i got a good tip for go pros - fogging makes em look sooo crap - give the screen a big slow lick just before you shoot if you dunked it in the water - can work a treat.. - warms up the out surface so temp difference isnt so much

only got 2 things to add.
1. Mounts. There are heaps available for the GoPro, very few for any other "action cam"
2. Bullet style models are a pain the the @rse to mount.

2 is wrong except for strut mount and maybe board mount. Line mount from camrig is actually more stable for Contour than gopro...

Or any non horizontal surface you have to mount on. I take it from your "except" you have proven my point exactly.

Contour has curved and flexible mounts. Good on helmets. Better than the stock GoPro mounts...

You're not right with point 1 either - aftermarket mounts (like line mounts from stringy) focus on the GP and Contour, but most manufacturers cover the basics well enough... and cameras like the Adixxion use the ubiquitous standard camera screw mount.

That won't fix it, and that's the worst thing about GoPro especially and cameras that need a case in general.

Just got a GoPro3 for my birthday. Wondering if anyone has attached the wifi remote control to the bar? Seems like it would be a good place for it - it's no bigger than a car door remote... I've seen them attached to motorcycle handlebars, wonder if the mount for that would fit...

Turn it on and record, then forget about it and enjoy your session. View it on FF on the computer if you want to edit, and write down the time stamp when something interesting happens...

Turning it on and leaving it on is what makes them heat up/fog up so much, switch it off occasionally when heading back out and tacking back upwind so it cools down and you won't have much in the way of fogging issues.

Also if you if you put some anti fog inserts in the case then hold the camera with the case open in front of an airconditioner (dry air) before closing it you shouldn't have any fog issues.

I've tried pretty much every trick in the book. The camera heating up is the catalyst but the cause is air in the case; different dew points or some such. Cases will always have that problem.

The ROAM2 is an excellent camera, shame Contour went under.

I have had my go pro hero 3+ black edition for a year or so and recorded about 20 sessions and I have never experienced fogging... But...It's a bitch when there is water droplets on the casing lens area!!!

Lot of people say the same thing, and then a lot of people have problems... local conditions have a lot to do with it, I reckon. Winter is less of an issue here as it's dry; summer is humid as hell.

It actually did fix it - i was fiiming 2 weeks ago and as soon as i licked the screen - the picture is back to being unfogged - i got the footy somewhere.. licking the gopro screen is pretty big in the surfing selfie world!

i think i heard of stuffing nappy material in anywhere it will fit, putting in fridge prior to session - longer with no fogging

nothing sux more than 1080p of your most epic session looking like it was filmed on a toaster in 1995!

Condensation on the outside - or more likely, water drops or film - isn't fogging inside the case licking is like Rain-X on the outside, and yes I've tried that and Fog-X inside too.

Anyone try SJ4000?
It cost me only NT$2,500.
Less than US$100.
The quality is good enough for its price.

There are lots of reviews of the SJ4000 to be found, even though they go down to about AUS$73 they seem to have a rather dark pikture, and no 60fps, they just double up 30fps.
Maybe a great second camera, it uses the same attachments as the GOPRO, but not the same chip sets and image sensor, you can use all the bits that come with the camera on a GOPRO.
There are a few good clone cameras out, I dont think the SJ4000 is one.

You can get a SJ6000 in the meantime for a few dollars more with WIFI, same picture quality though. and there are also clones of the clone with only 3Mps that you want to stay away from.

Just bought one for under $100. Great picture quality. Who cares if it dosn't have a fiddly remote and slo-mo. Bloody great.

Hey sugarqube. I think the SJ4000 is pretty good for its price. Maybe there are better gopro clones that use gopro attachments and are less than $100. Can you tell me ones that are better than the SJ4000?

All the others I have seen dont use GOPRO mounts, some say the SJ4000 is worth getting just for the attachments.

I've got to add it really depends what you want the camera for. If it's for swimming around in the water or mounting on your lines then it's probably the best cheapest option for you. However, if you plan on doing absolutely anything else there's cameras that cost less and will yield a far better end result.

Out of interest, what are you recommending as a better option for 'doing everything else'? I use the Gopro for Kiting,SUP's, snow boarding, mounting biking, time lapse etc, and shortly i hope to get a drone. The only thing I feel that is missing is some form of zoom.

The Cineform soft wear is pretty good for any entry level editing and the compression works fine with third party editing programs if you need to step the editing up a level.

I really like the option to use the GoPro app to view the footage straight away and wireless transfer to my iPad,phone or lap top for editing.

For me the package works but always keen to hear if there is a better option out there

Ive not used that one but if your camera came with a head strap you can modify the strap to fit a centre kite strut, jump on you tube, theres a heap of vids on how to do the modification and once you finished you can always put the head strap back together the original way and use it as designed.

Works really well and fits on different sz struts also.

Coles have those knock off gopro's for $45 or close to it.
Ask at the smoke counter!
For anyone on a budget, they work good enough.

Looks great. It could also be used as a neck mount. Just need to make sure you get it nice and tight.

Is that just the standard "gopro" head strap?

What are they worth?

There's a $30-40 strut mount and then there's a $100 camrig mount. Fck paying $100 for that!

Lookin into gettin a gopro it's $100 difference between the black and silver. Is there really that much difference? The black one in the shop is $529 then you can get them on eBay for around $400?

What's the battery life like on them?

How do you guys attatch them to your kite?

Is gopro the way to go or is there a better camera?

theres a website that searches tech stores in australia called staticice just google it then use it to select the gopro you want. should be able to get em for around $350 a pop last i checked
