Are you up to a challenge ?
Have you a group of mates with a decent boat ?
Can you kite 20 nautical miles ?
Ive been thinking of this for a while and have been making plans to do the trip with a mate this summer with him as safety in his boat, ive kited this area and its epic, a big lagoon, butter flat even in 35knts and a wave spot where the waves roll approx 1klm across and travel through the passage at least the same distance,
So if you and a few mates from your local are up for it let me know and ill post some details of what im thinking,

sounds like we are getting a crew, the crossing is from denham to dh island, ive kited over the island a few times solo, so i was thinking if a few crew wanted to get together itd make an epic adventure, its a big gig so groups of 4 to 6 with a safety boat( ive crossed it in a 15ft dingy in 25knts) we can stay at the homestead or camp, so the general idea is to do the crossing in groups with a boat as safety, a small plane will keep an eye out and take some epic footage, a bigger boat will brind all the camping gear and refreshments over, we check out the islands kiting spots over the weekend, do a bit of fishing( this is where your mate with the boat becomes interested) and return on the plane( seats six) or jump the big boat back, its all in the early planning process, as for cost we split it between the group ( ill give the interested parties an idea), itll be in peak wind period ( wa) im open to time suggestions and any questions or comments, i know ive got a midwest crew or 2 , if you want to check out the place google dirk hartog island , or you can sit on your arse watching tv with a beer and skin up

Well you know the winds best, a nice 18 to 25 would be best. Get those kind of winds up there! Lol! Yeh you say about 9am before it really kicks in..lol

MMmmmm. I'm interested. When are you planning for? (i've got some free time 10/08 - 08/09/13). Be good to have a little east coast contingent there, for some friendly east-west banter.

Too early in the season maybe for that part of the world. Sure ya might get some suitable days but the probability of landing one, given the commitment of boat, plane etc...is too low I'd say. Might be wrong.

Sounds like a mighty fine plan. Hope the beak is sharp and the shell is soft. Would love to be involved!

I'd be keen, subject to no conflicts etc with other commitments....

I thought you might be talking an end to ender on the port Gregory pink algae lake!

There's some talk of a few of us doing a Gero to horrocks down winder next summer too.... Wind up in my horrocks beach house.
Nothing like planning a few adventures to get through the winter doldrums !

Kim, Gero surf & sail has been talking about a Gero to the abrolos kite. Now that would be a challenge!

It would be 80 kms of pain.....

I know a few fishermen who live in the Southern Group who also have huts. I'd rather boat accross and save the energy.

Perhaps we should lock the topic now and swap details before Mark Australia tells us how f***ing stupid we all are.

Haha good thinking. HSEC might get onto us too...

I think it's a bit closer than 80ks to the islands but you are right, bloody long way on 1 tack!

Come on Underoath you know I'm normally the over-cautious one in these types of discussions My first thought was sounds awesome, so was Markies.

Edit: subject to adequate planning of course.

Can we plan something of this ilk to take place just before or after Kitestock?
That way I only have to pay for one trip to WA in the next year.

erhuh erhuh

funni

(Strangely enough in that previous one I was right, wasn't somebody left halfway and nobody knew where he was??? hmm)

Thanks for speaking for me, but seeing as though there is some planning here I don't think i was gonna say that.
Anyway the shortest trip to DH Is is 35km so it would farken hurt the old leg muscles - but be an epic trip.
