This was probably the one he's thinking of. Ford didn't make to many of them and they're as rare at rock'n ors these days.

I'll never forget them because I recall how good they looked all jacked up when I saw them at the Royal Easter show, and a mate of mine seriously was about to buy one back in 73.

Geez, this is ironic,we are talking about these on another forum as well on the same dayYeah ob,Ford didn't do many because the Army pulled the plug on em,so Ford sold them off, apparently a couple of hundred of the bodies of these set to become 4x4's just sat dormant for years

I knew a bloke who made his own. Out of an XB Wagon! He had an MQ Patrol LWB with a body that you could poke your fist through, and an XB Wagon with a toasted engine and gearbox. Over the space of three weeks in his Caltex at St Ives in Sydney he transplanted the XB wagon body on to the Patrol chassis. Somehow made it through certification and got it registered. Soon after Caltex kicked him out and it became a Star mart, so not sure what happened after that, but it was unique.
Brian at Land Rover Spares in Greenacre did similar with a Holden 1 tonner, but he spliced a Range Rover chassis into it. Best thing about Brian was he had only one leg, used to use a 12 gallon drum to kneel on with his one good leg, or actually lie across the engine bay to work on the Landies....
Can't do any of that any more the Aust Design Rules have all but quashed any legal customising and splicing of cars or bikes for that matter.

Yeah MR,good story mate. There has been a lot of that over the years with Holdens and Fords, they reckon the Patrol chassis are the go if you can do it.I think you can do just about any modification these days but you have to have it inspected and approved by a licensed engineer, years ago ya didn't have to worry about thatIt costs about 2 grand and the engineer has the car for the day.My mate here has put a 350 chev in his HR Holden and it's just passed by the local engineer here, they don't miss anything,haha!...

Those engineers can be really hard asss. One of our Buick Club members imported a 1986 Riviera LHD from the states. When he went to get it blue slipped, it was knocked back because it didn't have a child safety seat anchor point in the rear parcel shelf. The bloke had no grandkids, and he wouldn't have put them in the car anyway, and he was in his 70s. Sadly he's passed on, but he had to pay a body builder to engineer a set of struts under the parcel shelf, then have the anchor fitted through the shelf and then have it certified. Cost him almost $6k.... for a $15k car. To some of us it looked like the engineer was just out for the $$.

Oh sure that sounds like a blatant cash grab, bloody mongrel. We have a good one here he goes by the book for sure but doesn't rip anybody off. He's Elvis from Rod Bods, makes fibreglass hot rod bodies and engineers them for a living and has been for years, you've probably heard of him, good bloke.
