My favourite thing is when people assume you're only "copying" or "mimicking" other sports because you hold yourself to a similar standard to them whilst kiting.

Soon you will realise all Boardsports are similar and the better people get at them the more they draw from each other.

If you guys were surfers you would complain that everyone is trying to be a skater now, If you guys were snowboarders you would complaining that everyone is trying to be a skater now... No one is trying to be anything, they just relate, adapt and evolve.

So what exactly is "kiteboarding" style??? And if that's the only style that has premise can someone please tell/show me what that is. Because as far as I can see there isn't one

Hell yeah, so have I.
Thank god for sir Rowdy( does the sir mean he is Sir Eltons son??) to show us the way of the future progressiveness of evolving lol
Just been out in the garage taking the brakes and pedals off my BMX, otherwise I wont be a progressive art form hipster styling coolness dude progressing and evolving. lol
Now I feel Im where its at, I dont enjoy it as much, but, thats the price you pay to be a "progressevolvedartisian", which is what its all about , yo.
lol' ing at the lameness of this thread, and the ones who get upset that they are not being recognised for what "they" perceive as being progressive. lol and yaaaawnnniing

Besides, those of us that are ACTUALLY up to date with the progression and evolution of kiting all know
it is all aimed at strapless unhooked foil boarding. Duhhhh.

Mad "Kitestyle" @Surfingboye, I've never seen a "backspin" or backwards rotation done in any other sport in my life. Stop copying other sports.

Why more posts? Laurie called me up and said stats were down... Job done I guess .

I'm actually in Morocco now at the first Pro Tour stop @Lotofwind .

Can't kite in the dark dingbat... You're correct in a way though, besides kiting there's nothing to do here, it's just camels and sand. I'm sure that would keep you busy though.

I prefer the use of the term nutbar as apposed to dingbat......

PS Why can't you kite in the dark? I have done it many times. Jumping in the dark.... Very surreal. I don't think your being progressive enough by only kiting through the day.....

PPS. Camels I can live without.... But all that sand.... OH yeah. I'd be blazing all over those dunes in my kite buggy! **** yeah!
PPS. In my kite buggy i am not harnessed in at all..... the kite is hard wired to the buggy.... Maybe that's the next progression for you. Hardwire your kite directly too the board!

is that toby or leo in that vid? probably leo (toby goes higher when doing his flicky board off/copter moves )
great skills either way i guess.

aahaha all makes sense now on the "extra posts" rowdy - editing time in the desert nights.
i enjoyed the kite/skate edit too. always thought the different flat spin variations look sick fun to do with the skatey landing...got to get on one, one day.

hey - was that plums on a land buggy half way through as well? you had a sail up instead of a kite plums, sacrilege!!!

Well, that's a staged pose for the water photographer, right ?

Nice pic though.

The image is full of ambiguity which makes the shot interesting.

Ben rides unhooked when kiting a wave, but in this photo he is pseudo-ly attached ...

cause he's got hold of the loop and is actually 'sheeting' the kite.

He's effectively depowering the kite as if he had been hooked in to his harness.

[He needs to be careful not to trigger his quick-release].

Doing a full lay-over bottom-turn unhooked while swinging under a kite parked at 12 o'clock,

requires arms the length of an orangutan's.

The same bottom-turn hooked in would draw on a different geometry,

with the kite being sent across the face and positioned at 9.30 - 10 o'clock.

It's time for me to go, it's blowin.

"stop copying vert skaters, do what you want, don't copy other sports"
surely doing what you want, means you can do what you want?

is is the same as....

people riding unhooked in waves, need to stop copying surfers?

WTF, i'm so confused.

I just want to go kiting.

Holy crap that looks windy haha. I would ride unhooked there, on my pole board .

I actually had a few good sessions (and surfs) at the point break here in Dahkla. I un-hooked a bit but the wave isn't really the greatest for it, wind is fairly gusty and direction is usually more off than cross. Rode hooked-in on an 8m mostly, no point having a bad time .

How do the waves remain that clean when its that windy, at my local as soon as it picks up to 20knots it turns into choppy slop

Its because its cross off. Actually looks quite offshore. Windsurfers can hold a better offshore angle than kiters. I guess its because they can depower 100% by flagging the sail into the wind. If you try to kite too offshore wind, you end up constantly battling an upwind line to stay on the face, and you can no longer outrun any monster whitewash if you get closed out in front of.

Simply. Once there a snippet of offshore in the wind it hits the side/front of the face the cross off wind typically kills the upwind face but leaves the downwind face to be relatively clean. Then add a big swell to the mix. The bigger the swell the more it cleans the face but sucking it smooth. Get a solid double head day. The first couple of waves in the set really flatten the chop and you can get some real smooth faces.

Add a point break that's a little protected from the wind at sea level, but still good wind at kite level, then you have even more glorious kiteable smoothness.

I've ridden some insanely smooth faces in howling 25- 40 knot winds because its cross cross off, big swell and point break.

The poler opposite of this ...^^

is when clueless crew on the pole-forum try to talk kite,

This is what rowdy is talking about in film form. Progressive kite surfing. You don't have to be unhooked in every move or trick. Check the re entry at 1:27. It's about as much stylish damage as you can do to a wave. I think Keahi sums it all up by his performances on the water. Doesn't matter whether it's 1 or 10 foot, or what craft he is on, he's ripping with a smile on his face.
