I wish you were fitting out my boat, HG. Are you fitting a dim red light to preserve night vision?

Dr Rog ,
I would quiet enjoy that when I retire quiet happy to raft up and pass a few hours on your boat and dont worry Ill be up that way
heres a quick wiring job to see how they will look Ill wire them up properly tomorrow could only get three running s I didn't have any wire down at the boat

Ill drop down there later on tonight and see what it looks like in the dark and ill make a quick harness for the other light to work
I am thinking the back two leds are where the stove and on the other side the sink and fridge so I might put those two on the same switch but the settee leds one switch of each
And I vacuumed all my mess up. Ill give it a bit more of a scrub tomorrow

I would suggest strip lights down each side under the side decks. Over the chart table and over the stove red lights.

I have these roughly installed Thought this would be a good place to sleep under sail lowest place in the boat and center
I quiet like the way South Ace did his main cabin might think about doing a similar set up if he does not mind

I sort of like the idea of relaxing on a settee and watching a movie and having every thing in view makes a lot of sense to me
and weather changes can be seen and every thing is easy to get to at the moment I place my VHF and stereo where the original holes were but there dam hard to alter anything as its an awkward spot

you have to crane your neck and even then its hard to see what channel you're on on the radio much the same with the stereo also

Ill look into that Ramona for sure all the wiring Ive done so far is not permanent as you know how it goes sorting every thing out . Then adding more here and there . There will always be some thing I would have over looked or never thought of till its all zip tied and put away . Then you buy more zip ties

I did donk but my phone camera photo was disappointing so Ill go back down to night when I tucker her in . I paintewd around the port lights spacers this afternoon and when I go back Ill screw the port lights in for the week and tape the out side to keep the weather out I hope to final fit the port lights next weekend Im hoping one of the welders at work will weld the tags back on the outer rings this week He may have taken them home over the weekend not sure didnt catch up to him much last week been busy at work which is nice .Days go a lot quicker when your busy.

just got back from tucking her in for the night and quickly wired in the last led
Not a great photo but here it is

The aperture stays open a little longer I think and I wobble from old age My I phone does a good photo some times other times the color is off.
More likely its the operator than the camera
I have some other Leds which Intend to use around the stove and fridge area roughly like below Ramona and a few others as well. Once I sort out the book self area above the two settees I sort out some lighting there as well .
I measured up a

<div>Teac 23.6"(60cm) FHD LED LCD TV Combo Model No.LEV24A1FHD and it will fit into the book shelf area I did buy a 29 inch a while ago buts its to big so it is now used at home.
Teac is 240 volt with a conertor for 12 volt all you do is cut the terminal off and wire in the TV to 12 volts. . That fits into the cavity ok. The other thing I would like is a small low power microwave for quick hot water for coffee and noodles when sailing I measured up the cavity above the stove and it will fit nicely.
which Ill run of shore power or a sine wave converter. I would only run it for a a minute or two for hot water and noddles when sailing. The taylor stove takes a while to get going so I thought this might be a easier way

In all seriousness, I had a great deal to do with aircraft cockpits at one stage and lighting is tricky. Taking photos of lighting setups is very tricky.

I used to make up RGBs Leds for PC's there a real light show Brizzy
I built a bad boy PC for my son while he was away used one of these plus a lot of other goodies.
shop.aquacomputer.de/product_info.php?products_id=3092 once you program the software you can make the RGB lights do assorts of colors

Great work HG but I do think those LED lights are a tad in-congruent with those traditional port lights you have taken so much trouble to fit.

I think LEDs are great as long as they provide indirect lighting. I find them hard on the eyes if they shine direct. Just my opinion only.

Are you scared of the dark HGO2?

In all seriousness unless your expecting lots of guests for partys after dust , one small light combined with a headlight is all that is required.

A far cheaper solution to your microwave idea would be to purchase a butane single burner stove .....in the final months before the great loss of my craft I used the butane stove more than my Plastimo 2 burner gas. Very rarly used the microwave or all the lights I prevously installed.

sorry to ruin your fun!

Those diamond white LED's are very hard on the eyes, the colour temperature is way too high to be comfortable. A better choice would have been about 5000°K or even 4500°K.

Okay

So what did I do to my boat today?

Sold it

Dropped over 20K over three years but that's owning a yacht for you.

Over the period of ownership had some great times with memories that will last a lifetime - so as far as I'm concerned it was worth every boat unit.

I'm glad the boat is going to Tassie because I don't think I could handle seeing her again let alone watching her race results.

The 2 happiest days in aboat owners life -- don't believe it.

I pulled the heat exchanger out of my 3YM Yanmar today. I was tracking down a missing blade off the raw water pump impeller. Had to remove the alternator and in the limited space around the engine that task proved a little challenging. I found the missing blade at the entrance to the heat exchanger but when I saw the crud that was collecting in it, I figured it best to remove it for a clean.

that would have been a bit of a job. Its a pity your not down here Id take it to work and put it in the engine hot wash ,be like new in 24 hours. we have one for cast and another of alloy
It was nice to remove the protective plastic off the port light tonight after its was permanently fitted

Went back down there and dry fitted the port side lights now there ready to seal . Might do one or two tomorrow night after work. Might be a bit dark to see much in the photo below

What is it? Raped forests and habitat destruction. Vietnam doesn't appear to have any plantation teak, which means dozers in rainforests.

Is that plank sealed or bare wood? It sure doesn't look like Teak, even though Vietnam has thousands of hectares of Teak plantations. Judging by all the small pieces that it's made from, if it is Teak then it's the possibly from the smaller trees that they thin out if they don't look like they are going to be a quality tree.

Off cuts who knows Loose Change, I might even return it on Saturday after reading the back of the label. I dont think t will work as I wanted to flow coat the top and after reading the back it appears you need to oil it and keep on oiling it. Plus its weighty as well.

"smaller trees that they thin out if they don't look like they are going to be a quality tree" assuming sustainable forestry practices, which basically don't exist for teak. Vietnam has no FSC or similar certified teak as far as I can see. Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe teak furniture produced in Vietnam is made from Africa, Laos, Cambodia and Burma - all poor sources for anyone who has not yet completely failed to give a damn. Indonesia apparently has some decent sustainably logged plantations; but it also has illegal logging and government corruption so you'd have to do your homework.

Why do I care? Besides logic and basic knowledge of biology and ecology, I travelled up the the Rajang River in Borneo a few years back. This once magnificent river is lined with Chinese logging companies who (temporarily) employ locals to clear fell the forests they grew up being sustained by. The river runs brown with eroded soil. An elderly man I spoke to upriver said he used to be able to see the fish at the bottom. A mate and I took a translater and stayed with a Penan tribe beyond where we were legally allowed to go, one of the very few who had refused to be relocated to a new tribal suburban slum which we later visited. The Penan were nearly starving amidst a forest logged once legally (though unsustainably), and again illegally. We brought them some food, went fishing with them, ate and shared songs with the children. It broke my f8cking heart.

So I try to buy sustainable timber, avoid palm oil (very difficult), and think about the source of products generally. It's difficult and often impossible to get right and sometimes I just forget. I think teak is particularly problematic. Spoke to the guy at Anagote Timbers once about it and he reckons all teak is basically illegal or else way too expensive for most boat owners.

Apologies for the downer about your timber, HG. I'll go take my medication now. Normal programming will now resume.

The French established Teak plantations just after the turn of the last century and it was quite a sustainable industry till the war came along and about half of the plantations were lost. Teak has a harvesting cycle of approx. fifty years from sappling to tree. I'm not sure what the current status id but the plan was to have fifteen thousand hectares under Teak by about the year 2000. If that objective was ever met I don't know, but I seriously doubt it as like in most Communist countries the master plan is very rarely realised.

As for the palm oil plantations, they are just a travesty and a blight on the landscape. In most areas the jungle strip next to the road or river is all that is left and behind that are millions of palm trees. They are now encroaching on Kuala Lumpur city outskirts, you overfly them coming in to land at KLIA. On Borneo, Sumatra and Java it's just as bad.

Rant over and as you say DrRog, back to our normal program now.
