So new 2nd hand Webber Double Diamond in, CJet sold.

I had a few hours to compare shapes, comments as follows.

Outline - Near identical, difference is that Diamond had a diamond tail. CJet square.

Rocker - Diamond has more rocker, progressive along full length. CJet has nose and tail lift and the s flatter and n the middle.

Foam - Webber is EPS, distribution is fairly uniformed, thinner tail and nose, 46L. CJet 52L.

Rails - thickness almost identical. Diamond harder to about 1/3 of tail. CJet to about 1/5.

Fin locations - Near identical, Diamond slightly forward.

Width - nose near identical, mid near identical. Diamond tail wider.

Bottom - Diamond pronounced concave to double with been. CJet concave through to flat and the to double shallow channel.

Weight - Diamond almost 1 kg less. Glass job does not feel as good as the CJet. .ore depressions on deck and feels softer.

So it will be interesting to see the performance difference between them.

To my mind the CJet was made better, but the Webber should perform better due to weight difference and features.

Made better? How so?

BTW one made in China, the other in Thailand.

Both are factory pop outs.

Yeah the Webber is significantly lighter.

Weighs less than my old Egan 6' single fin. And even less than my old Egan 5'11 thruster.

Be interesting to see how she feels under foot.

Hopefully my Sanctum large flex twins will be here soon.

If you have a set of quad fins to use in the Webber they would be good. The flex twins may get "interesting" even with trailers when its bigger.
Don't forget the double diamond is a small-medium wave design.

Not to worry, we don't get much of anything above medium around Perth Metro area.

Down south would be interesting, but I doubt I would hit Marg's with it and my current fitless levels.

Maybe Yallingup or around at Smiths or Tombstones if those are outta my league.

Nah not complicated, I'm just old school dump to the changes that have taken place.

Quick study so I should be ok now.

Been pawing over this board today, trying to get my head around if the slight difference in weight as well as some "minor" geometry differences and the more progressive rocker will make a big difference in performance compared to the Cjet?

I know the weight will make it easier to flip it around in softer weaker waves, but am wondering if the other design features will make a big difference in more powerful waves?

From an engineering perspective small design changes to hydrodynamic equipment that I design and build can make a vast difference in the overall performance outcomes. But we are talking things that have a velocity range up to 40 m/s, so small changes are very much accentuated at higher velocity and can ^3 the power used, or in other words really affect the overall efficiency of the design.

But surfboards are not travelling at these velocities, unless they are being ridden as a tow in on giant waves, and even then it would be unlikely to hit above 20m/s.

Anyhow need to stop thinking and just go ride it and see, Thursday is looking the most promising as long as my fins arrive.

I stick with FCS 1 plugs, why because I love my side bites.
My board maker moved onto FCS 2 plugs sometime ago, its fantastic being able to order a real custom board from one of the bigger companies and being able to both choice fin plug set ups and board design, unlike the pop shops

With Love

You know that has a time line.
At some stage you wont be able to use fcs1 fins in fcs2 plugs.
Yep im in the same boat. Heaps of old fcs1 fins

True that, only cost you a $1300 cup of coffee and a lovely conversation

Also with love because if I could afford a custom from McT or Joel Fitz I would be onto that. But us bottom feeders pick up whatever scraps we can afford.

Seriously though, yeah that is a big consideration when buying if you want to mess around with fins as much as I do. Still even with the pop outs like the Cjet and now the Diamond you have way more choice than when I was young, back then you took what was set in resin.

Talking to the guy I got the Diamond off he swears he will never buy a board with FCS2 in it ever again. He sliced his hand open big time trying to pull a fin and didn't realise he popped the plugs. Went surfing which didn't help and filled his EPS up with water, drained around a litre out of it and it was still going. Something not right there for sure.

It's not a case of who's feeding what, it's all about the stoke, what makes this forum good is meeting like minded people from all walks and I love it. I stick with my fins and don't get any with my knee boards which saves me 100 or 120 bucks pending fin set up. Oh and it's a 2k cup of coffee plus

Makes sense, so is that why they dropped to the 1/2" box due to tail thickness?

McCoy's shouldn't have a problem though.

Winner. You can buy a coffee on your way in to pick her up.

I sold the CJet for $25 more than what I paid for the Webber.

But not a winner because I still need to buy fins, no coffee for me.

Depends where you are?

This one is a nice looking twiny: www.gumtree.com.au/s-view-details.html?adId=1241852939

And this is a nice Webber Diamond: www.gumtree.com.au/s-view-details.html?adId=1234046612

Both below $400 and check out Gumtree and eBay for more.

I got my young fella a slightly dinged up 7'2 mini mal for $70, yes a pop out from Asia but it surfs great for his level of skill. A lot of fun for $70 and if you can patch a ding you will be streets ahead.

If none of that floats your boat and depending on your experience level try Sanctum as they have some really nice ones that are imports and reasonably priced. Also SBWH have some good ones with my favorite being the Carbon Jet.

Both those will suit learner to intermediate, if your more intermediate to advanced and have the coin try Clearwater, MacTavish or my favorite Joel Fitzgerald's Cosmic Twin or one of his two plus one designs.

Others should be able to confuse you with even more options to think about.

Best of luck.
