Fitted the new dodger and No 1 reef and then went sailing with Claverton. A pleasant afternoon on Pittwater, apart from a RHIB scaring me as he approached on a collision course at 30kts. Poked our nose out into the Pacific and sailed back. Got a bit over 6kts on the wind in 10 kts relative wind.
Pretty good afternoon.
Hi HG
When the lid is open does it interfere with the tiller on hard starboard turns or is their more clearance than the photo suggests
Regards Don
No Donk it opens OK and no interference
What happen to your fridge project or did I miss that completion post Ho2.
Marina fees this week Second Fridge in a couple of weeks South Ace .But the first one is working no bench top till after the second fridge arrives
Hi HG
The local Walker H28 that i posted the pick of a little while ago on its mooring was tied up at at a jetty the other day and i was able to have a good look at it
Something i did not realise is how much longer the cockpit is than on my Sailmaster
I reckon you must have about 2 to 3 extra feet of length over mine
Previously i thought that the mizzen would be in the way but now i realise there is still plenty of room available
Regards Don

I always thought your Sail master and my H28 would have exactly the same cockpit length Donk
The Door clears OK in some ways would have been nice if it was removable but it clears the tiller and opens and closes with out any interference from the tiller. And using the engine for long periods is not what Id like so it all was a compromise.
And I like it as its in the cockpit and I can see the gages easily while on the tiller and when its closed up theres a O ring to assist in sealing the enclosure keeping the weather and sun off the gages.
So now I have added a couple of Tacktick wireless instruments to my list of goodies to buy to fit in my yet to be finished Instrument pod.
I need to cut and polish the cabin top area and might need another coat of paint ( my foam roller started to come apart and left a few bits) so I'm waiting till thats done then I can fit my new acrylic hatch cover.

Hi HG
No not at all
The transom of mine is vertical and the cockpit does not extend all the way to the transom
One of the previous owners made a extended tiller so the easist way to sail her is to have the person on the helm sit forward and the person on the winches sit behind and step over the tiller when tacking
I use the 2 speed rearmost mounted winches for the headsail sheets and when they are where i want them put a turn around the cleat behind the winch and it will normally hold itself
I acvtually dont mind this because when i sail with my wife she normally helms and when i am not pulling on sheets i can sit on the top of the pushpit rail and hold on to the backstay and have a good look at what the sails are doing
Regards Don
Donk What I find in my cockpit is water will lie at the bottom of the back rest on the cockpit seats towards the stern not much but enough that if you don't know you get a wet patch on your shorts. Sort of wondering if Kahn Walker altered and remedied that problem on your sail master?
A friend of mine lashed some wood for a seat on his Walker
Thats a table he made it fits under the settee when not used
Hi HG
Can't say that I have ever noticed water pooling there but that is not to say it doesn't happen
It has been raining her for for the last couple of weeks so next time I go out to her I will have a look and see

It just does not quiet drain away .I guess once under sail it would
Well it cranks over have to find the stop solenoid relay and plug it in, its here some where have pretty dash lights( Ill buy some LED globes off ebay and install them )still have to wire in the senors wire for the gages.
The tacho will be a pain to calibrate I bet
Found this treat at the boat shop which will go in the head as it gets a bit steamy in there when in the shower!
$150 second hand. Mind you it will take me 2 hours to remove the silicon with a blunt chiesel!

Loose change said about some silicone remover in Bunnings but I guess it does not need to be absolutly clean like your painting it
Bloody good find South Ace
Thats a nicely set up anchor and bow S.A
I want it clean as I will be sealing the new one on polyurethane fix tech! Once you get under the gue you can rip up small sections!
Hey SA , what sort of anchor is that ?
I know very little about anything , and less about anchors .
so I have been taking some interest of late , but dont think i have noticed one that shape before . What type / brand is it ? and used for what type of seabed?
cheers .
It's made by industal springs in adelaide! $500 for 24 kg its pretty bullet proof. I think scruising has a write up somewhere on his blog, they have a web site......it's the marsh anchor.
Cleaned and ready to fit maybe tomorrow ! Obviously someone had no idea how to fit a hatch and decided to rip it out again for some reason! This will be the only hatch opening from aft as I don't want to freeze my bits of when in the shower, my two main deck hatches both open from forward and have made in china sunbrella covers!
You cant beat a Honda well made and quiet
I been looking at Yamaha actualy but swing more for the honda as I have proven it ! Not sure about 4 stroke Suzuki outboards though!
Oh and completed my splices in my nylon strop as well as my new anchor and lazy anchor device!
Instead of splicing the hook onto the strop/snotter, you could have just spliced a tad bigger eye to the anchor end which you put around the chain and loop the snotter back through it and then place the other end loop over your cleat/bollard. It will not slip on the chain.
I notice you did not slide any anti-chafe material over the line before you made the second splice.
I am using layflat irrigation hose over my mooring line eyes upon Ramona's recommendation some time ago. It is UV resistant, very tough yet still quite flexible and does not harden up like other plastic hose.
Despite the difficulty of splicing it your choice of nylon line for your snotter is the best. Nylon will stretch and then rebound, unlike most other line that will stretch and stay stretched.
The length of your snotter looks good but it could be longer. (Bit hard to tell from the photo.) I think a snotter should be long enough to reach looped around the cleat/bollard, over the bow roller and down to the water with the boat laying back on the anchor.
Compared to the marine carpet lines that snotter appears to be around 12 mm diameter which I dare suggest is a bit light for a snotter on a 42 foot yacht of say 9 to 12 tonnes displacement. I would be using 16 to 20 mm line even on my little Lotus 9.2 of 4.5 tonnes displacement. The larger diameter line should have more stretch in it.
Suck it and see. What have you got there?? About $15 to $20 worth of line and half an hours worth of splicing??
I was recomemded the nylon as what cats use..I did snap a polyester strop once a few years ago, I wantet a longer strop but to late now! It's not to light it's all heavy duty!
There out of the way and easy enough to see and out of the weather when its closed. Also seeing its only a 30foot boat thats one less thing inside taking up valuable space and where its fitted now there was nothing there and I can see whats going on when under power.
Trying to wire up a modal for the Bukh engine to some thing like a Raymarine I70 may have worked but its unproven with the Bukh .
I'm happy and I save boat dollars and the big plus at least I can motor when Ive finish wiring it up .,.
Very clever use of a hatch HG

That hatch and engine gage set took far to long
The whole scenario was like trying on dresses mc nautical the Gages were getting giddy I kid u not but I'm happy it took so long and happy where it now located
There's not large volumes of room on a H28
So I've been trying to find spots that had nothing there and would work
Tomorrow I will buy a 2kva honda and this item!
Thats a great looking setup South Ace. I goes for practical purposes eye filling etc the aux tank should be mooted higher than the genny. Do you know how many hours running you will get?

My Honda 2kva has been brilliant over the last four years on our boat.
One tip. Watch the angle of the starting cord as you pull it. The cord rubs on the plastics and wears grooves out of it. Hate that when I am trying to keep it in pristine condition.
Otherwise going good.
Saw one for sale here in Langkawi yesterday.
6,000 Ringet. So a bit over $2,000 Aus.
I got mine during a Honda special. Had a $300 cash back off $2k
On the last boat I worked on the 2kv would last 6 hours running one split system Aircon. I would have to get up at about 4am to re-fuel!
actually I don't think I need it down South it gets cold at night!
Stage 1 of the new cockpit floor, raised 6mm so it falls towards the drain, 19m marine ply with 600g double bias epoxied on top.
