Roy in reference to your son being the NZ light heavyweight champ....its not what Boxing NZ reckon...

they say its a bloke called David Nyika who won the gold in 2014 commonwealth games...have they got it wrong?

Exactly what I was getting at, maybe Tristan is just his nickname?

Bueller?
Bueller?
Roy?
Anybody.....

What's the bet Roy conveniently misses your post too.

Righto. A couple of questions. I just read the link about your rockers and found it very interesting. The bit about displacement tails allowing less nose rocker made sense. Then you said you often use more anyway. Why do you do that? Why is lots of nose rocker a good thing? What's the downside as all designs are trade offs on something?

Just curious on your thoughts.

Tristan is current youth champ, he trains with David now and is in the open ( not age group) category. David's the man for sure, Tristan fought him once a couple of years ago.

Boxing NZ haven't updated their list of youth champs for quite a few years, so he's not on it.

More nose rocker gives more lift on the takeoff, downside is slightly less paddling speed. Noseriders are a different story but I don't make them.

Rocker is misunderstood ( at least in terms of measurements) by most shapers... nose and tail measurements are very misleading, it's the radius which really determines what the curve is. The board shown here has quite a lot of rocker in my opinion, but Maurice C said it is on the low side. That's an example of the misunderstanding.... we don't speak the same language when it comes to measuring.

2014 NZ Light-heavyweight YOUTH champion. I think maybe you just don't understand the difference between divisions because you aren't very well educated on the sport of boxing. You see, when you ASS/U/ME you make an ASS out of U and ME. Have a good one lads.

You're always pulling others up about crossing the t's and dotting the i's and so shoe is on the other foot.
He obviously checked the facts that were readily available and so asked for clarification.
Your abuse is unwarranted and unecessarily offensive.

How much are you selling the fins for Roy are they made in a mould?
I've been fin shopping for a couple of weeks and have been blown away
at some of the prices,100 up too 200.

Here's some fins made in Australia.
From the website:
Outer Island Owner and Shaper Mitchell Rae said "Over a number of years, I made numerous hand foiled fin sets exploring the clear parallels between aircraft wing foil technology and surfboard fins. After testing them extensively in various boards and conditions, I'm satisfied we have arrived at the magic set. The tip shape is designed to minimise drag and cavitation. Using an 85/15% foil ratio, the semi vertical base delivers quick response, while the raked tip produces progressive flex which enhances control. The resulting enjoys far greater traction than conventional shapes, managing laminar flow more efficiently. This increased effiency allows fin size to be reduced by approximately 15%, further reducing drag whilst increasing both speed and acceleration. Fins Unlimited in California digitised and refined the hand foiled originals, using NACA foil design software files, the same as those used by Boeing and NASA. The resulting fins are precision CAD machine cut from solid bias-laid fiberglass panels. We have now tooled up with a local manufacturer and are very happy to supply a 100% Australian made product.

Mitchell Rae makes FAST surfboards, understands where flex is needed in a board...I haven't tried the switchblades yet but it'll happen....I highly recommend his product, one of the few innovators in surfcraft.COSTALOTTA !

Eat your words.

Come to think of it maybe you could make those fins out of stainless, add a handle and give them away as a set with your boards when you do your advertorials.

bring on the test, very interested to see some 12-24footers ridden

but take the spitfire fin along....GFs don't drive, might be ok on big peaks but a down the line peeler will provide a surpise

ok, its not a standard GF, I know....

This thread is interesting to some, if you don't enjoy it don't read it and certainly don't reply to it, I have no affiliation with Roy or his business and I will probably never buy anything from him but I do enjoy seeing and learning something a little bit different from someone with a lot more skill than me.
Looking forward to the vid and reviews.
Cheers

I'm a dyed in the wool Spitfire fan, so will definitely be using one, the Gull Wing should be fine I think, although it does have quite a bit of flex.

You can expect to see some normal sized waves on it next.

One slight problem there Roy, I didn't make the above comment that you have put my name next to, I believe that comment was made by cuttlefish. So I guess you just made a liar of yourself.
Your second quote was my comment and it was in relation to my question to you on the previous page, see below;

Very ZEN Roy Was that you twin @3.15 mark?

Son Tristan, he spends most of his time boxing ( NZ light heavyweight champ) but slides a few now and then.

Got any links to any of his fights Roy? Can't find anything about him on line. Be good to see him in action...

As you can see nothing rude or untoward there^^^ Yet you completely ignore the question and an online search for Tristan Stuart, NZ Light Heavyweight Champion yields nothing. And then you abuse me when I query your lack of response and attribute another persons comments to me? Going so far as to cut and paste their comment and sticking it next to my name?

F*&k you, I find that act offensive. It also makes you a liar.

See you just proved my point and didn't need any help from me at all. Bravo

The rail has a constant radius and is 3/8ths of a circle in section nose to tail. Radius is 25mm. 'Release' happens at the vertical tail junction rather than on a flat hard edged horizontal surface as is done with planing tails.

A search for Tristan Allison will bring up 3 boxing videos, two from back when he was 15yrs old winning CNI champs and one from last year getting Ko'd by Commonwealth champion David Nyika. Tristan is 6'6" so suits a heavier weight.
