I found that a bit creepy.

Never knew S&S designed Duncs

Probably inspired by Sparkman & Stephens! Like the interior but might have to change the seventies coloured cushion covers. Cutter rigged with a self tacking staysail would be easy to handle. Don't like the davits of course, this makes it a motor sailer and this brings us to the engine. I would check just what engine it actually has. I have an MD7b in my Currawong and it's adequate for that, fat 35 footer not so sure. Has a saildrive too which might be a few years old now! Several really nice Duncanson 34's about. I would prefer one of them and toss the wheel steering.

I'm actually not interested in it. I just got a giggle out of the ad .

I may be a bit of a freak in that Duncansons do absolutely nothing for me. I don't see the appeal.
Maybe akin to my not 'getting' Bob Dylan ...or Paul Kelly??!!

Not really sure what your looking for ,nothing wrong with Duncanson hulls I lived on one for 5 years and sailed S.A , tassie and east coast. You maybe at a stage to step back and make decision when it comes to you.. https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/1990-DUNCANSON-35/OAG-AD-16630247?pageSource=details&id=OAG-AD-16630247

That's nice looking boat with a decent motor and shaft drive. Nothing like the other one with an MD7b and saildrive.

AFAIK these boats have stub keels with lead bolt on. I think I can see the joint in one of the pics. The key question is what material did Dunc use for the keel bolts- stainless or silicon-bronze?

So Ramona, it seems judgeing by some of your recent examples of boats for sale, the non committed or serious yacht owners are bailing out big time.

That guy with Nellie Zander should pay someone to take it off his hands.

Here a couple more in that area.

The serious yacht owners are just dying! Young people just want shiny. There is a nice Northshore 33 on the slips here at the moment bloke our age bought for 18 grand!

Bruce has lowered the asking price again. Like a lot of us he is getting on a bit and finding the boat a bit much for him.

Never seen a steel SS34 before. Be good to see a photo of it out of the water! Bit over twice the weight of a 'glass SS34 so she wont be all that fast.

That was close to my old mooring. It's a Roberts 34, not an S&S, and it's not particularly "well maintained" as it claims; in fact I think the paint job may be the result of a dent repair after it came off the mooring.

Says a lot about the attractiveness of the S&S34 that other designs try to make out they are one. It might be the same broker who has another boat in Batemans Bay he is calling an S&S34, but it isn't.
Or maybe he is just a bull...t artist broker!

I was going to call it a Roberts 34 but would have preferred a shot of her out of the water. No one would build a single chine SS34 !. Got into a discussion with the owner of that other boat when he was here for a few days. I called it a Townsend 34 and he got quite agitated!

I know the other one, and while I used to think it was a Townson, these days I believe the owners when they say it's a 34 foot S&S although obviously not a production version. S&S did break out of their mould at times. The round bilge Batemans Bay one looks a fair bit like the Sagitta 35, a production S&S from Sweden with a wider stern than the production S&S 34. See https://www.nettivene.com/en/purjevene/sparkmanstephens/720264#EDIT - the Townson Association has details of all of Des' designs and pics of most. The BB boat is clearly not a standard Townson 34 of any model. She doesn't really fit any other design on the list, and she doesn't have the prominent curve in the stem that is so typical of Townsons.

It is pretty common knowledge what happened to the S&S34, (S&S Design 1969) moulds. Anything not built in those moulds is not the well known S&S34 yacht. I don't know why owners and brokers keep trying this on.
Winfield built the moulds in 1967 or thereabouts and built their boats.
The Swarbrick brothers went to the UK and bought them, late 1968 or 69.
Swarbrick built their boats. They went broke in 1984 (Morning Bird the last of their boats) and Maybrook Marine on the Central Coast got the moulds. They built about 6-10 boats.
The moulds sat in a paddock until Mike Finn bought them and they went back to Perth for the latest batch to be built by Cottesloe Yachts.
The moulds are still there.
Morning Bird is hull no 118 (or 119 depending on the list being looked at). Here is a list of the Swarbrick and Cottesloe built boats.
www.ss34.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Register-of-Yachts-built-website.pdf
Many Swarbrick boats were owner fitted out and look like it. I have been on maybe 15 and all the owner fitted out ones were horrible. The Maybrook boats have lovely interiors.
Morning Bird has a quite nice fitout (not of the very high standard Maybrook did their boats too) and I notice on the records in this link she may have been fitted out by Maybrook. I doubt that, I believe from talking with Neil de Cean, the first owner who ordered her from Swarbricks and who I bought her from, she was fitted out by Swarbrick and all that happened when she arrived here was that the engine and rig was installed at RSYS.

For reference Boat number 32 owned by G Finchett was/is called
Sinnerman.
won div 2 in Westcoasters 77,79,80 and 9th in 78 S/H.
A very well raced boat out of HBYC my nemesis.

Another SS34 raced out of BYC by Alan Collins in that era was 'Eastern Morning'. Don't know where she sits in PDF.

I was dead keen on buying this Aquafibre hull SS34, same as Edward Heath's boat. Lot lighter than the Swarbrick boats.

It's not just S&S34s that are affected. There were "Farr 40s" Design 136 one tonners that were production built by Gunter Heuchmer and sold under the "Farr 40" label, but there are other 40 ft Farr one tonners to different designs that are known as "Farr 40s". Then of course there's the Farr 40 One Design (TM). There's the"Farr 36" production boat built in Perth, and some 36 foot Farrs to other designs that are also called Farr 36s by some. It seems to be confusing but inevitable.

There's no rule to stop someone calling a 34 foot S&S of any other design by the S&S 34 tag, although like you I agree it's poor form in some ways. With the Batemans Bay boat it may be a different story - I don't think any more than one production S&S 34 went over there so if someone called a boat an "S&S 34" they were just following the same theme as with a Townson 32, Stewart 34, etc.

Same deal with SS36. There is the WA built Prestige and then the built by Holiday Boats Bataan, Phillipines SS36.
