The Hero session small format cameras have been canned by GoPro. Is a normal size GoPro too big for the kook hat mounting??

True.... BUT, the Sessions are still available at online retailers if you want the smallest camera....
I love the Sessions5, the one button on/off is simple.

Having said that, you could get the new Hero7.... seems like fricking amazing quality.
Just make sure you get a strong brimmed Kook Hat like my DaKine.
FCS hats I have seen have a very thin brim.... so check whatever hat you are thinking of.
Make sure it fits snugly on your head, to keep a solid filming platform.

Still available at the usual outlets in Melbourne - JB Hifi, Harvey Norman etc. Bought one this week.
Pity I didn't have it last weekend, Rick. The Creek was on fire!

The sessions model cameras are a perfect size to mount on a brim and as STC said, the one button operation is easy to access. I have tried 2 Creatures of Leisure hats (slightly different style) and both have a good solid brim. I have settled for the black one in the photo as I prefer the Velcro back strap. If anyone wants the light coloured one, you can have it. Can even throw in the stainless fasteners....

Not sure how the full sized camera would go but cant imagine there would be too much of a problem.

One query though... the superview mode makes the waves appear much smaller than they are.... anyone tried a different setting? Does it make a difference?

A couple of clips from last night...

Every GoPro setting I have tried makes waves look smaller, the magic of GoPro

The reason I like Superview, is that it shows the entire playing field so the ride is more understandable.
Without the shoulder, board, front and back of the wave, the view is too myopic and loses context.

Your vids did a good job of showing the area around the action and that gives us a better appreciation for what the rides were like. I could see you were ripping on your Allwave!

To give a more accurate size perspective, I will try to show someone near the wave as I turn to take off.

Just attached my Session to an FCS hat - brim feels too floppy, will put up some vid tomorrow of the dawny if I get the chance.

I feel I may be on the hunt for a new surf hat

I stiffened mine with a small but of alloy I had at work. It sits on top out the way. But the fcs is a bit floppy rhe dakine one looks the best.

Thanks Rick,
First time out I accidently used the 'tight' setting... couldn't see a thing!! (and it was the best session of my life!!... true). I will settle for the magic of Go Pro...

The tan Creatures hat shown above is up for a new home if you want to give it a go Souwester... PM an address and I will chuck it in the post.
The black foam is some double sided foam tape I got from Bunnings that I found helps set the base onto the curved brim and stops it rotating.

No idea to be honest. I am just always on youtube and there is a lack of decent sup content.

Do you have a link to your vimeo videos?

I am not sure what you mean by linking, but here is a kookcam video I made, and at the end I think it lets you see the other videos I have made; some kookcam, some helmetcam, and lots of others. I am posting because you said you were happy with bad videos. Or I think you can go to http: //vimeo.com /jasontranter (remove the spaces - if I leave them in it tries to display it as a video) and see them there.

Ehhh your videos are Great CSE!! And for sure that was nearly a barrel!
Do you have a Vimeo Subscription? Maybe that allows you to link and group your vids? I am only using the free version with limited weekly uploads. You don't get much for free.....

Thanks...

You know, I forget whether I paid for my subscription I don't remember paying anything, but due to the nature of my work, I am not 100% sure. But all of my videos are in one place and I do have an upload limit which is way beyond what I actually need.

(I actually took some video yesterday - I will need to look at it and see how it turned out - the weather/conditions were great!)

Souwester, nice first vid!
The only suggestion I have, from a viewer standpoint is lower the camera angle a tad....
You have a lot of sky and not much board.
Easier for us to get the whole action, if the board is actively seen interacting with the wave..
When you have just a little sky, it will pretty much include your board to near your feet.

More!

Yep, we got up close and personal a few times! It was like surfing around witches hats at times. It was a great trip though.

So I gave You Tube a go and created an account....How easy!! And it doesn't look like there is a daily/weekly limit either. Even managed to splice some short vids together... nothing fantastic... except for the weather. Cracker day!

Thanks Tardy, ripping Dude!
I learned a lot from your video!

I am always working on vertical snaps, but I can't seem to get my back foot on the stomper properly.
I can get vertical, but I fail to snap back down most times.
Being old and heavy, I need to ride a 9'4 Acid
If I turn from the stomper, I stall after the turn because my weight is too far back, and I have to move my feet to trim forward.
Your vid shows that you simply need to shift weight from your back foot to your front foot.

also:
1: my front foot is consistently further back than yours... BUT
2: Your back foot is on the stomper.... mine is not.

To widen your stance, you flex your knee sideways, to get your foot all the way back

My back knee (right leg) simply can't handle any lateral pressure (green arrow)
so my stance is too narrow to be on the tail and handle of a 9'4 Acid
(foot outline shows where my back foot ends up)
I guess I need to lose more weight and ride a shorter board

funny .... I have zero problem getting to the stomper on the 14' Search.... and I don't stall.
I think the leverage of all that board in front of me, brings it right back into trim.

found a shot that shows my narrow stance (9'4 Creek)

So Tardy, are you doing the splits or are you bending your knees a lot? How tall are you? I am 6'3 and even on my shorter boards I feel like I am doing the splits if I get my back foot that far back and my front foot so far forward. You sure swing that board around!
