OK local gurus, easterly forecast for the days Thursday through to Sunday, good wind speed too. How are we looking? Would the channels be working or is it in the bay?

I don't care what direction just as long as there's some wind

Channels will be on but I think due to how narrow they are the race may be in the bay.....

Anyone care to correct me?

No good at all for racing in the channel, barley enough room to do a jybe in Southern end.....let alone 10-20+sailors with really only one main channel in the inlet now. Details will follow closer to weekend I suspect, will be most Likly held in bay if decided to race, making the briefing as normal in Stanley caravan car park. Will have jetskis and dingy ect on venue.

If forecast holds could be ideal for both Fun sailing with GPS also?? With the racing, again more info to come Thursday or so? So see how it goes.

I'm all for the actual racing if we have the marker buoys and a jet ski or boat that can set them (in what might be pretty rough conditions out in the bay), but would there be any interest in running the racing as a GPS based event? With all disciplines except distance (ie 2-sec, 5x10, 1hr, NM and alpha) providing 5 results per day over the two days of racing (ie Sat and Sun)? This would provide 10 'scores' to generate a ranked result.

Also keen for for a GPS based event as well, or lets call it a GUNFIGHT

Also, if we did include any GPS results, the sailing would need to be within a defined area at Stanley!

I agree with Dave. Latta Point is definitely out of the question.

How about 3 slalom races sometime over the weekend, good for practice gybing around bouys with lot's of bodies around. Then the rest of the time Freerace and maybe a marathon race to Port Latta and back, the world is your oyster.

Should Definatly be trying for 6 races each day if possible, to make up for port sorell and the southern round 2 cancellations. Then see what people would like to do after the racing is out of the way? Per day.

Looks like sleeping in the car at Godfreys then. Unless someone cancels their camp site

You can definitely stay on the Eastern side near the wharf but be warned, last time I was there they were unloading some cattle and if there is a boat in they lock the gates so you can't get out. A better option is to camp on the other side of the nut which I assume is Godfreys, but you must go west of the camping sign. This is not far from the toilet block so not a biggie. Another bonus is that it is not as windy. I'll be at Godfreys, can always have a cold beer and watch the TV if you get bored.

Not sure how big our camp site is Kazza but if there is enough space you might be able to fit on there

Do we have a race briefing at 12 noon to give people coming up from Hobart time to get there? And whereabouts? Stanley Caravan Park at the car park by the beach or at East Inlet? Low tide at the inlet, so no good for racing there at that time.
