Hi Taavi, I agree with the proper pumping techique you posted and I do pump in such way.... But this is not the relevant point here.

Regardless of how well a rider pumps, a long&narrow board keeps the speed way better than a short&wide board. The seconds tends to deaccelerate more because it has more drag.

Hmm, @FranP, at least I don't feel the board noticeably slowing down while extending my arms and preparing for the next pump. Pumping is much more nuanced, it's not just moving your hands, it's more like a whole body thing. Even with quite a bit smaller boards I don't feel that slowing down that you describe. Because while extending your arms you drive the board forward with your legs.

Here's an example with a -10 L board.

we are talking very low wind I think. When it's almost not possible to take off...while with a dw board...the board will keep the momentum. BTW, it's not all wing that needs the same pumping techniques.

@NordRoi, in very light wind you just need more volume, and a wide board would keep the momentum just fine.

Could somebody add more examples of concrete boards of any kind which they've confirmed they take off earlier than others?

Most people agree that a DW-style board or mid-length narrow board is better at take-off than a board that looks like a door.

Wtih the same foil and hand wing, when a short board may need a full body advanced pumping to get up (see Taavi's textbook pump technic above). With a DW boardm you may only need a sloppy wing-only pump to get up.

Try one if you are not convinced.

I've seen cement sailboats but never a concrete board. High marks for durability.
