Heavy, Bumpy, Messy, Rips, Currents and just generally not nice! This pretty much describes the surf yesterday at Foil Bay. But somehow I convinced Casso to take it on, and take it on he did. Casso owned it out there in less than rideable conditions - Awesome effort mate.

Here's a quick edit of how it went down,

Enjoy, Ride safe,

Apologies for not waiting for Beasho / Clay to post this, but its just a total joy to watch Jeff Clark obviously loving carving up a break he's ridden a thousand times. The fact he reminds me of Jello Biafra in this just adds another layer of ace-ness.

Foiling in the sunshine.

Saturday was pristine on the Northern Beaches. Enjoyed some time back on the Thrust Surf Medium and riding the Comet 5'6".

Such a good combo.

Enjoy,

Messing around on a tiny day. 5 sec. SE swell. Amazing I could even get to my feet. Good fun practicing linking up and pumping.

Riding Naish Hover Ascend 5'0" and Thrust Big Wing.

Enjoy,

Great stuff. Love the graphics. Really highlights what's going on. Garmin? It looked like you lasted ~ 1:30 in that first clip.

The peaks and valleys of speed show wave catch vs. pumping. Speeds pumping out were as low as ~ 12 kph or 7 mph. This is pretty low to maintain flight suggesting either technique or low weight or both.

Hey Beasho,

Thanks mate, yes the new GoPro Gauges are awesome. They may chew a little more battery (recording with GPS data), but I love reviewing back what's going on. Yep, about 1.5min and few waves .

The swell was 5 seconds, so super gutless, I'm on Naish's biggest wing and 70cm mast, pretty much being very conscious of efficiency as my speed rarely gets high enough to maintain a good pump speed (I usually find about 25km/h you can pump easily off), some of these I 'am pumping stable at crazy slow speeds which was generally inches from stalling. I have been practicing pumping for a while and would like to say it's "Good Tech" , but I am still getting better also. That's the best part of foiling, always learning something new every session.

Thanks for the props,

Ride safe,

JB

Good one RAL INN. My favourite waves when getting touched by whitewash on a re building wave. Easier on a prone board than SUP to stay on board. But easier on SUP to get up & running if you survive the hit I think. I use SUP only at this stage.
Excellent commentry for beginners.
Nice video.

Of course they are only French waves.
not real Aussie waves.

WARNING - This is a long Video.

DW Foiling Yesterday from Nth Avalon to Sth Newport. Only 3.4km, but a lot of fun. Getting better at staying the in groove. The conditions were super onshore, so a lot of going left. But heaps of fun, wish I did another run. Timing is everything.

Conditions,
- Wind. ENE (65-70) at 12kn (19kn max Gust).
- Swell. ENE (55*). 1.67-2.87m @ 5.5sec.

Gear.
- Naish Hover 135
- Naish Thrust Big Wing.

My GPS crashed for the first part of the run, here's where it started working.
Enjoy,

JB

Nice video JB and good lesson for newbies to learn foil down winding , keep your early runs short it's a hard long learning process. I've been stuck on a couple of 10k plus runs where I could barely foil so paddled most of the way on a 6-8 Sup. It's a real art to pick up the bumps then link them , it looks oh so easy but it is the hardest foil disciple to learn and totally exhausting.

Thanks Piros,

Totally agreed. My heart rate on the second part of this run was nearly half what it was at the beginning (prior to my lightbulb moment), and way under the exertion that I usual have on a DW'er. Getting the timing right is paramount! Ready for Molokai

Had a really fun morning glide at Maroochydore River Mouth during a recent delivery run to the Sunshine Coast.

It's a bit long, but so are the glides

Strongly recommend getting in touch with the Ocean Addicts crew before hitting this location to understand he tides and sand bars.

Enjoy,

Grant 'Twiggy' Baker crushing it on a convertible F-ONE board.

His shortboard skills well exceed his foil skills but when it comes to foiling we're all still just learning.

Some solid carving by Mark McCallum on the Naish Ascend 4'8" and Thrust Surf Medium at Foil Bay.

Awesome edit by OCS Creative - Ollie Sharp.

Remember, don't get too caught up in the big wing.

with good mate Bill Boyum on the Surfski for people who don't know Bill Boiyums brother Mike Boyum discovered Grajagan, Java and the original owners of Bobby's Surf Camp early 70's.

Great video, im always surprised to see how small the boards are that folks are using to SUP-downwind on. Any idea the size of that board?
