Couldn't agree more ! People saying their brand is the very best all the time is bad enough but other brands getting banged is really really annoying!

Started on GF short mast with Kai wing and it was super fun as it was new and exciting but could not really pump around but at the time still felt amazing!! moved on to the IWA wing and this was unreal at the time as i could start to link waves and started with a small amount of tow in DW but found it pretty tricky as the wind was never great and we really had no idea as no one else was doing it around here at the time. Finally got a 280 GF wing when they first came out and this was like a light bulb moment as downwind foiling was born to us and at the time i thought i would never need to go smaller as i was having so much fun!!
As i got better i moved on the the 200 GF wing which was also fun and by the way this was all with the short mast as the long mast had not been made yet, the 200 was a small step but coming of the 280 it was fun to push that little more speed!
From here my mate and ONE designer got some Axis gear and before this we were always really close while he was on GF and really in the early days myself Ben and his brother Marcus(sunova designer) were super close in our speeds with nothing in it but then once he got the Sunova 920 wing this changed as he would also be that little quicker and we started really working out how much difference the wing can make. From about this time we actually started working on our own wings but more on this a bit later.
The next really big step was the 900 Axis wing and once Ben got this wing he would flog me even if i was riding the IWA downwind he could tack far better angles and it really opened up a whole new world for Downwind this wing worked well for DW but i hated it in the waves and to pump it up was harder for DW so as good as the 900 was it did have some draw backs.
I ended up buying some Takuma LOL wings which maybe as a all around wing at the time of release was the best on the market for people to buy it was quick DW and surfed unreal, i did hate the alloy mast so got a carbon and this was better although the flex is bit of a killer if you are not used to it. I rode these for a while and enjoyed them.
I thought i would have a crack at the GF again and brought myself a 180GL but could never really get into it, it kind of did everything ok but i could never really get the most out of it so sold it.
For me this is where it gets pretty exciting as we had been working on making foils for along time and had made some really good wings but trying to deal with places like China to get what we wanted right was just a pain in the arse so we gave up on that side but as luck would have it we stumbled on to a place that can make our gear at a crazy high level and this is now what i ride and bloody LOVE it, it surfs amazing and DW is as fast and easy as i have ever gone. Right now i would be foiling the most expensive foil in Australia with the amount this has cost to get to this stage but the feel and performance is what i have been looking for.

All the steps above have been important, if you asked me if i would like to DW a 280 GF anymore the answer would be no as they feel crazy draggy but this was all part of the learning side and what many people forget about today as they go straight to the high aspect wings.

I used many other foils in this time but nothing else really stood out as a step forward and some stuff i used was just really bad. It's hard to really rank the foils as at the time when they came out they were all a 10 as the fun factor was huge but with time and just being human we all want to go faster and turn harder so that 10 can become a 1 when you move on to something better.

Hi!.. what do you think of the GLs comparing to the maliko,Iwa, Kai.... I have the maliko 200 and like it a lot, but really need a smaller wing sometimes... I have the GLs but don't fell confortable on them... I wing foil with sup Kalama 5'8, Duotone and my weight is 80kgs plus wet suit and 6 tall.... I found all my gear very unstable, may be the mast, the high aspect wings, me, all together??????????????....
for sure a stiffest mast would work better for me..... choppy water makes it too unstable...for me at least..
any suggest?... I have maliko and Kai tails...

I've recently upgraded my GoFoil setup from the Maliko 280, 200 & IWA to the GL 240 & 180. I'm a tad heavier perhaps at 80-85 kg - I haven't weighed myself in ages but that's the range I've been my whole life. I instantly loved the GL's. Soooo much easier to pump, so much more glide and speed. I don't find there's a stability issue at all, but I'd been using the GL tail stab (18" wide flat) with my maliko's for ages anyway so maybe that help me get used to the slightly more skatey feel - but I found that comes from the tail not the front wing. It took me a while to get truly dialed into the new style they have compared to the maliko range but I'm so happy with them - even though I loved the maliko's at the time I wouldn't go back to them out of choice now, they would feel too draggy and wouldn't be able to keep up with my expectations now I've gotten used to the GL's.
TBH I'm learning more about them every time I use them. They were designed for downwinding but it seems that with practice you can use them in pretty much any conditions. Look at Austin Kalama, Derek Hamasaki and James Casey- they crank turns with them in surf. I'm not there yet but will keep practicing!!!!!! I'm waiting to see if we get waves big enough to warrant buying the 140, but this time of year we only get swell.
Other than what I've already said about the GL's, I would add that while they are HA wings and therefore have less margin for user error, when you get it right they feel like they are trying to help you - push you onto the next swell, keep going while pumping to the next wave etc. When I first started using them I thought they didn't allow you to 'recover' from a bad pump (going way too low on the mast) like the maliko's, but now I've had a lot more practice I reckon you can recover from that type of mistake easier - you've just got to use the correct technique.
They aren't beginners foils, but when you're ready for them they are amazing!!!!!!!!

Yeah the GL wings never really sold me, i used the flat tail wing and hated it from day one so ended up using one of our own tail wings which made the 180 feel a little better is the surf and faster for downwind. I found the 180 pumped pretty good but never really felt great for waves and Downwind compared to other stuff i was using and nothing like what i use now. Kind of turned like a air bus if i had to describe it and Downwind i could never really get good speed out of it. The mast was much stiffer than most which was a good thing for them and compared to the older 200 and IWA the GL's are better in some ways but still hard to really fall in love with them.

It looks like the 140gl surfs much nicer but untested for me so only from what i see.

Cheers Paul
I would be super interested to know what tail you used with the GL180 to make it faster for downwinding/better in the surf AND what foils you are using now and how they compare to the GL... "and nothing like what i use now."

Looks awesome. It looks like it has really good speed when pumping back out!!!!!!! What size and aspect ratio is that foil? I knew you guys did boards but wasn't aware that you did foils as well.
I'd love to see the tail wing you were using with your GL if you can find it.

Yeah working on this side for a very long time on and off as getting the quality right for production has been hard to get to a quality we are happy with as these will be top end foils.
These won't be a ONE product for a few reasons but will get into that side once we fully release them.

Crazy amount of glide and they pump so good and leaves my old Takuma for dead. We are super stoked with how they feel and how versatile these wing are but I make them so happy to wait for other people to start riding them before talking it up to much??

When I get back in the shop in the morning I will take a few pics of the tail wing I was using on the GL

Dommo I don't think Jacko worked out that the standard go foil pedestal has the tail wing with too much lift angle but you know he is very impatient! That guy kills crows for breakfast.....
I adjusted mine firstly with a washer and the tail wing is fine. Same as the GL wings it took me a fair number of sessions to adjust but once you get used to them they def improved my foiling. Be interesting what the ONE guys have come up with as I hear Ben won't go foiling anymore until his set turns up! Pretty good sign that Jacko's is working well ha ha!

Haha yeah I lost those washers straight away as I thought they really could not be needed and as a shim they were **** on the water flow, I like to make everything so it does not catch water??

I have seen some guys ripping on the smaller GL wings so more than likely it is just me not being able to adjust after riding so many other foils. Plus I am pretty impatient as Scotty says. ??

Hi Scotty. This is with the 18" flat tail stab and the normal pedestal (not the new short ped) right? So where did you put the washer - under the front or back screw? I tried putting a washer under the back screw to give more lift - it did, but I didn't like it as it killed the speed. I'm riding it without a washer at the moment, I think Alex Aguera calls this the neutral position. Would be interested to know exactly what you did with the washer on yours to get better performance.

Cheers Paul
I would be super interested to know what tail you used with the GL180 to make it faster for downwinding/better in the surf AND what foils you are using now and how they compare to the GL... "and nothing like what i use now."

This vid is on our new foil and it is unreal but will have more on this soon as production is getting pretty close!! I will see if i can find a pic of our tail wing that i was using on the 180 when i have it as it did make it feel way nicer. The Red board in this vid has our new foil with Ben on it at the start and then me a few waves later.

When you say it leaves your old takuma for dead do you mean the LOL series???????
I'll look out for your foils when you release them :-)

Yes, I really liked the LOL wings and they really did everything really well. I have been doing a heap of swapping back and forward with Ben here who is still riding his and to be honest I have a real hard time going back to them now.

Better than Takuma LOL??????? I want a piece of that??

Here is the wing I used to make the 180 feel better for me.

paul.j - Isn't that a Takuma tail stab? Do you mount it with the tips pointing up or down when riding?

Here is a comparison you but they are very different even the thickness is much thinner on ours. we also mount our wing on the top as we find we get less turbulence top mounted.

Hi Dommo, have a look at the tail wing looking from the side and you see when its mounted on the pedestal without any washers there is quite a lift angle set (if you compare to inline with the fuselage). As per you have discovered the more angle the more lift is generated but in the expense of speed. I basically place a washer in to reduce the angle and flatten the tail wing to reduce drag. So you can do that dependent on conditions. Trail and error this to determine the best setting. I like it with a very low angle suits me best so it generates some lift with the least drag. Its amazing how a thin washer can make a noticeable difference. In conditions when a lot of pumping and lift is required I like more angle.

Got it, thanks. Really interested in your foils when they come out. Can you contact me when they are ready to be released/launched? I live in Oman at the moment so don't want to miss out.

Nice one Scotty - will find a thin washer and see if I can reduce the angle enough to make it flat and see how it feels. Cheers!!!!

From another post of yours I believe you mean 920

Correct, I got a 920 and it was easier than the 900 which I found difficult with no experiance.

I have now sold my Axis at good resale, - thanks to reviews by Hilly and others, I've jumped to Armstrong 1550 and 1200..Build quality of the Armstrong is outstanding, I have a 1600 on loan until the 1550 arrives, liked it a lot, lot of lift for my 165# / 76 kg. ..
