Hello, I am just interested in comparing different sizes materials and weight to get an idea of what is light and what is not.
Although it looks as though you could attach an electric trolling motor to the back of one and use it without the sail, no?
PS I'm talking about the older type of moth with the flat front, not the hydro foiling one.
I guess you could use an electric motor but the batery you need for that will be a bit heavy and bulky. i had one of them on a small inflatable tender for my 40 footer, the prob was the run time and at the end I sold it and got a small 2.5 HP petrol engine with an inbuilt fuel tank. That was alot lighter and reliable.
It only has to move forward, not at any sort of speed.
Picture a no wind summer day, going along at minimal speed just 200 metres out from the beach. That would be good enough.
I wonder if a solar panel that would fit would be able to provide enough power for this?
I've found out more about it, unfortunately it is very heavy.
20kg for the front section and another 40kg for the back.
It's a shame because the size is getting better.
Oh well still might find something like this in the future.
There was a boat called a windrider which was available earlier this year that's probably what I should have bought.
Your going to gave to compromise.wooden boat light, lots of maintenance, glass boat heavier Less maintenance.buy the bloody thing.otherwise your going to hum and harr and never get out there!!
Well it's just that I know things like what I want do exist it's just waiting for one. I mean I'm not going to be using it this time of year so there's no big hurry.
Thanks for the suggestion though if it wasn't for the weight issue it would be good. Still a little smaller would be better.
Maybe a carbon nanotube boat will come out soon. lol
