yep i plan to do some video action. but its the worst month of the year for wind at the mo and most of my sessions are opposite tack. which means crappy waves. i may need to wait until the spring westerlies return before any half decent wave footage.
Mutant lovers, your calls have been answered, franz plethora one of the kiting pioneers has started his own business making custom boards, check out www.alkita.from ,then navigate to board pictures, the graphics are stunning, I've heard they ride sweet as, I think I'm gonna get one
Perfect combo Brycol !
I have same set up as u on my King ... works really well imo (6' & 85kgs)
The full-on 18mm of concave sets these boards apart from the rest ... after u get into 'em it becomes evident ...
(i come from a surfing background and used to love deep deep channels)
It's like the deep concave provides a mini-hydro foil affect, and it funnels the water out the back more ... this is why they handle chop so well ... it provides lift & 'cushions' the ride, and i find i can ride for much longer periods than before
the rocker in 'em also makes them feel shorter than they are & combines well with the 18mm concave thru-out
the rounded ends means no face spray, and yes Funky they make the 140 seem small for a 140 ... I used to ride underground 138 and it dont feel bigger than that, under foot.
Single fin with grip ?
****k the way the concave works makes the rails hold so well, I've often thought I could ride even with out the 2 single middle-set fins sometimes - in extremely flat water ... and ****n great for super shallow sand banks when they crop up
BUt, I am biased, i ****n love e'm !
I gotta say ive been riding a mutant in the surf for the last 5 or so years (RRD Toxic Wave) and was recently one of the sheep that was talked into buying a surfboard ( North whip) which is a great board but I am having half the fun I was having on the Mutant! Im going back to the toxic wave....bring on the Mutant love!
Defiantly recommend the toxic wave, it rides both ways really well through I pretty much always ride it toeside.
Hey Plummet, I'm thinking about making a mutant (I've made a couple of TT's and the learning curve is ready for a performance board). If you don't mind me asking, how much rocker did you run with and was it consistent (or did it favour the tip)? Also, what type of construction did you use and what weight (excluding straps & fins) did you end up with?
I'm thinking of going with a wood core (few layers of ply) with fiberglass coat.
