Whos entering this event?Thinking of doing the 10K and sprints.Pity you cant use a unlimited board in the 10K.30K i think is a bit beyond me.
I know about 4 or 5 going in it plus myself. I'll talk to trev or get him to post on here about the event. I too would like to see the 10km have unlimited in there as well, but if there's wind then 30km is not that far.
Jacko
Well that was perfect timing. I have had a few people asking me if they can do the 10km in Unlimited. Then answer is now "YES". The big picture of the event is to get us all together, meeting paddlers from different sports, sitting and listening to some great music, after testing yourself out on the ocean. So, even though the entry forms are currently saying 10km only in stock 12'6", just tick that box and you can mark off at the starting tent as unlimited over the 10km distance. We will also change the entry forms asap, but no probs to fill it out now. With some foresight we would have put it in that way anyway.
Also, a couple of people are going to do the 30km unlimited as a team, you can do this as well,if it appeals more, just get both paddlers to enter the individual and we will mark you off as a team on the day. Of course, you will need a jet ski or boat and support driver to do this.
We have more support and sponsors and prizes coming on each day, so at the moment we can tell you that you will have a great day no matter what and all going to plan possibly take home a nice prize or prizes. THe sooner you register, the better for us as we are wanting to make sure everyone gets their Saltwater Festival Race SInglet and we need to know numbers.
The music lineup is fantastic, the sprints should be a blast and we will make the most of the conditions on offer. I have been over the Brunswick to Salt course and it is fantastic in any south wind, with a great feel on that stretch of coast. If it is north we will start from Currumbin and once again, another great stretch of coast and a little short to cater for a bit of cross tail wobbles at the start.
You can follow start line progress or anything else on www.thesaltwaterfestival.com or email me at trev@thesaltwaterfestival.com
We really want to make this event fell like it is your own and grow it over the next couple of years into something special. So, all are welcome in any way shape or form. Good accom packages at Mantra for Mothers day as well, all on website.
So, please come along with your friends and family and support the event and give us any feedback and any ideas. Also if anyone wants to help out, you can contact me on the email above.
Yours in supping
Trevor Hendy
That's good news, the more the merrier. Jacko and Woogie are doing the 30km as a team as a training run for Molokaii. I know if I wasn't busy running it, I would be into doing it with someone, seems like a fun way to cover 30km.
By the way, we are finishing the Saturday night with the Mason Rack Band. If we get good weather should be a rocking finish out on the grass.
Yes guys, you can change from 30km to 10km on the day. No problems you just have to let us know when you check in, preferably at Briefing (details Below)
The race start/direction will be finalised at 5pm on the friday, after looking at the latest weather and published on the website and sms'd to anyone who has entered.
We will have a briefing in front of the Salt Bar at 9am on the Saturday morning, you can pick up your competitors pack here or at Race check in. Briefing is not compulsory, but a good idea.
Race check in will happen at the various start lines and you will be numbered etc. We will also publish on the website a competitors hot line, as we get closer....
Really looking forward to having you guys there. Bring your dancing shoes....
Cheers, Trev
Good question....12'6" and under stock boards in 4km. Start will be dependent on conditions, if small and clean enough will start and go through break, otherwise out back..
There will definitely be an element of suck it and see, as we are racing OC1's as well, so there may be a few races starting out the back.
Crossing fingers for a small swell, clean light wind in morning and moderate tail wind by early afternoon. Do you think I am asking too much, haha?
Sprint races on Sunday will be through break if possible or out back in moderate, moved to Kingscliff in large swell. Then Super sprint eliminator will involve all the craft in one race, should be great to watch.
Trev
Trev it's pretty heavy on the beach breaks right now at Salt.... lucky it's not this weekend The super eliminator sounds like fun...lets see what Huey throws at us in a weeksee you there regardless.
Rob
Yes, will be good to see you Rob,
Definitely this swell snuck in bigger than thought, hoping it is just the storm before the calm, then again, be fun catching something decent in after the marathon and then racing short stuff around at Kingscliff on the Sunday could be memorable too... imagine standing at the back of a 17 footer coming down the front of a 5 foot bomb at Salt...for the win.... could be priceless!
Yes, let's see what Huey brings us, needless to say, I am waiting for the first glimmer of Seabreeze's report for next Saturday.
See you there mate...
Just had a look at windguru so fare it saying South winds at 15 knots with a south swell. So its looking good so fare as they say finger crossed.
DW
Yes, I had a look over the Brunswick to Salt course yesterday, by midday it was good runners up the coast, looked fantastic. That predicted wind would be a little stronger than yesterday and could make it a lot of fun.. so far so good, as you say fingers crossed....
Hey Trev, yesterday Hastings to Salt was unreal in the arv, esp from Caba onwards, runners galore. Getting in was, as usual, interesting though.....there are going to be some death or glory moments on the unlimited boards for sure if it's similar conditions on Sat. Should be tons of fun, can't wait.
Thank you Jed, that is hilarious and quite true... death or glory.... go the glory..... you will get bragging rights for glory, but probably not time deduction should things turn out crap.... I am all for the glory, last longer than a PB time.
Trev
Conditions looking great, fun, fun, fun. have heard some good stories from the course in the last week...
Trev you look like you have totally nailed it on choice of date for the festival. Waves were pumping off their brain down on the Tweed this morning. And by 10am the sou'easter was absolutely primo for downwinding. Sat forecast is for exactly the same. Sunny day, warm water, the whole rabbit pie. Saltwater is going to rock.
Yeah stoked too. Wind is getting more perfect by the day. had a quick kitesurf today and it had that pick you up and take you for a ride feeling, wasn't hard work at all, be awesome on the sup.....
Looks like a good grudge match between the board paddlers, oc1"s, suppers and ski's for line honours. There are some fantastic paddlers in all the divisions....
Will be such a blessing if it stays this way. Rambo is filming so will have a great highlight package and will look magic with shots of the sups flying down open ocean waves.
Anyone else who wants to register can do so
3-5pm Friday in front of Salt Bar
8-9am Saturday in front of Salt Bar

everyone whos entering gearing up for a fun day , im preparing with a few beers and a merlins pizza.Who do you think will take it out?
[looks like it will be cooking and decent size surf to get in.i piked it on my flatwater board- too windy, too big for me on that board. went and did a snapper/alley run which was good fun. they should do a good time if the wind swings around a bit. it will be very dicey getting in, watched some shortboards going over the falls
cheers
I hope the board doesen"t cost to much to fix.
