Hey dogman

I went out and bought a laguna bay surftech 8'6 after borrowing the one out of your trailer late last year. Usually after I get a new board it takes about 2 months before I start planning the next one, but this time I'm absolutely stoked with my board. I weigh 90-95 kegs and it can be an absolute bitch to stand on if there is any backwash or chop, but worst case you fall off and then get back on again. There's nothing wrong with getting wet especially when your board surfs as well as the 8'6 does.

I love the fact that there is a bit of volume in the nose, but I would definitely want to demo a similar board with more of a shortboard style pulled in nose.

At 27 3/4 wide my surftech was fairly unstable at first but your balance soon gets better.

I recon you should stick to your guns and go for high performance. There are plenty of boards out there that are stable and user friendly and it seams with now with the carbon models they are now getting pretty light to.

Thanks for letting me demo the board from your surftech trailer. I for one am looking forward to surfing on one from you range.

Justin

good to here justin

ill be back down that way soon with the surftech sup circus demoing up a storm

im injured so I'm only riding the tankers ATM

so you can demo everything in my short style range I've got..... you may want to go to jenny craig and drop 5kg in the next month or you'll be drowning on my 7'10......hahahaha....like i do

Just call your short and narrower SUP, RAS for " rowing assisted surboard", or SAP "Surboard addicted paddling". these ways there is no more misanderstood...

If it is glassy and not choppy (especially in the summer NE'rs) then maybe I'd be ok on the 8'6". Any chance of a board at about 28 and a half?

But Redfezz, as you say these could be purely for the hard core/pro level SUPers.

Ben,
You hit the nail on the head, when is it ever not windy on the south coast of NSW ?. The tides ,swell and wind aline ,a couple times a yr, its not like we get trade winds for 6 months then travel to the other side of the island for the next six months. Unless you have a quiver of several boards ,The average SUPer sacrifices performance for versatility .
I myself am looking to upgrade and I,m in two minds get the board that I know I can surf well or get a larger board in the same model that has a bit more stability and can handle the chop better.I talking about the Hokua 9.5 vs 9.10 ,I know I could do the 9.5 or even 9 ft but it would be hard work and not enjoyable.
So it just depends what market Tha Dogman is aiming for.........by the sounds of it very elite performance end of market.
cheers
Red

hi red

your right...

with all the boards out there getting around in the 9 to 10ft range it would be hard to crack the stereotypical brands like naish starboard or fanatic and be able to compete

that is where 95% of the surf style board sales are....true!!!!!!!

looking at it from the outside I'm sort of aiming towards a more "elite" market, as you could put it but also trying to step over and create an overlap into "that other" market via scaling up into the super sizes 9'3, 9'6 but still having the same rocker, outline shape and concaves as my weapons of mass destruction have.

first thing i gotta do is save up my little lunch money... to buy a sh1t load of blanks to make sure most of these size options actually work...

anyone got any ideas on making a body suit for 30kg or so

need it to put on and test out the 120kg+ 9'6 x 30 titanic model

maybe a sumo suit filled with concrete

it was called "The Atomic Virgin Converter",Because it ficked everything first time.
That would explain your sudden hair loss.

insane boards kami

mate I've just got off a long winded phone call with tully frothing about your channel bottom sups......him and his old man are toying with some crazy mutant shortboard with a similar headspace ATM......classic

my current headspace is leaning towards going with a featherweight, middleweight and heavyweight option on the current shape I'm riding.

next question is "how to pigeonhole" the target weight divisions???????

exibit A
feather weight max 75-80kg 85L 8'0 x 27
middle weight max 85-90kg 95L 8'6 x 27
heavy weight max 110-115kg 125L 8'10 x 31

the max weight is around the point it will be nearly impossible to paddle it without a snorkel n goggles (so any thing under those weights will be fine) with good balance)

ur dreamin dog. from my point of view ... 6'3 and 96kg and reasonably competant... i can only just stand on 112l in perfect conditions.. so i think you may need to inflate ur heavy weight literage and width.

my ideal is about 8'6-8'10 about 29.5 - 30 wide and about 120l MIN

Hey dogman,

Start at 8'0" go up by 6" increments to 10'0".

Got tail whipped by a whaler or bull at greenies last week.

Like to catch up for a session at minnie or where ever. Keala is in market for fly weight wave board.

Ps Dogman,

exibit A
feather weight max 75-80kg 85L 8'0 x 27
middle weight max 85-90kg 95L 8'6 x 27
heavy weight max 110-115kg 125L 8'10 x 31

This is bit optomistic for your average punter. Add 10 l of vol to each. I am 93 Kg and 110-120L is good for 8'6"

Okay Kami,I'll say something that's as close the subject of the topic as I dare to go.
Have you seen any vids of the Dogman Sup surfing? If you haven't,from what I've seen he does it pretty well.

He doesn't look like a skinny dude but that doesn't stop him from paddling around standing up and shredding the kilt out of waves on what you referred to as a
"RAS rowing assisted surboard", or SAP "Surboard addicted paddling".
(If that is supposed to be a joke please use a smiley face at the end of the sentence, thats what they're for.Because I think I may have misanderstood you.)

I guessing that he probably rides the boards he does because it enables him to do the kind of surfing he so desires in his minds eye.
Which I believe is high performance.
SUP surfing is about surfing a wave(hence the surfing part). If there is a trade off to be made to necessitate a better Sup "surfboard" then whatever it is,do it.
You don't get high performance from something without pushing the boundaries of design. So I think making a board designed for Joe Blogg thats in the middle of the road isn't doing "High Performance" any justice.
He may as well call it the "Joe Blogg Cat Funt Model"
I believe the Dogmans designs are on the right track.I going to trust that he knows what he's doing.

If you're worried that the board won't float you or be unstable when you're not on a wave, then get your priorities right.
1st:Loose some weight ya cat funt!
Imagine all the extra activities you could accomplish.
2nd:Practise,when practising you will gradually surf better because you are no-longer riding a cruise liner.

Sorry if I have offended anybody with my "cat funt" remake.
That was not my intention, for I am also a cat funt, but trapped in a ckin sunts body.
Plus it's Kami's fault for wanting me to stick to the topic
Good day...

Good day...

This is good to see you sticking to the Dogman topic. Merci.
Also, I have to clean my act when I talk about SAP or RAS :
I was not unfair about Dogman s'dimension boards but defenitively addict of his hard core SUP. My "inner secret" would be to see calling these narrow and light buoyant stand up paddling surfboards with an other term than SUP. This is not a joke

For info I spent last summer testing what i call "****ing board " because it's a mix of SUP with the rear made of parts of bodyboard. Dimensions: 6'9" 28" 85litres, I'm 76kg , the board 5kg. This flextail works unreal, last sessions I had was one the best in 1 to 3 feet, ever on 45 years of surfing.

Definively closer of a surboard than a SUP, n 'est ce pas?

Oui, c'est ça. Maybe you, nitehawk and me could have a surf together sometime. Would love
to see if one of your shapes would float me.

Nitehawk, yours is probably too small for me because even after some serious poodle frothing,
my collection of cruise liners are the only vessels I've found to support my non-primal carcass in
it's search of sup fun. Weakness for beignets I guess.
