Sounds to me like you two are saying the same thing. Just it's not all about balls / fear of injury, the plateau is also about lack of new thrills and lack of easy wins. For me, it's all 3 but the last one is biggie....and I know it's lazy but once the easy fruit is picked it gets less fun.

I am with plummet I guess.....average in lots of things, but a master of none. Maybe above average in a few things eh.

Foiling.....so much to learn....I am in the low level intermediate honeymoon period, can't get enough.

For those who are stoked on the foil craze.... we have the biggest fleet of Hydrofoil racers at any intentional event to date, coming to Rockingham in 2 weeks for the final stop of the Hydrofoil Pro Tour.Lots of locals, first season racers, and interstate foilers attending too!!

Yeh I kind of get ya...trust me we get all sorts of 'terrain' on the Wild West coast...

I suppose my gig is mastering what I do, but I am fastidious (to my detriment) about things.

Slight variations....not really. a darkslide is very different to a Jesus walk. a simple tweaked say tail grab jump jump is very different to a couple of tail grab tweaked vertical forward rolls at high altitude. A powered loop...is very different to even a high altitude loop with a late back roll. Rotational board offs are very different to static jump board offs...then add in to blind work. Doing this in the waves adds an entirely new set of skills. Different transitions are not slight variations.

All these categories take a very different approach. The master of variations is someone like Airstyle Toby...he just takes it waaaaayyy to far.

But sometimes i I wish I was more casual and try more sports, even if I only got to a certain level (reached that saturation point as you call it) for sure.

I never get bored even after 17 seasons. Always challenged. always something else to master. Suppose I'd rather be pretty good at one thing than average at a lot of things...

I think a better way to put it, is when people reach that risk/reward ceiling. When the risk to injury starts to far outweigh the reward. But this is a subjective thing.

To say people reach a saturation point, nah I don't buy that. They just have reached a point where there balls become become smaller than their logical self preservation state of mind. Must admit I'm getting close to that point however.

Yeah. We are talking about the same thing. The term may not be accurate enough but its the risk to reward effort matrix that plateaus after a while.

I with I could be a specialist. But i'm not. The bright side is I have a very wide net of fun conditions. I'm yet to find a sport for pissing with rain, no wind.

Yeah I call myself above average to good at the disciplines/sports I do. But not excellent.
With the exception of kite buggy racing in the sand dunes. For that fringe discipline of a sub fringe part of a fringe sport I am the man....... Currently the NZ champion.

Oh you've found that sport alright. But it's not only limited to bad weather!

Talking yourself up to greater altitudes than the space station! Not only here but on the other 2 forums you pollute too! Yeah, forum pissing is your specialist subject.

I know you. All the locals know you. None of us like you. You know that too.

hehe, so what's a Canadian doing on this south of the world forum anyway? Very much enjoy the Aus/NZ attitude, taking the piss or otherwise. The heavy weather section is something else!

Anyways, sport to do when it's rainy and no wind? Up here, that is SURFING. All our waves come with storms. That's why kitesurfing in waves is so rare in our local, pretty much need sun to get decent winter wind, and the combo of sun and waves doesn't happen often enough.

This is a foiling thread, so better link it in....there's not enough wave days here to be a proper kitesurfer, at least not enough to scratch the itch. So end up mowing the lawn on flat days. Why not spend some of them on a unicycle? At least it avoids being called a "roller kiter".

No idea who this angry tomasb is. Never heard of him before. So can't call him a buddy by any means.
I feel sorry for him. Getting angry at what others type on internet forums.
Life it too short to get pissed off at such pointless things.

He right about one thing. I do like a bit of internet forum pissing. Its what I do to chillax. Type some pointless **** onto the internet. Talk it up, have some banter.

I see the higher you are - the better for cruising, untill the blades get jamed in long weeds !

Whats the story if your cruising or doin the Rotto race and theres lotsa weed around.. turning your weapon into a drift anchor ?
It gives me the s**ts on a surfboard but easy enough to jump clear it or ride backeards

In case that was a serious question the answer is that there is probably no more weed catching ability than a decent length fin on a windsurfer that needs upwind ability.
So you hit weed on your freeride windsurfer your race kiteboard or your foil, same old same old.
Although my only weed collect just had me lose lift and gain wobble. Touched down stopped cleared it.
Weed on my windsurfer speed board. Now thats a whole lot of wow.

Solid things (like fish) knock you off balance, weeds you can ride with though they suck air down and upset the foil. Can result in falling off and if there's enough crap in the water, just give up.

Do you even get that wind strength over in QLD? My board with boots gets along quite well with the foil in the same shed. No dramas so far. BTW you can hurt your testicles crashing a foil just as hard as boosting in 45 knots. Give it a go ;-). Nothing wrong with kiting anything from sub 10 to 45 knots really

I love how some people can understand riding a foil but don't get why you would ever ride a wakeskate ... ride whatever you find challenging and fun .

My only gripe about foils is how locked in it is (basically a massive fin) but that's also what makes it interesting. There's no way I could only foil, but I couldn't only do any one discipline kiting. That's what's great about this sport, you have the ability to ride many different craft.

This thread is hilarious.. I am continuously amazed at people's desire to bag others.I've been foiling for close to 3 years, coped more flack than most since I started before most peeps even knew what it was. I didn't chose racing but waves, which made my voyage even more 'interesting'.. so I can say I speak from experience, of sorts.

Today I DO ride waves on my foil, in every possible condition from 8 knots glass to 30 knots mush and everything in between. I only need 2 kites, a 5.5 and an 8 . Those that know where I ride know I will take the foil out 'on purpose' so I learn more and more. Does this mean I can't ride Surfboards, top and bottom turns etc, even a twin tip (have 2).. Hell No! I can ride anything at my level - this is simply to set the background of my post..

So.. when did I EVER bag another side of the sport? I have not, and I also do not waste time in negativity. But my point is: After years of development, world cups and tours, basically every brand finally jumping on the band wagon, the great Laird Hamilton, the unquestionable Kai Leni, disciplines like Hydrofoil Racing, SUP Foiling, Wake Foiling, Surf Foiling, and now Waves becoming a real discipline... Why the hell would you waste time bagging an obvious emerging side of the sport? Specially since all you will be demonstrating is your own lack of understanding a new world and ability to adapt. Instead, be happy the waterways have emerging sports, people are pushing the limits into new frontiers..

Try it, don't try - your bag. But shut the hell up with the criticism, grow up - the proof is there for all to see. If the America's Cup yachts think it's ok to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in it, we'd better wake up and pay attention. So much more is coming in Hydrofoiling.. I've seen the new stuff and we will be going places never though of before. I am happy Kitesurfing has new avenues for me to explore, we've done the same thing over and over, for far too long.

The only question I have now is: who will be the first to get barreled on a Foil? I only wish I had the skill, and the youth, the years to learn it to that stage.

Be happy we are witnesses :) Peace up and sweet Seabreezes to us all

Btw, I didn't drop in.. that is Bertrand Fleury and we do coaching sessions ON the wave . He pushed me onto that one, so when your coach says GO you take it - trust me it's bigger than it looks from this angle eheheh.

Every beach and/or region has that one Kiter with the big mouth or internet presence that everybody wishes would just STFU.

When I was a young overexcited apprentice to kiting that was prob me.

Most grow out of this stage, usually as they gain more life and kite experience.

What I have learnt is the people with the most experience and/or talent are often the quiet ones.

LIVE TO RIDE.
