The weekend of the 10-12th of March is the Stanley weekend and the AGM. The AGM is to be held nominally on Sunday am (TBC) dependent on wind conditions.

It is time to call for nomination of representatives. The current committee will be meeting before the weekend to review what's worked and what hasn't worked this year and to draft up recommendations to put to the AGM.

We need to fill the positions of:
President
Secretary
Treasurer
Public officer
AWA representative

The committee will also require a number to share the event coordination and other committee duties and be the ideas team.
ie...
Race/Slalom coordinator
Wave sailing co-ordinator (North/South)
Publicity coordinator

Hi Adam, I won't be able to make it. On Flinders then (hopefully sailing)! I am happy to continue as a general Windsurfing Tas comittee member, but unable to take on higher duties - if there's members who want to have a go, I'll step aside. I'll keep hiring out one set of WT learners gear unless anyone else wants to take that on.

I'm happy to continue as President if that gets the vote.

I think WT has come along way in the last 12 months, and everyone who has been involved has been part of that.

If a few people from the South were able to get on board that would be great- as a few of the longer term members have put in their fair share over the years and probably deserve a break. Making the organisation truly "state-wide" is essential to making it work well in my opinion.

With a few big acheivements in this last year (eg incorporation of WT, the first "full" calendar and state title in many years, a freerace event- and only the one due to wind not cooperating) there is a lot of opportunity to go further. As an example, seeing the turnout for the Dash for Cash (biggest in many years) including lots of guys on old-school gear, shows the breadth and level of interest from lots of folks.

Some plans are falling in to place .

Saturday evening will be a pub meal night.
Sunday a BYO BBQ at the caravan park and the presentation evening.

The Stanley Hotel does not like large bookings so we need to make smaller bookings.
Three tables have been booked at the pub for 8:00pm a 10, an 8 and another 8 seats.
If you would like to put your name to one of the booked seats please text me on 0488 586 076 , or claim a seat on this tread, if you are planning to make your own booking I would advise making it ASAP.

Stay tuned on the sailing agenda for the weekend here, as GPS sailing times will be refined as the weather is easier to predict.
Its a long way out but we are hoping for a wave sail at Marrawah on Saturday, it will be fairly flat on the Saturday but the swell may increase over the weekend.

Geoff Cook, being the local, will be the advisor on the locations closer to the weekend.

Not only is this beautiful Cape Country trophy up for grabs at the Stanley weekend, but also there are lucky door prizes for the presentation evening including these original 1890's Mambo shirts, plus vouchers for Sailboarding equipment.

Those 1890s Mambo shirts should be in a museum Gill Way ahead of their time!

I'd like to second Adam, Dave, Paul and Geoff.

If anyone is interested in joining the committee please let it be known on this thread.
Committee positions are very low stress. We all appreciate whatever anyone can offer. Its better to have a bigger group as more thoughts can be incorporated into the decisions on how to organise our events and the calendar. The new approach to meetings with Skype linkups also means no need for travel and the trend for cake at all meetings results in sugar fuelled decisive decision making.

Also great to see that there could be some windy weather for the weekend at Stanley.
Keep praying to those wind gods.

The wind/tide forecast is looking pretty good so far. Paul T and Geoff will probably have the best advice on what will work and where.

In the unlikely event of little wind, there are a few options:

land sailer time trial/slalom course on the sand at low tide (early afternoon) and/or
longboard teams relay- (BYO preferred rig)

Even if we get a solid freerace event, another fun event like above would be good.

Can people also get numbers to Gillian for pub on Saturday night.

Gulf of Carpenteria or Matsyker Is look very promising. Just letting you know that there is the state surf comp at Marrawah this weekend. The Greens Beach campsite will be a bit full of juvenile's running loose & reckless.

Just getting the info from my sister as they go up there to the comp every year and even my nephew that's 18 won't camp in the Green's Beach campground that weekend. It's probably not surfers in the camp ground at all, it's a bunch of geriatric wave sailors

Can you make a call on the comp today if possible as to whether it will be run or not as the caravan park needs 48 hrs notice of site cancellations so one is not charged. Thanks.

My unofficial guess at this stage is to rig at the caravan park area and hold the freerace from there on Saturday. This would be late morning to early afternoon in an easterly.

Option 2 is to sail later Sunday afternoon at West beach when the westerly is forecast.

Kaz,
I think the original plan was for a wave comp on the Stanley weekend, but that was revised later to be the "Marrawah Cup" in Jan (which was cancelled as an event due to forecast, but morphed into the Merkin Classic as I recall ). The calendar currently shows:

March 2018

Sat 10 FREE RACE 5 (AND PRIZE GIVING NIGHT)
Venue: Stanley

Briefing: Midday, racing no earlier than 1pm
Prize-giving: Venue TBA
Contact: Geoff Cook 0419 583 190 or Ben Wilson 0400 638 795

Sun-Mon 11-12 GPS RACING
Venue: Stanley

Times and location to be advised on seabreeze.com.au
Contact: Geoff Cook 0419 583 190

I spoke to Adam and will be in touch with Cookie.

If there is wind it will run. The forecast has looked reasonable or better for the last few days for 15-20 knots , maybe to 25 knots on the Sunday afternoon - which is also when the high tide will happen.

It is a hard call, but I am keen to see it happen- and there will be at least a few folks there anyway.

Hi Guys...Just spoke to Cookie and had another look at the forecast for the weekend. Saturday arvo is looking like a possible Freerace start out the front of the caravan park if the wind kicks in from the east but it still only looks light at this stage and only just enough. Sunday afternoon looks better with the SW change and there could be 20knts + but it may not kick in until after 2pm. The best option would be West Beach which has shallow water but the runs can be long and a lot of fun in the chop. I think it best to not run a wave comp at Marrawah on such poor a forecast and the lack of swell

Regarding sailing this weekend. Paul and Cookie say it looks pretty promising to run a freerace event. Forecast all this week has been pretty consistent around this too. Sunday late afternoon looks best.

Wave event won't be on unless someone wants to organise it- and swell is apparently non-existent according to Cookie.

As far as the calendar goes, the Marrawah Cup date did go to January, not this weekend. Once the calendar was up, that is the one we were working off (rather than various amended versions that may have been around).
