Here's a recent one of Mark getting his dock start dialled.
So much harder than it looks, and Mark's not a tiny whippet (90+kg). He's riding the awesome Naish Ascend 4'8" and Thrust Surf XL.
Enjoy,
Ride safe,

At what length of board above 5' would the efficiency of "pumping" be effected, if any
Thanks

Hey Kitenow,
I ride the 5' Ascend, 5'2" and 5'6" Comets. All of these boards with the correct track settings/foil placement pump excellent. I have also had great successes pumping on the Hover 6'0" and 5'6" from 2018 season.
Achieving neutral weighting is in some ways more important than board length. Ideally you do want to go short for pumping to reduce swing weight, but not at the cost of paddle/use - ability.
Good technique is a much bigger part.

JB
Bit of fun today shooting the Pier on my JP 8-6 x 26 -96 litre Sup , plus I've been testing the new Fanatic 1500 Aero Surf Foil. Great fun combo
Foiling in Northern California with Jeff Clark.
I have always been friendly with Jeff but since we began foiling, and few others seem willing to take the plunge, we have become foil amigos.
Now we are trying to keep up with the Australians, or maybe just Piros' gang, Re-Inventing the Party Wave bottom turning around each other.
How many people were u seeing using straps over there vs not Beasho?
Can completely see the value of them....but prefer the feel of no straps myself...

And I guess boots can be a royal pain with straps in these northen waters outside of summer...
How clean were those dock starts and re docking, making something so hard looks so so easy. Matty has been ripping on his new SS gear and that rubber O ring on the rear wing is a good idea. I rode his old Naish set up with a loose back wing and yeah it feels good.
The new Sunovas have very cleverly shaped the bottom of the board with an angled section so your foil sits flat with the deck but the board still has tail rocker. Agree boards are shrinking , 7-6 used to be so short now it's consider too long. I foil with Marcus from Sunova every week so I get try a lot of his boards and some are so tiny 5-4 ,5-10 ect but amazingly even though some are 10 litres or more under my weight I can still paddle and catch waves on them. The board only sinks so far then stops , so basically now you only need 10 or so litres more than your weight and you can even go super narrow like 26 or 7 and you are fine. The foil is your centre board like on a sailing boat. It's actually easier to balance on a foil board with less foam , boards with a lot of excess foam raise your centre of gravity and make it more tippy.

'Rubber o-ring on rear wing'....I may be a bit slow....but please enlighten?
Kai in Hossegor:
If you want to see where the sport is going just follow Kai's feet.
Prone takeoff with Footstraps. No ambiguity there.
Not to mention getting air and doing 360's in small gutless surf.
Super small, windy, onshore and full of seaweed - Still fun through on the Hover 120 Surf and Thrust Surf Large.
Classic Seaweed face plant JB & yeah nice looking board.
Hey Beasho totally hear what you are saying on the straps but 100 % reverse here. What few guys that were using them have taken them off I don't know of anyone using them ( my home town). Prone foiling is really starting to dominate here with really aggressive riding styles and yeah few guys now pulling airs strapless. The one big thing about the straps is rotations but no one here seems into that it's more really aggressive driving turns creating speed , very different lining up to pop airs. We also have some points with super long waves and prone paddling back out on strapped 4 foot boards would be a pain. Very guys pump all the way back out.
The sport just keeps evolving , exciting times.

Reminds me of same evolution kiting with surfboards went through.
Remember when everyone used straps on surfboards and strapless seemed impossible? Who would have thought back then, we would all be strapless in the future and straps would be for kooks.
Breaking free of straps was the HARDEST thing I ever did. I never want to go through that again.
Kai in Hossegor:
Another video of this session (which seemed to be in Seignosse actually, at Les Estagnots)
Note that Kai is using Gong gear! (well only the paddle, I guess borrowed from Justine), Justine however is on the Gong foil.
Went out for a very quick Down Wind Foil this morning before work. I thought it would have been bigger given the southerly all night, but never the less, is was foilable and a little fun. Here's the quick minute insta vid I made up.
Fun quick prone session at Wanda Beach prior to last night ProKite Foil info night. This stretch of beach holds a look excellent opportunity for foiling, I look forward to getting more time there exploring further up towards boat harbour.
Whilst it wasn't the best DW run, it was an eye opener to a future super fun one. This is a lap around Barrenjoey Headland. This is just the 1min vid for instagram, but pretty amazing to get anything from this slop.
Here' roughly my path,
