Geez look at em all shame most of em ended up as pet food cans
haha yeah mate,I love that 58 Chevy Impala convertible in the foreground, looks a bit like the one someone gave me but in black and a tad smaller
Oh wow, just managed to attach my first photo on Seabreeze!
And it's a goody if not the right way round?
Saw it in a barn in northern Vicki last weekend, true.
How odd it that, there's probably 100 cars on that beach, I can easily see that none of the first 40 are 4WDs, and there's a good chance that none of the others are either.
The pic looks to be around 1970
What percentage, do you reckon would be 2WDs if that pic was taken today

I think it looks like Boat Harbour, north of Cronulla. Though I could be wrong.... The road entrance was almost next to the Kurnell Oil refinery. From memory, there was a hard packed track down to the rocky section of the beach at the northern end. It was turned into a 4WD park sometime in the mid 80s I think. Last time I went in my Landy about 30 years ago, you didn't need 4WD, but I think they probably had to limit it to 4WD due to the fact most of the more modern cars weren't nearly as adept at getting through sand as the ones shown. That pic looks like mid 1970s.
Used to go there on my dirt bike as well, can still taste the sand

Long Beach just north of Robe, South Australia - over here for a week at the moment.
Photo is front inner cover in a book at the apartment we are in - "The Story of Robe"
That's a bloody beauty pic Nozz, you can see that Holden had the market sewn up back then.I'm surprised they got that far on the beach without getting bogged.I can see a brown HT Holden in the foreground which is a late 69 early 70 model and it doesn't look brand new,I'de say the pic is circa 1973
Geez how's the Hillman Humber about 7 deep - few Valburys in amongst it all too , beach full of Oz classics Nozza
Wife had actually opened the book and got past the front cover.
These two inside are captioned "Long Beach, c. 1970", but I agree with Al, would seem to be a couple of years later.
Top one looks like the same photo.
Unless that person with the sun umbrella went there a lot.
I went down at the north end of the beach today - certainly wasn't venturing far in the 2wd Kombi with no one around.
Maybe people were braver in the olden days....
and de-gassing the tyres to almost flat helped that caper or simply driving closer to the drink on the firmer stuff

This is me standing corrected Nozza, but bluddy hell, it looks a lot like Boat Harbour.... Those were the days eh, drive on to the beach, hang out for the day and just chill with your mates.... looks like it was a great place to be.

Yeah MR,used to love those days to mate, not a care in the world as long as ya had your old car, mates, board and waves all weekend
Found the access ramp to Long Beach today.
Not going to attempt the chopped up sand in the front wheel drive Kombi, but would have been OK along the tide line.
But beach driving still alive and well here.
I can think of nothing better than coming back with a 4wd, heading up the beach a km or two, and staying for the day.
Next year.
