I'd rather get my head bashed in falling off waves somewhere unpopular than take my chances with the crowd in Cotton Tree. The tidal currents are crap, the car parks full, the rage is obviously in full swing and its a tiny workable area for the number of people in there. Gives me the same sort of feeling as going shopping with the missus at Christmas time.
Too much rage and bashing up beach goers with kites though and the man will extend the "bathing reserve" all the way from Mooloolaba to North Shore.. that'll suck for everyone.
I kite uncrowded conditions all year round, so cotton tree is good change to mix it up with a different riding crew. Average age at my local is like 55, so its refreshing to see people younger than myself slash up in the waves.
The carpark hostility sucks though...
Not that crowded if u pick it right. Had 4 hours out there this morning all by myself!! People always have something to winge about, get over it people!!!
Been kiting cottontree for about 5 years now and have never had an issue with local kiters, visiting kiters or parking my car so you must have been really unlucky. Why waste time taking photos and posting them there are better ways to spend your time
You must have got him on a one off bad day , this guy goes out of his way for a lot of people at cotton tree , rescuing , landing and a sharer , we all have **** days . But he doesn't teach down there with BWS wrong guy and he never prances around like he owns the place , and is definitely one of the more experienced kiters there , any noob in the area kiting the hazardous river would be stoked this guy was there and capable of a rescue . As for the car park , bloody camp ground campers with 2 cars wrecks cotton tree carpark in summertime , tempers do get a bit hot when you can't kite your spot , that you kite all year round . My 2 cents
This topic may have gotten out of hand, obviously a bad temper weekend for all involved.
Comments were not made to inflame or shame, simply a reminder that we all share the beaches with noobs, swimmers, spectators, carpark users, and so on.
May this be a reminder for everyone to stay cool and enjoy the Paradise we live in.
my 17,5 cents
PS: no more DM, I may start thinking I am a greeny-fun-loving-tree-hugger. Not that I have anything against any of them greeny-fun-loving-tree-hugger-yoga-meditating-peace-whale-saving-pacifists . But I do support any whale / animal saving ventures and endeavors - this is my planet and I care for it as part of me.
Oh darn, didn't I just say no DM??

Great wind there yesterday , and even more enjoyable was watching the young guy strapless on the 8m reo destro the waves strapless ,I am a hardened old strapped surfboard rider , he showed all of us there how fluid an unstrapped rider can be , he was actually surfing with flow . Very impressive and a view of what's coming from this new breed . Yeeeewwwww
It was nice kiting , I was the old guy on the black griffin kite with red board . Thanks for the lesson in unstrapped awesome.
Hahaha, you were killing it too.
Same with the fella on the green Peter Griffin kite, I saw him do some loose backside turns.
Do it all again today, my body is killing though.........
