is the next session in 14th of February? :)Best regards
Max
Yep 9.00am
Hey Cam
Thanks for the PM.
We had planned for grandparents to take the kids while the wife & I enjoy valentines day but.....
I showed my wife this thread and we are now starters for this Saturday - and I couldn't be happier.
Thanks again & see you there.
Dan, Kath, Sam & Jonah
What a great morning we had today thanks to Cameron, his initiative, time sacrifice and enthusiasm.
We joint the Juniors Windsurfing session with our kids 4 & 7.5 yo and they had a great time. My 4 yo son was more plying in the water and watching but my 7.5 yo daughter had a go and she can't wait to come back next Saturday. It was my first visit to RQYS and I was amazed with all the facilities, huge clean grass areas, restaurant, BBQ, sand pit for kids and all sort of sailing equipment for kids.
The actual windsurfing area is great as well. Pretty large shallow area with mostly sandy bottom is very safe. There is also risen shaded stand area where parents can watch the kids sailing around the markers.
If anybody is just thinking about introducing windsurfing to kids, I would highly recommend to give it a go. It's so affordable I can't believe it. For $16 p/m to be able to have an access to all the facilities, training program and equipment is outstanding. At the end of the day even if kids decide it's not for them, as long as they have some fun and laugh, that what it's all about.
Thanks Cameron, well done.
Thanks George and Dan for bringing your families down its great to see whole families enjoying a morning of windsurfing.
Glad your kids had a great time if they dont remember everything they learned in the session that doesn't matter what we want them to remember is windsurfing is fun.
I know my son enjoyed yesterday more than the other sessions simply because there were other kids there. Hoping we can build a group of kids that make friends with each other and share a common interest in windsurfing.
I agree with you George.
Programs like this take dedication and passion from people who love the sport, and are prepared to give their time and expertise to help others enjoy it.
Our first visit to RQYS was enjoyable for the whole family last Saturday. We drove through the lush rigging area with our sailboards on the roof & returned some friendly waves from like minded people. Nothing like feeling welcome on your first visit!!!!
Cam introduced himself when we parked & made sure my 5 year old was engaged with the activities.
We had some exercises on the simulator, followed by some on water fun. Even though we had 15 knots+, Cameron found a way to make it safe and fun.
Nothing wets an appetite more than sailing, so we stride 3 minutes to the RQYS restaurant/bar (in boardies & havianas) to enjoy some lunch.
Should I mention our meals took no longer than 10 minutes to come out. Quality nosh too.
We watched some technos, lasers, & catamarans launch at the ramp on the way back from lunch. Forget everything you've seen at public boat ramps - everyone knows what they are doing, and has the utmost courtesy for fellow members.
People, there is no pressure in this group. It's all about FUN!
The only cost to us was lunch, but you could bring your own if you wish.
I'm going to trade in some of my boards so my 5 year old can have his own setup. This will free up the club equipment for others who want to join in the FUN.
Most of my other "club" experiences are well into the thousands/year. This club is not about the money, it's about the kids.
See you on Saturday Cam.
Dan, Kath, Sam & Jonah.
Hi Michael
Its looking a bit dodgy at the moment. If it is unsafe we will cancel. I will post an update in a couple of days.
Cheers
Cameron
Junior windsurfing is cancelled this weekend due to extreme weather. Hope to see everyone back the following Saturday.
9.00am start this Saturday, low tide at 1.30pm and light onshore breeze should make for ideal conditions
Won't be able to get there tomorrow..mom is in the hospital. Angus and I will be there next weekend tho...
A picture from the weekend, we had 6 boards sailing on the water. One brand new starter was up and running in his very first session on a windsurfer.
Wish I got a picture of Dan hitching a ride on the front of his windsup as his 5yo son sailed him into shore with his new Ezzy 1.0mtr rig. Easy than chasing after him was Dans logic.
HI George & Cam
We are going to head up the coast tomorrow, due to the Tinnie & Tackle show.
See you next week.

A reminder that juniors must be a club member to participate and have registered at the Yachting Australia link below. These requirements are compulsory in order to have all the insurance needs covered to protect the participants, volunteer coaches and club. RQ has made special arrangements for this program that allows juniors to become a club member and pay monthly with an option to waive the outstanding balance on a normal yearly junior membership should your child decide the don't want to continue.
Adults have an option to become a full member or just pay for a daily membership. http://www.yachtingaustralia.com.au/Entry/?EID=70706
PS. This school term will be a great time to get your kids or yourself into windsurfing, the water is still warm and the winds typically become quite light so its perfect for learning. Hope to see some new faces, all are welcome.
This weeks session begin's at 1.00pm on Saturday, plans are to set a small course and do a bit of friendly racing.
Max had a great afternoon today in the gentle winds.
High Five.
Thanks Dave, Cameron and Shari for a great time
Cheers Jeff
I've just had another read of this thread and have been speaking to parents who have enrolled their kids and they are loving the program.
Great work Cameron and all the other families making this all possible.
