Well that's going to suck. It's already hard enough getting parks there on a nice day. One of the only good low tide launch spots in Brisbane

here's the link for everyone not in wynnum.

Terrible news and absolute crap, put some sensible low level commercial development there not high rise. Hopefully they built that section the same as rest of the harbour and foundation isn't stable enough to support it.

I know the multihull yacht club are putting together an objection.

They also run sailability out of that area so hopefully they can get enough weight behind the objections to stop it.

The whole thing reeks of trickery and corruption. How did that land previously zoned for recreational use get rezoned for commercial development ???
I would say that got 'snuck" through with other rezoning business. Last time they tried to develop the spit with multistory retail and residential buildings it got knocked back after much local protest. You can be sure the people pushing for this new crap have got $ in their eyes. They don't give a stuff about the regular people who use this location for seaside recreation. Sailors, fishermen. picnicers, boat watchers, and yes, windsurfers. Isn't the government supposed to protect us from these greedy opportunistic bastards ? Not assist them ? It's the equivalent of the Government selling a public park to a shopping centre or Hotel company.

So to recap, CORRUPTION , GREED , EXPLOITATION, $$$$$$$$$....It's BAD !

What are the boundaries of the development? Does it encroach on the existing road, roundabout, parking and parkland or is it confined to the foot print of the existing restaurant and function centre?

"100 full time employees for a 90 room motel". Are you joking! I am sure that will have an impact on the Traffic Management Plan.

is that a normal employee to room ratio , wouldnt that not be profitable . Actually just re read the article the " could create 100 full time jobs before and after the project " is just made up to try and convince people its good for us all .

Is that on purpose so they don't get any complaints?

Have a look at the development application at http://pdonline.brisbane.qld.gov.au/MasterView/modules/applicationmaster/default.aspx?page=wrapper&key=A003908538

Looks pretty big. Takes out the Darling Point Sailing Squadron and the Coast Guard as well.

Looking at the plan, there are about 90 rooms and only 50 car parking spots, Could be a good place to start your objections.

There's a few submissions, so feel free to add to the list

Interesting. It seems though that all development application looks to be through the BCC. Sure the state gov may own the land, but it seems the BCC will have a say in approval. Maybe he needs a push??

I've just checked out the BCC web site. I'm having dificulty seeing what the fuss is about. The development is on a 2000m2 block of land west of darling point sailing club, 300m west of the windsurfing car parking area. The nearest convenient public car park to the hotel is further west of the hotel. The hotel has 50 parking spaces and 90 rooms. A % of guests will fly in and not need car parking. I suspect the impact on windsurfing at Manly will be minimal.

Clive,

I stand corrected, I thought the development was located on Lease MG SP201491. I see now that its located adjacent the roundabout at the end of Trafalgar St and the potential overuse of our usual parking spots during construction and operation.

Does the proposed development fall within the guidelines of the local development plan? Does anyone have any suggestions on possible successful strategies to oppose this development? Is it possible to prohibit the use of parking spots by construction personnel during the construction and hotel staff during operation a condition of the DA?

Maybe we could persuade them to add an some public parking, external shower, some toilets, BBQ etc to make it beneficial for us too

Let's not stop there, how about complimentary drinks and food, as well as consierge assitance with rigging and derigging in compensation for the free spectacle for their guests of us windsurfing.

I don't think so. The development is defined by the Legend "Lease WB" and "Area of proposed building works". I think the blue indicates the potential flood zone.

An alternative windsurfing venue during the construction period could be the public land adjacent to Royal Qld Yacht Squadron, accessed by the road adjacent to the yacht trailer park. I have sailed here on a number of occassions in NE and SE winds. Remember having to take a bit of a walk with gear during low tide. Rigging area not as good as Trafalgar St and limited car parking at end of road.

I have been told there will be a meeting of concerned residents on Sunday 20th at the Sailability Bayside headquarters Norfolk Point at nine o'clock. I'll see if I can get some contact details and info about the organisers if anyone is interested.

Got news for ya Flashman. That area is getting "developed" soon too. As in land filled for RQ/ Port expansion....
