Ok so we are looking at a new launch spot and possibly a new time if the wind is not there in the morning.

So who can make the call on the cleanest spot to launch?

Sandringham? Hampton? Bonbeach (now that would be a bit of a marathon!)

Rickets is fine.. you only need to go through the reef once!

Spotty text me the details I might come along

Yeah, this is making some more sense now...... good points.

Also, not sure on numbers for the morning session?

Sandringham as a shaken down effort, then Parkdale for the real deal?

The final event may be from Hampton to StKilda.

Looks windy all day to me Sunday.

KV Lets keep to the plan and meet as discussed. If its not going to happen by noon then you can take off. I may stick around another hour or so after that.

So where are we all Launching from...?

Still Ricketts??? Sandringham???

I dont care really, happy to go with the flow and sail where everyone else is. I'm just keen for a sail on the bay and some nice loooong runs.

Someone suggested that whoever gets to St kilda first, jibe and double back and do a sweep for stragglers (given that they are obviously the most competant sailor).

In lieu of any safety craft this would make some sense.

Thoughts?

Joel, when you are extracting sea urchin spikes from your long slalom fin I will say I told you so.!!!
Ricketts is fine for me as I know every rock, and as far as this Sunday goes no probs as there won't be too many boards. My concern is for the event, if we get 25-30 windsurfers and the same amount of kites all adrenelin pumped and trying to sqeeze through around the Northern reef marker it will be messy and people are going to eat rock.
My 2c and I don't care either way, I,ll start anywhere.

I am in with you and Spotti Sunday arvo, last time I raced you I smashed 2 ribs!!!!

Go for it guys, start from Ricketts, it doesn't bother me just thought I'd put it out there for the less experienced like myself.

Lol - look at us all trying to make a decision haha.

Well, since its low tide and I'll no doubt be using a 42cm fin.... be thinking Hampton like Stephen suggested.... but am a morning run person.... so might not even be wind.... but if there is, I'm at Hampton so come join me if any one wants the AM session....

So speaking with a few people and taking into account the reef and rigging area etc.... Looks like the best and most favorable spot to launch will be Hampton.

If you want to sail out of rickets then suit yourself, but lets all meet at hampton and launch out of there if we can.

AM Starters: Meet at Hampton at 11AM and if there is enough wind we launch before noon. Otherwise we go for a bite at SBHQ cafe and kill some time waiting for the wind and maybe start with the PM crew.

PM starters: Meet at 2PM at Hampton and Launch before 3PM.

Sound reasonable?

Thought of a few extra tips that some might find useful...

- If the run is actually downwind, you *dont* want a big fin. Given that you will be on the same tack for some distance, you will get "back leg burn" -> a big fin exacerbates the problem...

- Again, if the run is downwind, you will have less apparent wind over your sail (ie: this happens in speedsailing and formula racing) -> you will want a bigger sail than you would normally use for those conditions, say the next size up.

- Board choice is more or less whatever you normally use, ie: if its blowing 25kn and you would normally use an 80l, then don't use a bigger board... you probably wont be used to sailing long distances with oversized gear.

As with all tips/suggestions, take them with a grain of salt... if you aren't comfortable with a bigger sail, then just use whatever you would normally use.

Great to see there is so much interest!

We will also come down for a blast this Sunday (if we get away from the Christmas craziness in Store) and we'll make sure there are plenty of beers waiting for all the crew that make it down to The ZU !

Please make sure you take care of any safety issues, this is not a organised event. When we run the race there will be 5 or more safety craft and a pick up service if you get stranded, this won't be the case on Sunday, so look after your buddies!

Have fun and be Safe !

Forecast is looking good for an AM launch may have a couple of seats spare for the trip back to Hampton.

Ok, so the launch is from Hampton.

I will be there at 10am to 10.15 give me a garbage bag with your change of clothes and a towel. I will run it up to StKilda with the car. I will be back at Hampton for the launch between 11 and noon.

See you there tomorrow!

BOM is saying 20-25kts in the AM SW. Which is perfect.

No point of waiting for the PM. He who procrastinates masterbates.
