Over 3 m tides and bolt onshore, should be able to do long flat water runs up to into crocodile country behind the sand spit at Alva.

I'm going to try Nelly Bay in the easterlies. Looking good direction wise. Last time out there in a bit of breeze the swell was great. Sadly only for the weekend

Geezus could you make the speedo any bigger and it goes up to 35+ knots "tell him he's dreaming" Your feet are too far apart your harness lines are too short and your eyes are too close together, your never going to be as fast as Dean.

the winds seem to have been nice for a week or two .i took out the speed 250 with the 9.5 loft race board sail with the down haul and out haul adjuster fitted ,the winds were about 14 to 16 knts, i still have a lot of trouble with this sail trying to power you in to the water and round up the board even when fully down hauled and out hauled and requires a real lot of back hand pressure and lots rake forward to stop it heading up wind. the sail is fine once board is moving and on the plane .the board has a us style fin box and can only take a 36 cm fin. is there any body that has some experience on these sails ,i could use the advise.

Nelly Bay/Geoffrey Bay tested about 10 times now....when there is an E or SE it is magic. Flat water on the inside from half tide then a bit of a swell / wave on the outside. When it is an outgoing tide and there is a bit of breeze there are nice lumps in the water to play on. Ideal board seems to be with volume and vee ( gotta get my Fox over there!). Today with light wind over on the mainland there was a usable breeze on the island. 20 min on the ferry so no driving. A revelation in NQ sailing for me!!

still trying to work out the logistics on this ferry over is easy ,but gear to the bay might be hard,or bring over boat with gear in ,or car ferry?

Gear in car is a good option if staying a while or if there are a few people to go. I have a bit of gear over st the island now which makes life easy. Have my old stuff there while I figured out where the rocks are!

10-15 knot SE in Mackay today. Went out on my 170 GO with 7.7 NP Hornet for a few laps. The wind was pretty consistent so switched to my 121 Carve. Made a short vid, sorry no audio.

Hey OW great video

love how the older GOs work - lightwind weapon

the carve certainly looked faster in the conditions any gps data?

agree with carve needing consistency in wind strength

cheers jeff

G'day Grich, depends what you're calling the front beach, it was at Far beach which is aka Illawong beach which is at East Mackay just south of Town Beach.

Yeah Jeff, I've certainly got my monies worth out of my old GO. I bought a formula board a few months ago and hated it and sold it 3 months later, too technical for a hack weekend free rider like myself and so fragile you had to tip toe around it. I sold it before I broke it. I prefer simple plug and play.

I don't own a GPS and got no intention of buying one. It was choppier than it looks on the vid and I didn't feel I was going that fast. I was fighting with the Carve to go upwind, had the stock 42 Drake fin on it which I thought would be ample, spun out twice on port tack but that's probably just a technique issue.

Happy sailing mate!

20-25 knot SE in Mackay today, went out with a 5.0 on a 94 Kode. Some pretty wild weather heading our way next week, ex TC Iris is going to be hanging around wreaking havoc.

Adam has a 150 GO the same year as yours OW and my 155 GO is a 2010, they are the best "bang for your buck" utility boards available, good for light winds or stronger winds. Adam uses either 8.2 or 9m twin cam sails and I use 9m NCX for light wind. Adam swears by a 56cm race fin for all sail sizes which works real well. I've got a 56 Drake race fin too, but I've been using a 50cm freeride fin I've borrowed off Jeff for powered up sailing with smaller sails and a 70cm formula fin cut down to 60cm for light winds. This board has relegated my much newer and nicer 154 Magic Ride back to the shed for most of the time now

^ Interesting comment about your Magic Ride, I haven't used one but they certainly get some raps.

My stock 56 drake fin I got with the GO is pretty shagged now, I got a G-Sport Carve 58 for $50 and is nice and solid. Nowadays I only use the GO with my 8.5 Lion or 7.7 hornet, fin works a treat with those sails although I could probably go bigger with the Lion, debatable though whether I'd plane earlier.

hi orange whip i started with a 7.5 then went to a 8.5 then a 9.5,the 9.5 definitely planes earlier than the 8.5 by a few knots , i can now get going in about 12 to 14 knots on the short boards where on the 8.5 its about 16 knots plus, good to see the wind down there ,it still has not kicked in up here
