Pweedas you make it clear where you stand on science.
Where do you stand on spiritual matters?
If something can't be proved by science does it cease to exist?
There are a few billion people out there that will tell you otherwise.....

Regarding water powered cars, there is a big movement of people all trying this.

Google "Joe Cell" and you'll find many, many hits. Unfortunately I think the original "Joe" was a bit of a nutter, but he did attract a cult-type following. I've never built a joe cell so can't comment on whether or not it works, but it smells fishy to me.
Most of the people involved don't have a basic grasp of physics or chemistry, which is obvious when you read their explanations.

Of course, the solution to all our energy problems is currently being built in China:

Unfortunately little johnny declined their offer of shares in the venture a couple of years ago.

Also when it, and others like it, come online for real, we won't have the hydrogen infrastructure ready to replace oil in our transportation systems. But it will happen eventually... I hope.

If something can't be proved by science then it becomes a just a belief in someones head, and there is nothing at all wrong with that.
You can believe in Santa Claus but that doesn't make him real. But it also doesn't make the believers dangerous.
I have spiritual beliefs myself that can't be proved by science.
For that reason I don't try to force anyone to comply with my belief. If they are interested then I tell them. If they are not, then I don't.
Simple as that.

The obscenity starts when someone has a belief in their head and decides that if others don't subscribe to the same belief then they deserve to die.
Do you see how totally ridiculous this is?

Someone considers that the way a few neurons fire in their head, (and that's all belief is) justifies eliminating anyone who doesn't make the neurons in their brain fire the same way.

Unbelievable and extremely sad, that the pinacle of the evolutionary process has resulted in this.

I have been watching this for a while and am a long way short of convinced. There are a few clips on Utube showing it working but it looks like simple electrolysis to me. But since they a a bit short on details and explanations then it's hard to say for sure that it all just cobblers. But it does smell fishy so it probably is.
That's no reason to stop playing with it though so long as they don't want to take your money for it.

The ITER reactor being built by a co op of many mostly western countries, is way ahead of this. More than just produce a plasma in a magnetic containment, they have got significant power gains (i.e. more energy out than they put in) but only for very short times. I seem to recall the output was in the megawatt range so it's quite significant.
The one they are working on now is hoped to produce about 300 to 500 megawatts, which is equivalent to a large conventional power station.
The problem will still be to make the output continuous.
More recently, the USA which was going to contribute 15 billion dollars to the project has cut that back a little bit, to 15 million.

I think this is incredibly short sighted considering the huge benefit of the technology if it is successful. I know 15 billion sounds a lot, but when you consider that they spent about 600 billion in Iraq for a very dubious long term benefit then compared to this 15 billion would be chicken feed.
Take it out of the Iraq budget. It's so huge noone will notice the difference.

I guess we can't be too critical though because Australia is contributiong the princely sum of $0.00 to the project.

It is impossible to prove Santa Claus (Jesus for kids). There are a few billion kids who'd tell you otherwise anyway.

Do you have a soul? Do you earn a soul? Is there a god/s? We've been asking these questions for thousands and thousands of years and you know how far we've gotten? We're still asking the same questions and having the same debates.

Anyway it's not important. Be good, find love, be good to others, you'll be happy this way, what else do you need? If you've found god or whatever, science even, what else do you need? Isn't that enough for you?

All this clinging to an idea or a belief or a culture makes a division between you and those who think otherwise. This is the root cause of the human condition. We are all basically the same.

This whole fluoride thread was started because Samb0 inherently knows we are the same and wanted to warn us, even though we disagree on the dangers.

I can debunk it on the same basis that others try to debunk things that I believe. And some do try. If they put up a convincing argument then I modify my belief to accomodate the information presented.
For those who remain in disagreement with my belief, I don't shoot them, I don't bomb them and I certainly don't fly a whole lot of people who aren't involved in the discussion into a building just to make a point.

I would expect the same courtesy from anyone whose theory or belief I disagree with.

Good point.
I persisted with the conspiracy thing because the heading for the thread was "P O I S O N ! "
And I really think the conspiracy rubbish that Hairy kept harping on was just that. POISON!
It deflected blame away from the area where it so rightly belonged to an area where it didn't belong.
And I am no appologist for the USA. I think they have made some huge stuff ups over the last 5 decades, including their lastest foray into Iraq.
But they are human and that's what humans are good at. Stuff ups.

Criticise them for their genuine stuff ups rather than invent ones for yourselves.

Given the power that they wield and comparing them to the way others have handled very much less power I think they do a half decent job.

How much better off do you think we would be if this power was in the hands of Hitler, Stalin, Idi Armin, Robert Mugabe, Pinochet, .... In fact, pick almost anyone.

Spiritualism (and I say it with unsupportable confidence) is just heurism gone crazy. Its f..n crap.

Stribo - "If something can't be proved by science does it cease to exist?"

Pweedas - "Someone considers that the way a few neurons fire in their head, (and that's all belief is) justifies eliminating anyone who doesn't make the neurons in their brain fire the same way."
Your'e confusing the expression with the means. Its like saying Shakespear's writings are an assembly of letters. It's true but hardly relevant. Concordant beliefs are not necessarily (in fact almost absolutely are not) a case of corresponding neurons firing.

That's a nice idea and on the face of it, thoroughly plausible. What happens when you get an established secure wealthy civil society? (apart from a war). You go exploring amongst other things. I suppose they would have travelled via the Red Sea across the top of the Indian ocean and down through Indonesia. They'd be locked up if they did it today, but those were more liberal times. The story you pointed me to said they travelled West. That seems unlikely because they would have to get past the Americas and the vast extent of the Pacific. The other way seem more plausible. But maybe they weren't talking about that.

Have you read 1421 - Gavin Menzies' thesis about the early Chinese explorations of that year including a visit to Australia - amazing thoroughly plausible stuff.

Of course 1500 BC wins for oldness. I wonder if it would be possible to detect dna traces of ancient gypos in modern aboriginals. After all they say they know for sure there are no traces of Neanderthal genes in modern human beings. If they can do that then maybe its possible.

www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/

Will trace your DNA as back as far as possible. You get a really good DVD too which explains, amongst other things, that the Aboriginals were from the first break-away group out of Africa. They came directly to Australia. Everyone else is related via central Asia then Europe or North Asia -> Americas etc. The Aborigines are not. Africa -> Australia, that's it. Totally unique. Bit of a mystery how they got here (which they solve in the DVD).

The other way cool thing on the DVD is they find the first tribe. THE ancestors of us all. It's amazing. You can see a part of every race in their faces.

Makes a great present.

Right! Got my dictionary now. Just nipped out and bought one..
The really big ones were quite expensive so I got a sort of condensed version. It's got a really nice picture on the cover of some surfer dude on a nice wave.
"Surfers Dictionary" it says.

Let me see now, A,.. B,... C,
Hmm here we are.H,..... ummmmmm
"Hueyism" That looks close enough.
"Belief in a god of waves, wind and water. "

Ooohh look. It also explains it's origins.
"Probably originated in the mid 20th century when small numbers of 'surferdudes' gathered in beachside dwellings drinking large quantities of beer while waiting for waves. At regular intervals someone would hang their head out the window and call "HUUUUUUEEEY!"
When the waves eventually came, the arrival was attributed to this 'act of worship' thus resulting in the current religious following"

NotWal? Wot on earth has that got to do with the discussion?

I think i'm losing faith in this dictionary that I just bought to look up NotWals big words.

Look at this,

"wicked, something really good. fully sick"

"sick, something really good. totally filth"

"filth, something really good. totally awsome"

"awsome, something really good. wicked"

Now I'm starting to doubt the definition of 'Hueyism'
