World-renowned big-wave surfer and waterman Laird Hamilton will pay a visit to this year's Port Stephens Country Club Southern Cross SUP Festival which kicks off from May 15- 18.
During the four-day SUP festival, the Hawaiian will do a meet-and-greet - where fans can meet the acclaimed stand-up paddleboarder, - interview with media and be there to support the sport of stand-up paddle.
The reason for Hamilton visiting Port Stephens is to show his Australian followers the latest range of stand-up paddle-boards and accessories from his brand "Laird SUP."
"I'm really looking forward to coming to Australia and show the Australian audience my latest range of stand-up paddle boards and paddles," said Hamilton. "Hopefully, I'll be able to sample some decent waves while I'm there as well."
So...the new Laird boards are only going to be distributed in NSW then?
I guess they only suit NSW conditions.
He should have been here a few days ago - would have been right at home
That's epic
Wishing you the right conditions to match his powerful as did happen when he come to visit my place.

They are actually being distributed out of Perth.
I am sure Laird should come to Perth then ?
Yep WTF!
Try & get to see the boards in perth
good luck.

There are a few shops around Perth that have them and demos as well. Might not be so easy to get the man himself here and if he does, pretty sure he won't be going out at Methams.

Hehehe
having said that, the old 12' Surftech LPA was one of the funnest boards I've surfed on.
So any idea yet what day the meet and greet and the demo's will be on? Port Stephens is a long way out of the way even if you are from Newcastle. Not the kind of trip many people will be able to leave to the last minute.
My first SUP was a Ron House Laird 10' x 27". I still ride her as much as any other board.

Hi Shane,
Laird will be in Sydney from next Wednesday with Media commitments Wed-Fri. He will be at Bondi most probably Thurs and may well even go for a surf there.
Friday arvo he will head up to Shoal Bay, with Sat morning demos in the surf, a luncheon for retailers and then probably present the winners of the marathon race at the presentation.
There is alot jammed into the few days he will be in Oz.
It would have been unreal if he could have extended his stay and done a coastal up or down the coast to meet a few more people, or gone over to WA or QLD, but I hope everyone who wants to meet him gets a chance somewhere.
I can't wait to see him surf

Yep tried Freo & N/Beach , one board each. NO stock.
Shame seeing they are imported through WA & have the best suited condition.

NOT HOSSEGOR, this is Lacanau , 200km up north from Hossegor
IMO, the real thing shown on those pictures is the trimming of the paddle giving more drive, more speed to make up this almost close out wave into a fast barrel.
and he is a nice guy too , signing down Morgan's board.
When I read Laird was coming to Oz on his Facebook page, I decided that I should fly up from Melbourne on Saturday to see the man I have admired for 15 years!
I will be most likely by myself ( unless I can rope my Newcastle based niece and her friend to come along, but being 18 year old girls..their heads could be anywhere).
If anyone spots a 50 year old shy looking chick...that'll be me!
Looking forward to seeing the SUPing too. I have dabbled a bit but still committed to another sport. Maybe this will tip me over the edge?!!
Ok, with dedicated fans coming all the way from Melbourne it would be nice to get a decent idea of Laird's schedule? I.E., times and locations!
Newsflash. I have just been informed by Dylan Henry, a Supfest organiser,
"This Arvo birubi and tomox shoal bay"
Where "This arvo" might be interpreted as after midday today Friday 15th May 2014?
If any QUEENSLANDERS can't get down to Sydney to see laird,, try the next best thing and call into Mac"s shop
