds produced no results it was great to be greeted with some wind, albeit very gusty and a bit wet!
The Marmong guys had the standard windward return course setup quickly so we were on for the first race just after 12. Wow, that was hard - the wind was all over the place, with many holes and some strong gusts. I think the peak gusts were over 20 knots and the lulls at 2 knots!
Great to see 10 foilers on the water and 3 formula guys (yes they still exist!). Three races were rattled off quite quickly and then a lunch break , then finishing off with 2 more races.
Some close racing in the difficult conditions made for good fun.
Thanks to the Marmong crew for the day and particularly to Muz & Jeff in the boat.
Results below - if you see an error let me know.
