Don't get me wrong OW, the Magic Ride is a fantastic board that rides better in harsh chop but it doesn't stay on the plane in the holes or light wind anywhere near as easily as an old GO with a wider tail.

Not looking relevant form Mackay in the next few days but 9.5 is definitely a good option for earlier planing! I'll support Grich on that one. 9.5 is my main sail size even on big slalom boards let alone boards like my Ultrasonic

Had a great start to the day, a couple of hours of flat water blasting in a consistent 15 knots SE'ly. Blue sky, bright sunshine, pristine ocean, you gotta love winter in NQ

Nice work Greg! Looks like you have similar conditions as weve got atm. Decent TOW is hard to come by this winter. Ive only sailed about one tenth of what i did last year. Dismal....
Make sure to bring some wind if you trek south

Had some super early sea breezes up here in the Ville the last few days. 12-ish knots NE and despite being gusty was a nice bit of winter breeze. Got out on a 120l Naish Titan for the first time which seems to suit the Pallarenda lumps incredibly well. Agree that the SE winds have been pretty hopeless up here this year- fingers crossed for Huey to send some late big SE systems! Weekend was more foiling/big board wind. Then again mid July and 1mm wetsuit still being toasty is hard to take.

BTW I have to pass comment on the Naish Titan I bought from Simon from his discounted gear section. Super low price ( as in amazingly so) for a board that planes early, was super smooth in the chop, spools up some nice speed and if you stand up over it jumps and throws around well! I thought it'd be pretty good but expectations very much exceeded!

Yep the weather is wacko. Northerlys rolling in down here, mid winter??? Only light but it makes me keen for some summer action again. On the plus side the water is much clearer here at GB in winter. Cool to see all the marine life.

Boardies all the way. Water is still 23'C. Chuck a bigger sail up n start pumping. You wont feel the cold at all. Great fitness training.

Don't you hate that...........
Had a quick look at the forecast last night and it was so dismal I committed to other activities around sailable tide time. And of course it ended up blowing 10 to 15, could have been out on my big girl with my big boy 8.5 Ezzy having a phat time, oh well, will be keeping tomorrow avaiabLe to sail if it comes up.

After a pretty dismal looking start to the wind today a NE-er maybe 10-12 knots with a few gusts to 14-ish came up in the Ville...hopefully a harbinger of some better sea breezes! Got out on Naish Titan 120 and an 8.2 which after some initial wallowing / dredging lit up in the light stuff and was awesome- new board ( out of the Board Crazy "specials" area- bargain thanks Simon!) to me and really enjoying its ability to absorb chop and turn in short radii. After being a "slalom boards only" kinda guy this foray into freerace boards is pretty cool ( and my knees love it). Rowes Bay's seabed has changed radically in recent weeks - shallow area goes way further out and in front of the caravan park is turning into a "high tide only" area. Greg ( Grich) tells me its cyclical. Watch your fins Townsville sailors!

Anyone interested in a 25km open water sail from Cape Cleveland to Cape Pallarenda? The NQ Paddle Series team have generously offered to have a small number of windsurfers join the paddle crew. Likely a broad reaching / downwind sail. Safety gear a must. 9 Sep is the date. Not sure of cost yet but won't be expensive. If w can make this work this could become a great race fixture. Travel out to the start on ferry. The paddlers start about midday we would be behind which gives more time for some breeze to build.

Thanks Michael - we will be there! $55 entry fee gets us the ferry transfer to the start point. Registered via the nq paddle series website. Maybe good to give the new LT its maiden run. Can't wait!
