I tried my brandnew HD GoPro today with a 16Gb Lexar card and I have lots of trouble with accessing and transferring files. Guess I'll need to try one of the recommended cards. Where can I get a (cheap) Kingston card in Perth ?
Thank's BOB
Have a look at the facebook link (Mike P)
Video that works but you will have to convert the MP4 to AVI files

Hope this is OK BoB and Helps
Hi Bob,
Having had the Hero wide for 9 months the HD was a must. I have had it about a month now.
I have had no problems with an Adata 32GB turbo class 6 SDHC card on all the settings. The FB Gopro page has been a very useful info source also.
I also use Adobe Premier Elements 4 to edit which came bundled on my Sony. It takes the mp4 files directly without conversion. I too have not figured out why I can playback the raw video(mp4) data perfectly in a video player such as VLC but it is jerky as soon as I put it in Elements when editing. I did change the preferences in Elements to an HD 720 setting, it is better but not perfect so if anyone out there etc etc.
Eureka video software that works with the HD running Vista
Cyber Link Power Director Ultra V8
This was taken on the wide angle older model at the European Speed Championships Dungarvan, Ireland Rider Dave Williams The Accident was 2 days before setting the fastest speed 44.19 knots this was edited with Power Director V5
I have been using a MAXFLASH SD 6 HC 16GB card and have 100% results!! just got to the bottom of the condensation thing and all is good , quality of reproduction is unreal!!!!
here is some freestyle windsurfing shot at Pelican Point (Perth - WA) - using the cam in 720p / 60 fps mode - no fancy mounts this time - just using it as a point and shoot.http://exposureroom.com/e4794f6e935f4ea382d0e5e163f38178/
apparently I need to send mine back to gopro in California.
It will occasionally record video up to about 3 mins then stop. I have tried formating the kingston card 16gb in 64kb, 32 kn and 8958k or whatever.
Still no luck. Takes great photos thou. Really makes you a super hero ay!
Really like the thing thou so hopefully they'll send me another one that works. Sh1t happens.
Anyone got any ideas on formating the cards? Any tricks before I send it off?
I had the same problem with a 4Gb Kingston card. This card works fine the the original GoPro wide.
Sandisk 16Gb Class 4 card works a treat
My kids (count me in here) like playing in the sea...
To not miss it all I bought an Olympus 1030 sw.
(10metres depth rated - will damage your toe before it stops working if you drop it etc -) their TOUGH model. but $500+ it & its cousin are dead in a year (more in section at end).
So GoPro looks tough - sounds tough - how does it work in action ??....
The big problem I found for water based action shots was getting close enough as the zoom on the Olympus is not upto much. I took all the photos manually and when not in use had camera tucked into top of wettie to leave my hands free.
- I have not read of focus option with GoPro - Does it??
- At what sort of distance can you get a good shot - say of my kid surfing a wave? As a reference would 30m be too far for good definition / facial expression?
- Is it fiddly to grab and shoot (i.e. to catch an action shot)? -- or is it mostly intended to be attached to something and used in set & forget mode (video or timed shots)?
- Does the basic case offer waterproofing too or does this come with the polycarbonate...outer case?
Any in-use comments appreciated...
Thanks (& top of the N/Year 2 Uall
History of meu1030 SW tough chunk of junk.
First one battery leaked - but until then took great pic's (2-3 months)
(by this I mean for a basic lense (-ve) with 10Mpix sensor (+ve) approx 1 in 3-4 were ok).
Warranty replaced this - Replacement one has been average from day 1 - poorer lense setup / focus / sensor calibration(??) not sure - but lower quality piks. About 6 -7 mths old started glitching and now in under a year - it is dead (seals failed - I assume as piks appeared misty(!!) - then battery release didn't - and finally signs of corrosion on memory card connector ).
This style of camera is a great idea but not really intended for 90+ % use in the beach / surf zone - despite spending all its "wet time" behind my shoulder under my wetsuit (i.e. protected) when not in-use.
So around $500/year for water based snaps.(Jan not happy ).. A GoPro must be tougher???
Hi Rick,
The GoPro doesn't zoom, it's very wide angle and fixed, someone 30M away would be too far away.
Not designed to grab and shoot, as you said mount and shoot.
They use an outer case, waterproof to 60M for the Hi Deff version and 30M for the S Deff. gopro.com/en/au/
Maybe a Canon P&S with a Canon waterproof housing ? I have a very old 2M Olympus like this and use for free diving.
Or as I also have, a cheap 12x zoom Panasonic or equivalent, not perfect but zooms to the 35mm equivalent of 420mm, don't have to go near the water.
No wind here so I lost interest and the camera's been gathering dust
This is what works for me, I import the GoPro MPEG-4 file into MPEG Streamclip (free) and output it as a MPEG-4 file using H.264 compression and unscaled 1280x720. This file will then open in VideoStudio with no problems. Now I don't really know what I'm doing but it works I persisted with videostudeo because that's what I'm used to, the others either wouldn't accept the file or didn't like working with it but I didn't trial pro software. My test video's have just been the camera sitting on a table but as soon as there is wind I'll have a proper go.
Chipmunk thanks the GoPro FB is very interesting.
Hey Scope I've checked a few of your You Tube vids, well done.
And Matt great PP vid, I'm looking forward to trying the slo mo.
Cheers Bob.
Hi Guys, I tried my Gopro for the first time and I am having problems with the 720/60 mode. It seems that I have the same problem as many others have with the memory card. I choosed a class 6 highspeed sdhc from HAMA to be on the save side but it is only recording 50mb in 720/60 then it stops.
Which cards are save? I just want to be sure when I go to buy one that it really works fine in 720/60.
Good wind to you all!
Roberta
Hi all I have been using a 16gb Sandick extreme with my gopro and have had no dramas with it, all my shooting has been done in 1080p mode
For editing i use Premiere elements 8, it is slow and difficult to use, i also found a nice cheap downloadable program called avs video editor which does most things elements does only faster
www.avs4you.com/
the attatched video is only a 150mb wmv file, when i encoded it to 600mb avi it looked a lot better
Hello everybody,
Transcend 8Gb and 32Gb class 6 don't work with my new HD Hero. Damn, I bought the latter right for the GoPro since I knew nothing about these compatibility issues. Hope that a firmware update will fix this problem soon. Transcend cards are among the best ...
In the meanwhile I'm using a brand X SDHC 8Gb card class 4 that works damn fine. I took the very first video with the GoPro HD on last Sunday and published it on our Italian SUP Portal.
Check it out at the following address:
Hi Guys,
My Gopro is now working fine after I invested another 29 Dollars in a Skandisk Extreme II 4gb. Gopro has answered also to my email and said that they use kinston and that you should stick to brand sd cards class 4 (mine was a Hama class 6 but, whatever)
Good wind!
Roberta
Firie, I had not read this threead before, now I see the problems you have had with the gopro I realise how satisfying the vid you posted on the Futura must be. Glad to see you have finally got it working well.
Everything you said is right and good advise But that link is to an Assie ebayer in NSW with 99.9 positive feedback and who I got my card from which is working a dream Having said that if anyone is ordering a new HD GoPro they can now also supply cards, too easy
Cheers for that Firiebob! I admit I didn't follow the link. I have got some genuine cards on ebay - as I said, reputable Aussie shops for me.
Still, check the reasons for the 0.1% negative feedback too - most bogus stores still have high feedback ratings because of most punters being unaware before posting feedback that the cards are fake / smaller capacity / don't work.
If you want a store with people and a front, try austin.net.au and netplus.com.au to name a couple in Perth. You may get some good deals. I'm picking up a 16GB Kingston Class 4 for $45 today - it is the same card sold via the gopro.com website so I'm assuming it'll work. (If not, you'll hear back from me!!)
Have fun people and I look forward to more footage out on the water!!
Hi Fooosh, I have the 16GB Kingston Class 4 and it works a treat so you'll good your's is cheaper
I posted somewhere else that I converted a file down to DVD quality and burnt to a disc to see how it would look, looks awesome on the big screen
first attempt with the GoProHD i accidently knocked the camera with my sail and it was pointing abit too high but gave me a chance to play around with Roxio creator 2010,Firie right at the end is how a jibe should be performed(21.79Alpha in bugger all wind)
setting 720p
2 gig Kinston card...my 8 g card was a dud so they are sending another one.
i haven't read the full thread, but;
any chance you guys are using class 2 memory cards? Class 2 cards are cheeeeap, so if you got a card at what seems like a bargain price that might be what you got. I think they might be on the threshold of being too slow for the gopros h264 transfer rate. Class 6 cards would be no probs
any chance you guys are using cards formatted with Fat32 filesystem? if you are not already aware, it has a 4gig filesize limit
does the gopro HD support EXT2, EXT3, NTFS or HFS+ ? If so it might be worth trying this instead to get around the 4gig limit
