G'Day

Getting pumped looking at my tickets to go to Bali at the end of the month and started looking down the page and noticed they are saying a 6'3" size limit for surfboards. WTF??

Ive travelled over there nearly 30 times and never with a board under 6'6" and my wife took her 8'0" year before last and that was with Jetstar and on an A320 also. Given all mine and the Mrs boards are over 6'3" this could be tragic!!!

Should i be concerned? As anyone gone via Jetstar with a decent sized board and had any issues?

Cheers

It depends on what planes they are on as Jet Star like to put everything into these large containers. I flew Air Asia out of Perth the other month with 2 guns and shortie in a 7'2" bag no worries.

Might be best to ask in the shortboard room - lots of WA types in there.

I will check with a mate of mine who he flew with recently.

More importantly where will you be when over there and when exactly? I am always keen to catch up with a Breezer for a beer or a surf if it works out. Had beers with Tux, Mick and Mac over the last few months in Bali I am there every few weeks these days.

Yeh im heading over at the end of the month from Townsville and I am going to hire. Fine print when booking stated on the a320 the limit was what you stated.
PLs prove me wrong, don't really want to hire.

Cheers Ted

A320, But Air Asia use those as well never had that problem. Last time we flew Jetstart on a A320 no problem. We'll see what happens.

I hit the Island of the Gods 24th Sept. Up at Balian for a week, then Balangan for a week then over to Nusa Lembongan for a week. will definately be in for a Bintang and a barrel if it works out.

I only ever fly with Garuda. 30kg baggage, never a prob or extra charge for 3 boards & they serve bintang beers onboard. I've even taken a LB once. Pain in the ass, but totally possible. Personally I'd rent a longboard in Bali next time if I needed one. Heaps of boards for rent on Nusa Lembongan too.

I took my 10 foot log over to Bali on Virgin - and it made it safely. It did not make its final destination - that involved along car ride and two ferry rides as the domestic flights could not deal with the length

Right fellow Balianians, which of you lot are travelling with young kids?
Thinking of going a babi guling across the river one night and as much as my two are complete gannets, a whole pig is beyond even their consumptive capabilities. It'd need to be ordered a day or two in advance I'd think.
Anyone keen on a pig out?

If you want to feed around 12 people for a pig about 20kg you'll pay 1,000,000rp but you can do small portions for around 80,000 meal size, its really fatty and nothing like pork as we know it,does taste good though, hope Balian turns on waves for you,I was there last october and had great waves and good arvo winds for kiting, sure beats the hell out of hanging around kuta legian area,if you want a good day trip head north and snorkel manganan Island Marine reserve its unreal

Thanks Ricardo, maybe a 20kilo pig is a bit of a pipe dream, unless as you say we can drum up a few more crew. Plate option may be the go.
I was there Oct/Nov last year too, scored great waves. Makes such a difference staying there rather than doing day trips, I had it to myself most mornings for at least 45mins and was out of the water knackered by 9:30 after a four hour sesh, just as the hordes descend. I'd sworn off Bali years ago and only went there after crapstar cancelled all flights to Lombok. Last time I'd been to Balian had been 20 years previous and the wave didn't really float my boat. But then Ketut's didn't exist 20 years ago either.

Ted we arrive in Balian the afternoon of the 27 September and leave the 8th, you'd be more than welcome to spend a night with us, there's plenty of room. Then we can have a feed and bevvies and wash off the cobwebs with a dawnie.

Hi Smicko, I am travelling with a 18 year old grom but unfortunately cant do Tuesday night, can socialize and drink pissssss any night from the 30.9. Hey Ricardo should I take my 12 meter kite

massey fergusan definitely take your 12,if its blowing hard you can always adjust pigtail settings and depower a bit,if you kite unstrapped just take your normal surf board with kite ,lines and harness so you're not lugging a dedicated kite board unless you have room for it or your normal board is a 9'mal.When I was there in october the sea breeze came up about 8/10 days at around 12-1pm and was easily 20-25kn cross on,great place to kite the lefts there,I reckon the best food is the little warung on the beach in front of the lefts and the beer is cold.Have a great trip
