Was going to have a look at this on Tues after everything went pear-shaped with the VDS. Ended up going straight to the airport, though, as I thought it might be a bit light for Tassie waters.

They are very capable yachts though that one seems a bit cheap! Why only two photos! Local one for sale here but I can't find the listing. Sails past me like i'm standing still. Only thing I don't like is the sail drive.

Yup, I'm not a fan of saildrives either after seeing the boot coming away from the hull of the VDS

Mmmm...x yachts. Troubadour, does the 342 have the removable panel in front of the companionway? I remember you remove the panel to pick up the hook attachment in the floor that was part of the galv alloy frame, and you lift the boat on that one point.
Love the alloy frame concept, that I thought was just brilliant.
Great boats.

I would still recommend the 1993 alum Radford 10.6 at Scarborough!

yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sale/used/sail-monohulls/radford-10-6/218679

It is a brilliant boat, just came down on price 10k and the dealer David Mason-Cox is a very decent bloke (ex Commodore of MBBC) who helped me a lot when l bought my yacht.
It might cost a bit more than 12.5k but at least it is in one piece!

Would this be suitable for liveaboard for one and Tassie sailing?

I would question why the paint is missing around the main block of the engine. 33 foot maybe a bit small to livaboard in tassie , Binimi is great and you can get a full cockpit cover to through over the top like I have. Hardly ever take it off. So much for cheap boats on the flooded market hey!

Hi Ramona

Is that "Just Us Two" that sails past you? That is the one I built. Sail drives are okay as long as like everything else they are maintained.

Yes that's it. Last time I saw the listing the price was a lot lower. It is the one troubadour worked on. It is not here at the moment and it's either on his other mooring in Jervis Bay or he has sold it. This one is very well fitted out and no expenses spared. Big boat for 33 feet!

Another boat worth a look is this Ohlson 35 that has been for sale for a long time. These are a few years old now but reported to be excellent boats. I have been watching this one for a long time. Years ago I was tempted to buy one from NZ and sail it home but chickened out! Like a grown up version of an SS34. Interior looks a little dated now but they are asking for offers!

There is one of these for sale in Melbourne too. It looks like a very cool boat, but in the marina the bum seems to sit very deep in the water. Not sure if it is overloaded or a design thing, but to me it doesn't look right.

Yes, Andrew68, l drew attention to that one too, further back in this thread. That boat is on the market for yonks. It was listed for much more money, no move, he dropped it and it is still there. I wonder if it's ever been sailed?
It sits funny, indeed.

50-year-old 14 HP petrol motor!

If it is GRP the age does not matter. A 14 HP motor should be sufficient to push the clansman at 4-5 knots. And I am certain you could get the price negotiated further. So for circa $10K it is a hell of a lot of a boat

No, you won't. There a re a few listed below $20K but I can assure you there is a reason for that. A good Compass will still cost $25-30.
But the point is, the Clansmans are sturdy built and for $10-$14K they are a good value even if you just want it for to live on. Bloody tinnies cost that much these days

That's a lot of boat for the money. Like the pulpit design and the appropriate sized Rocna. It is big though and the loads on the rigging and the weight of everything mean this is a boat for younger people. Costs for running this sized vessel, mooring fees, rego, antifouling and slipping fees and marina etc however is more in line with what a wealthy self funded retiree could afford. Going by what I see locally large boats, boats over 35 feet don't leave their mooring very often.
As for a replacement for your last vessel I would reckon after you have cruised with a large steel yacht this would be a breeze to handle.

If you were a pensioner in NSW then you would be only paying 50% of rego, mooring fees etc!

yes, I agree the internal arrangements are not ideal and not more room than in any other 27 or 28 footer, typical Aussy 70's layout, but the boat is a sturdy bluewater design.

Mate was a marine mechanic. If you like the boat put a cash offer in. If it has a lead keel it's a keeper.

Probably inspired by Sparkman & Stephens! Like the interior but might have to change the seventies coloured cushion covers. Cutter rigged with a self tacking staysail would be easy to handle. Don't like the davits of course, this makes it a motor sailer and this brings us to the engine. I would check just what engine it actually has. I have an MD7b in my Currawong and it's adequate for that, fat 35 footer not so sure. Has a saildrive too which might be a few years old now! Several really nice Duncanson 34's about. I would prefer one of them and toss the wheel steering.

I'm actually not interested in it. I just got a giggle out of the ad .

I may be a bit of a freak in that Duncansons do absolutely nothing for me. I don't see the appeal.
Maybe akin to my not 'getting' Bob Dylan ...or Paul Kelly??!!

Davidson 34. Real handful and cheap thrills. Tempted by one a few years ago but chickened out. Mate bought it and raced it on Jervis Bay but had to sell it on and bought a Northshore 37 instead. Needed several brawny crew!

A good mate just sold his for the same amount of money, and it was immaculate. It is a buyers market that's for sure.
Great race boat. You could sneeze and the boat would move.
