Well I think I can Qualify as a bit of a kook. I have been flat water paddling my 8'10" Speeed on English bay the last two days here in Vancouver. Two days ago a mill pond and paddled for two hours over to Stanley park and then back to my home in Kits. Beautiful. Yesterday it was blowing 20 knots from the West. I have never downwinded but what the heck. My wife drove me west out near the university and I launched on a rocky beach. Fell in 5 or 6 times right away and then got my legs under me. It took about 90 minutes to blow back home. Managed to get good rides on four waves. The rest of the time just trying to stay upright. I was the only one out there with a paddle that I could see. I will definitely do this again! The kite boarders were ripping. Headed over to Tofino to surf tomorrow.
Bob
Road trippin' won me a session this morning
Only 1 guy trying SUP foil for the 1st time.... he stayed inside shoulder (pic)... did ok, he flew a couple!
I had the outside peak all to myself for 2 hours....awesome!
STC,
with a 4/3 wetsuit labelled "Cyclone" and those gloves on, you probably could have had the entire east coast!
Half Moon Bay and north after work yesterday.
Even had Helmy along for company, and ran in to Kel.
Beers on the sea wall afterwards as the sun set.
Ventnor this afternoon.
Paddled to Grossard Point in search of non existent waves.
Great paddle though.
Yesterday "the rock" halfway tween sponge bay and tuamotu island. Lumpy and bumpy and unpredictable.....but 15 to 20 foot faces that were very fun if you caught the right one.
Looked at town beach today on the E bike with my dog........"don't swim.....polluted water" signs up for a second week.
Was okay at makorori though
Had a crack at a metro reefy this morning, was a little slow with a largish friendly crew on the peak and a borderline strong offshore breeze, with the size of my board, beginners ability and will to maintain etiquette I didn't really jag many waves but thats cool with me.
Water was nice and still had a good paddle, kicking myself for not chucking the mal on the roof, some nice little waves rolling through.
Had a go at backhand on a few - man I need some more practice with that, struggled on the approach.
Great morning session at Simzies Reef Sanur with only 1 other out on my sweet C4 Waterman Turbo Spud 8'4 x 28.8"
Town beach.......quite pleasantly small but with bigger sets upsetting the apple cart
No wind and quite glassy
Four people out.......and one of them a "i have never been surfing before" person......visitor from France I took to beach.
And then the "surfing waka" people came catching waves amongst us in a mellow fashion
Was fun
did have one of the outrigger wakas heading straight towards to me at one point.........had a "shall i paddle to the left....or the right" moment
