Not sure Mac, but when OB called me on Saturday from Woopi, I could hear some kind of slurping going on...... I spoke to OB for a bit, then Vanders for a bit, but the slurping, whilst changing in tempo continued. Interestingly, whilst one was talking, the other never said a word.... it a like a ventriloquist, you know?

I first thought it was the other one chugging on a beer, then I thought, it was too rhythmical for that. I then thought it might be the curry, you know how sometimes its a bit wet, and needs a bit of a slurp? But that would have meant who ever was eating was eating curry the same way, and at the same tempo as I've seen people in movies.......... that I don't watch that often....... doing things to each other that..... well, you get the picture? Then I thought, wait, Vanders is a nice guy, he's easy going and I doubt would let himself get into a situation like that, he would have politely declined the request and left it at that and gone on regaling stories of how his car was stolen at Byron and how he caught a wave from Snapper to Greenmount flags.

Then I thought, wait..... OB IS that kind of guy and he probably drugged Vanders and made him do things a good forum like this shouldn't think of.... I mean, they went out in on shore winds, in sloppy surf.... I never do that, unless OB talks me into it... if you see what I mean, although he's never drugged me...... that I know of. Although I do remember some strange conversation I had with him once about this bloke he knew that looked like me......

I haven't heard from OB yet either, so I reckon they've gone to ground to elope.......... ahem.... perhaps looking for a last wave before parting ways..... such sweet sorrow..... All I can say is, I never want to hear that noise again, at least not from two grown men..... but wait, something's coming back to me....... was it PP 2012, I wondered why I slept so well............ OB!!! You bastard................

Haha! Good to see you're back on the air mate, looking forward to hearing more about it on the weekend....

I'll have to get the bride to stop arranging things when I want to go on a road trip

Now you're really in trouble, she's been as crook as Rookwood all weekend with the flu and throwing up, once agin, justice it served.

See where your dirty mind goes OB! I only called her up to see if she was lonely, she told me nothing can compare to you and that I should fark off. Tell her I said I hope she gets better soon.

One of the interesting things about the weekend was how similar our boards were in terms of what they could and could not do. I'm talking about Vs green and white 10' and my yellow 10'2".

We both ordered boards from different shapers but we both asked for the same thing first and foremost, they must catch waves, and that's what we got, but along with that, we both realised that we got compromises in other areas.

V knew he could not get the nose to hold him out of the water and mine was the same, so he said try mine and i did, sure enough, the distance I could safely travel towards the nose, was identical to mine, I'm talking Millimetre perfect.

Now I know mine is classed as an all rounded, but it seriously lacks the ability for anyone of even moderate ability over 90 kg to spend anything less than a nano second on the tip.

But then, over the weekend I tried as hard as possible to only ride the nose rider, no matter what the surf was like and that means I suffered when I got on anything with a bit size unless I was paddling at a very big angle, if I was too straight or it was a late takeoff, she would just not handle the drop.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as an all rounder, when we talked to RG he said it was kinda, sorta possible but he said it would always be one way of the other to some degree.

There is no way Scotty will be reading the last few pages of this thread

Allrounders - something I have been eternally searching for in my shorties as well ob and its almost impossible. I seem to have found a board at the moment that gives me a really nice wave range but its certainly not a one board for all conditions. I tried to build an all rounder mal and it performs more than adequately at most things but not overly brilliant at anything if I was really honest. I am happy with it though - serves its purpose well. I really don't want to have to have 3 mals and numerous short boards. So annoying !! !! But also so nice to have the variety at your disposal.

I find I surf one shortie 80% of the time so I am happy with that scenario. When its big and chunky you know well in advance so I can pack that board in the car as well. Its when its small to marginal that I have the biggest problems with which board(s) should be in the car. But my biggest annoyance is not having the right board when I head away - nothing more annoying. I have been doing a lot more travel with work lately and only taking one board is the much preferred option.

Is Vanders in rehab, not spotted since leaving PP.

when you roll up to the infectious diseases department with a full body rash they put you in quarantine.

they tend to isolate you and im guessing they took his mobile, checked who he has been in contact with over the last 48 hrs and then incinerated the offending mobile phone.

probably sharing the same cage area with 3 rabid dogs is my guess.

im sure he'll give them the slip and post some photos soon- hope fully not of rabid dogs although some of the crew he hung out with it would be hard to tell the difference

Scotty will hate this one, then again, he won't read read it so it don't matter

I'm still not home yet, still a few hours away but I've had a great adventure because I've taken the long way back, first stop Scott's head, smooth but flat, second stop, Port Macquarie, lumpy and small, third stop was supposed to be old bar but I was busy on the phone and missed the turn off.

So I decided to go home via The Lakes Way, I have not been along it for years and besides, that section of 110 klik highway between Taree and Bulladelah is as boring bat sh!t.

Pretty little town foster, but once again, no surf and by now I was getting desperate scanning the distant southern vistas for big head lands and the chance of a protected northern corner, but it was fun just tying.

Then as I drove through the industrial estate to get back to The Lakes Way I spotted a surf shop with a legendary name on it "Bob Brown", so I pulled in for a look and ended up having a nice chat with him for a bit.

He hade some killer looking LBs there but you can tell he really knows his way around a gun, wood or polly, they were magnificent, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

After that, things really did start to pick up for me, driving south I spotted a sign saying "Boomerang Beach" and it looked like it would be behind a pretty decent sized headland and when I got there, it was surfable, but just. Went out with the expectation that three would be my limit, I stopped counting when I got to half a dozen. Not great, but I was in the water with a really friendly young local lady with an effervescent smile and a charming personality and it was just a joy to be out of the car and in the water.

Then back in the car to finish the drive along The Lakes Way and best of all, it was the part along Smiths Lake which is one of the really good drives in Northern NSW, and because it was late afternoon, this light danced through every bit of countryside and and silver lake top.

Double bonus, the local Fm station was doing it's regular 6 o'clock rock and roll broadcast so I had The Big O, Richie Vallens, Elvis, Little Anthony & The imperials, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee and a host of others with me in the car the whole way.

I was able to remember just how good Jonny really was and how the ladies were all hound dogs that made me not not not responsible when they had kisses sweeter than wine and they gave me great balls of fire.

I've got to go to work tomorrow

Only one low point, when I got home I was in a desperate hurry to unload and I perched the open esky precariously on the edge of a table while I threw gear into the house via the garage door.

Sure enough, the second item was a pillow and it hit the esky, sent it tumbling and I count myself lucky that only one of the beers broke, so it looks like I'll be changing some carpet tiles tomorrow night.

Actually , I kinda like the smell

Yes it is LL. And its nice that its only 2hrs up the road from here We spend a lot of our free time up that way. Some great waves and beautiful coastline as you have alerted to. A couple of the beachies up that way have some of the most consistent sand of any place I have ever been. I have a work colleague who lives in Foster so its never a problem catching up with him. Its a shame that this place is so popular these days

Here are a few shots from a recent trip up that way.

I guess that's got a lot to do with the fact that Vanders is just happy to be in the water and we never gave up on hunting down waves
