I bought the 880 and have just one prone session in conditions too big, steep and walled up for my pay grade. I managed to get a couple of waves and instantly felt the pumping improvement over the MA foils. I was on my bigger board, 795 mast and wearing 5 mm rubber from head to toe and still had no problem pumping out to the next close out. Less than a minute on foil and I'm so convinced these foils are it that I ordered the 680.

I been riding the Ha1150 for a while now. I like the speed and glide. Thinking of moving to the MA 1225 or the new HA's, Mostly wing, 90KG. What would you guys suggest?

Assuming you mean HA1125 is what you've been riding? I'd recommend against the MA1225 unless turning is what you're optimizing for. It glides OK, pumps ok, turns quite well, but can be pushed to pretty high speeds on a wave or under wing power. Don't get me wrong; the 1225 is a great foil but a super efficient glider it isn't. I've yet to ride one of the new HAs but from what I gather you could go to either a 980 or 1080 depending on which end of the range you're interested in that's comparable to the 1125.

I winged the 1180 yesterday in flat water after riding the MA1225 90% of the time, the 1180 has bit more speed, turns great and glide is next level, I couldn't get it to breach. I have also used it in the surf 3times pumps so well and you can catch below knee high waves, I am new to surf foiling and cannot link waves which is my aim. I am 95-98kgs and only wing wave's yesterday was an exception would recommend the 1180 or 1080 with your weight

Thx guys, guess I'll see if I can demo the new HA. I've never had any issues turning the HA 1125, so improving turning isn't on the top of the list for me. More guide and stability at speed would be nice. For some reason, when I go really fast on the 1125, it does these quick up and downs. (HA1125, 190 tail blue shim, 85 mast 60 fuze). Hopefully the new HA's doesn't do that.

you are referring to pitch stability.

Read the detailed reviews on facebook / insta (there are many now) and pitch stability is one of the main improvements apart from stall speed.

you won't get much info on here it seems.

For example one of hundreds of review feedbacks .

"This is great, interesting comparisons. demoed new 880 yesterday and ordered one immediately! Not quite as fast as the MA1000 but the most forgiving foil I have used. (Not to critical on pitch angle like the MAs) Amazing glide and low end stall speed, super responsive to turn, real pressure pumping, basically as advertised! "

"REVIEW of the new HA Foils

Aloha crew here is unbiased review of the new 680 HA and 880

Hybrid HA foils are the future of foiling across all disciplines.

The anticipated HA range is finally here, I had met up with army and Oskar and Jeremy in maui for some testing and feed back on these new ha foils and rode various protos. I had sworn an oath to keep my lips sealed, until now.

I rode the 880 ha in maui was amazed how well it turned and rolled for its wing span, but more so how well it stayed on foil at low speed, it has a big range of low n top speed. Army has been working hard on foil sections to give a wide range of top speed and low speed forgiveness in a smaller cm2 package. Let's be real, the more cm2 we use the slower it will be due to the surface drag. How to get less cm2 and acts like a bigger foil? Foil sections is a scientific art.

Maneuverability:
this feels more surfy then any other ha I have ridden from other brands, it almost felt like it was reading my mind as I think turn it did does it so fluid there is no hesitation in roll and the pitch sensitivity is more stable then the original HA.

Pitch:
The pitch is very smooth and predictable even on the small 680 ha I don't have any sudden drops in cabin pressure. big surf and high speed is where I get most my turbulence and didn't have to stay on my toes on the drop or bottom turns on over head surf, it just felt intuitive and very controlled. For intermediate riders this is a welcome character and all levels alike.

Speed:
I found the 680 ha to handle over head waves and no problem holding it down. When I used the pump 202 stab in over head surf on the 680 I had to be more alert drawing my bottom turn. the top speed to me was higher then 725 on 680.
Drop outs don't happen unless your way off in mast position in your tracks. how I test drop out speeds is by pulling out of a wave and glide till I drop, the 680 ha with surf 205 red shim just flows till speed runs to 0 with out the drop, it has a sustain glide with no sudden stall outs at 85 kilos.

Stabilizers:
Wow this where the ha really shine! 680 HA feel great on any stabilizer I tried. 205 surf, 220 glide, pump 202, dart 140. Don't sleep on mixing up stabilizers.

The 220 glide red shim turn my 680 into 925-1125 combo for endless speed glides, but what blew me away was how well it surfed and is one of my favorites for small surf, down wind combos. The rail to rail roll was so graceful, sharp and balanced vs the jet fighter aggressive 205 surf when I need to go to war.

Pump 202 is a absolute skate board on the 680 giving so much support and lift in your turns from knee high all the way to head high, I had so much lift even with red shim I had to set all the way back in the tracks to 1! It's a slower stab so shim with red and it loves the pocket and some momentum generated from skating rail to rail or steeper waves. The turns on the 205 pump is sharp and predictable.

205 surf is a jet fighter on the 680. Rail to rail surfing and speed with red shim or no shim or blue. like the pump 202 this was made for surfing the pocket or just giving those great carves we all crave or sharp bottom turn lip kisses.

The dart 140 is an elite stealth fighter popular amongst the team and for good reason, it loosens any set up to bring out the performance and speed across the board. I been riding these types of small, stabilizers with George foster over the years and knew I was riding the future, fast forward to here and now and stabilizers are the biggest affordable way to squeeze out the character you wish to play on any given discipline. Don't sleep on stabilizers.

This HA range is for everyone of all levels. Go bigger if your a beginner, go smaller if intermediate, these do run smaller then original ha so 880 is like 925-680 is like 725 etc.

The future of HA foils is a blend of what we want, what we know and what we discover along the way to raise the evolution of design and performance.

These HA foils are definitely at the forefront of user friendly high performance and foil section technology that will surely leave a grin on your face as it did mine.

This is truly unbiased review even as a team rider, I have bitten my tongue in the past, as I am man of speaking my truth, unlike main stream media I do my reporting based on my findings and covey it best to my knowledge."

Thanks for the detailed review! Which stabilizer do you recommend to start with (especially for 880 and 1180, wingding)? I thought of Speed 180 for the 880 and 220 Glide for 1180. Better with 205 Surf?

Nice, an unbiased review from an Armstrong team rider.

You're a great salesman Eppo? ??

Armstrong might finally have a foil that is competitive with the best brands for surfing but it will be hard to determine in amongst the static created by the Armstrong fanatics who have lost their credibility too many times.

I have heard great things about the new ha's for a few months. Would be good to get some genuine feedback from someone who has surfed the fone eagles whose sizes and aspects are almost exactly the same as the armstrong ha's.

Yeah, Armie gear has always been so heavily hyped and so under delivered it would be hard to ever trust. Also, I got burned once I'll never touch Armie again.

Marco, I am no expert, I have been using the 205 stab, 965 performance mast, was out in decent size swell yesterday arvo and it performed really well. I have too much gear so will offload the MA1000.

you are referring to pitch stability.

This is truly unbiased review even as a team rider, I have bitten my tongue in the past, as I am man of speaking my truth, unlike main stream media I do my reporting based on my findings and covey it best to my knowledge."

.. so if seabreeze is where you get info i'd broaden your search vectors lol

Thats a shame you feel that way, hopefully people that are in the same boat can one day give the new gear a try as now the HA range connected to what is the BEST mast on the market is a killer set up !!!

It's called MARKETING ! By the way, every brand does it .... you might have yet to notice.

I have ridden a few foil brands, and all had their issues or what you call get burned.

Thx guys, guess I'll see if I can demo the new HA. I've never had any issues turning the HA 1125, so improving turning isn't on the top of the list for me. i'm no salesman lol. The first review was no
team riders. There are literally hundreds of diff reviews from non team riders if you choose to venture past this tiny stable of ideas.

But the echo chamber on this limited forum is officially deafening lol. Kind of like the piss ant market share we bring to the table - hence no one really cares what we have to say.

"Under delivered" ... agreed on the surf side of things. But not in the other disciplines.

Don't worry, even as armie riders we shared your frustration - probably more so. We all just got busy getting as good as we could using those hard to use HAs in the surf. Mas are sick to tow and wing!!

Luckily osker and the other surf based riders got hold of this new HA design and the wingers, towers and flat water junkies were told to "get out of the kitchen" by the new CEO Nathan Tuke (switched on dude).

and it shows.

Thanks for the detailed review! Which stabilizer do you recommend to start with (especially for 880 and 1180, wingding)? I thought of Speed 180 for the 880 and 220 Glide for 1180. Better with 205 Surf?

most the team riders use the 180 speed or 140 dart. 220 be useful on lighter days maybe.

so the 880 is kind of equivalent to MA1000? or more the 980 to the 1000? I looking to add it to my range but will definitely keep my MA's

What tail did u used?

880 yeh more like the 925/1000 for normal/ heavier guys. But if ya lighter or can rip they are saying crew are using the 680/780.

980 .. sits kind of between the 925/1125

. from what i've read / heard on facebook, instagram, youtube and other places.

Code foils believe the hype.

Not long ago Go foil was the ultimate on here.

or

How good is the north .. fill in the blank lol.

That all been said I do understand the frustration expressed here - i'm not naive - and have spent many times swearing loudly at no one in the middle of the ocean somewhere.

but

That doesn't mean these new HAs on the new mast won't rip as hard or harder than any other setup. who knows - have a go.

My entire quiver of foils is the MA1000. Mostly winging. When tow foiling we use a friends 950 (Lancelin)
If you have a moment Andy could you expand on the differences between the MA1000 and the new HA880?
e.g.
Take off speed.
Low end stall
Turn comparison
Pump/Glide or glide out of a turn
How well does it handle chop.
How well does it handle speed and a speed comparison
What weight are you for reference?

Apologies for all the questions but I am sure there are a number of us here keen to hear the feed back on some of the above.
Thanks in advance

SUP down winding on the MA1000? Not what I would try to do. Definitely be looking for a different foil for that discipline.
I mostly wing surf so interested in what the 880 can bring to the table.

So the 880 is good for SUP down wind.. Good to know. It starts to give us some sort of range capability of the foil. Obviously has easier/better pump and glide than the 1000.

Keep the reports coming in frothers !!!

you won't beat the Ma for wave winging - from any brand for that matter.. in the pocket at speed - Ma all the way. it was just such a disappointment as a surf / Sup wing if pump and link was your game.

The HA is built around prone surfing first and foremost. It will make a very decent DW wing run for pump, glide and connect. It happens to be a great DW Sup foil for surfy type swell wave riding. For winging waves you want something like the 680 not the 880.

PaulM..
Take off speed- Much lower than MA1000, 880 bucked me off a couple of times initially but just needed a bit more foot pressure, I am still struggling a bit if I start on goofy (normal for me is natural) because their is so much lift, the take off speed is so low it was a bit of handful in the 30kt wind yesterday late in the afternoon yesterday (Yes, I will try moving my mast back a bit next time, was at 6.5 on 50L FG).
Low end stall - no frustrating drop off like I have experienced on the MA, that's during a tow session and winging (ask fiddo about it) .
Turn comparison - for me it felt much better but this may be because i felt more confident although those with me, begrudgingly, said I looked better
Pump/Glide or glide out of a turn - both better and easier due to the lower stall speed
How well does it handle chop. - As MA
How well does it handle speed and a speed comparison - I did feel it may not be as fast on wing in a straight line as the 1000 but that does not make sense, at no time did it feel out completely of control even hammering straight down a wave, i was amazed I did not breach 20 feet in the air and believe me I have breached a lot in the last 2 years although the MA's helped reduce this.
What weight are you for reference? - 80Kg although I should be 75Kg .

I was using 180 with red shim towing and 205 with red shim winging, i think the 880 is awesome!!!

I am a novice (kook with the nickname of breacher) so please do not make any purchasing decisions based on my comments

I cannot wait for the 780/680 then my MA800 will probably be for sale.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to the questions, great report Andy.

Sounds like you are enjoying the 880 Andy and it is making a difference to your foiling abilities. I look forward to trying it out, soon I hope. It sounds like it is more stable in pitch as advertised. Being the fastest foil is not something I am worried about but it does need to keep up with the wave and accelerate reasonably quick. I enjoy the MA1000 and really like the turn capabilities so that is important to me. Being able to turn with confidence and a sure footedness is definitely what I am always after. Plus that little bit more glide.

The 680 could be on my list Eppo, for exactly as you say. Wing surf capability. Initially from just reading the hype I was thinking the 780. I am just trying to feel out where each of these new foils sits given my 83kg ( should be 76 ) and matching my abilities to the right foil for what I like to do.
