Greetings gents picked up this bad boy yesterday.
it may not be a purists board but by all accounts this go like a rocket .... Have not ridden yet, normally I'm buying short boards these longboard things are hefty on the old wallet.

it all started with a 94 of gumtree a SEL I bought it thinking yeah I'll ride it now and than, I can now get up on the nose (no style yet) and I have ridden it probably as much as my shortie over last 2 months.

so I dropped the hammer and went out and got myself something that I can turn yet still get longboard glide on.

fin set up is controversial I got a thruster set and some rear quads to try out but I think I'm going to buy 8 or 9 inch for the middle box with flyers like a 2+1

this is the hihp model and apparently it is the newer construction stronger???! ( no idea it's all jargon)

i looked at at a few and this is the one at first glance that caught my eye, I reckon it could go in a barrel and I like the pulled in tail.
other than that no specific reason I chose tolhurst or this model.

there was a 94 bear their as well that got a close run but it was more a nose rider like what I already have

Love those Tolhurst shapes. That looks like a beauty. Nice pick up.
(They sure work for Harley Ingleby )

Farking sexy as board mate, looks like it will go great

I think I may have seen that one myself. I've been looking for a 6'5 to 6'8 Indo gun over the last week.

Consider Surf Eclipse on Ebay if your just chasing a centre fin to use with fins you already have
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/surfeclipse/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

Or www.shapers.com.au/2-1-set-ups/
If your looking to buy 2 + 1

I'd recommend these www.shapers.com.au/carbon-flare-performance-1/
Smaller fins are better for those coming from a shortboarding background in my opinion.

What sort of dimensions you after? I have a few that would might fit the bill fit the bill. Yahoos and AL Beans. Most do 4-6 a treat down here, and will hold 8 if you can paddle yourself onto them. Solid Bears no worries, EB Bombie at the same size, no chance (at least for me). Those sort of boards.

I'm thinking a compromise between length & volume. About 31L epoxy or 34L PU

Length 6'6 to 6'8
Width 18.5 to 19
thickness about 2.5 or just over

Rounded Pin, pretty much what most of my boards were up until the last 5 or 6 years.
My old Rick Jacko is a pretty good example of the outline I'm chasing although has more rocker than I want. Want like conservative to late rocker in the nose, typical single to double concave & sharp rails from mid to rear of the board without getting to narrow.

It would be for consistent double to over double sucky waves.

Currently considering a couple of boards, but waiting for something else to happen first that I'll mention once sorted...cheers m8

Example Outline

6'6"x18 3/4 x 2 5/8 are the dimensions for a couple of them. All rounded pins. A variety of bottoms. Reverse vee works really well in those sort of waves too. Anyway, let me know if you lose interest in the others and we can organise a test ride one weekend maybe?

That thing happened today that was effecting my board choice. I only had one heady duty 6'6 double board bag. Today I picked up a triple heavy duty board bag, length 7 foot. So I can now go 6'8 or a bit longer no worries

Bloke also had an old but in good condition apart from a bit of yellowing 6'8 PU Yahoo by about 19 & 2.5...In no hurry what so ever for a gun thoug, just need it by about May.

LOL...I've had a 6'11, 7 & 7'2 before also but this was what I was talking about compromising between volume & length. Finding that sweet spot of not having too much volume to escape situations via duckdiving, but having some ability to not be free falling on the take off all the time

I find shorter boards to be easier to recover from late take offs on bigger waves, I think 6'8 by about 19 is about my sweetspot...I'm not planning on surfing mavericks mate lol...just want something longer for when its over double head. Other boards on a future trip the new boards accompanying will probably be 6'2 & 6'4.

Saw this in the local. Beautiful board. 9 footer.

It scares me to think of needing this as Kirra.

Scorpion II - Looks like it'll be a fun board, Wish it had the option to run it as a quad too but I'll mostly run it as a single fin I think.

Nice, I thought it looked more like this one with those model logos on the nose.

www.surfboardsbydonaldtakayama.com/surfboards/mid-length/nr3/

i wouldn't be to worried about the 2+1 fin setup. It gives you plenty of options anyway.

Personally i don't like that size boards as a quad. i prefer a 2+1. Little sides bites and a flexy center fin.

Great board anyway, The egg shape is about the most versatile surfboard there is.

Not technically a 'longboard', but I received a photo today of my 7ft chambered board taking shape. I'm excited...
