You're right, the industry should not cater to beginners. It will be kept alive forever by 50 year old sailors and they know how to rig.

Noerstick, just came across this weird piece of kit. What's the point? Is it really so hard to remember what length you had the extension set at for what sail.

I looked , even had my glasses on I don't see anything by Noerstick.

i can tell you what Eileen Munson had ( clothes) on in 11 th grade Math Review class,
but not what I had for breakfast

I think the point is you just downhaul to the perfect setting without having to remember anything -

But it only works if you use the same sail all the time.Monck you've readjusted it for another sail there's no markings on it to remember where you had it for the other one so you have to search for the right spot again

^ That thing enables you to downhaul by pushing the mast up. So you can fix the tack block to block and keep it there for any downhaul setting you want to use. You can't do that with conventional extensions.
