back to the 8 ' xl, I got one for a travel board, take it out in everything you can, mess around with the fin set up quad to thruster, you will get many years of enjoyment out of it and you will also find out what you can't do with it when you start charging some steeper drops. Thats part of the adventure

Hey Singlefin,

Got any pics or video of you riding that 8' SFXL. All my pictures are in whitewater, I could use some inspiration

As I have matured I have learned to accept compliments gracefully, regardless of whether I understand the whole sentence or not. Thanks Mate :D

ok the 7'3'' 7s or the 8' 7s weighing in at 100kgs don't know which way to go need suggestions

Asea go the 7'3" if you want the SB feel, so far I have had 2 surfs on my new 7 footer and have packed all my other boards away. I love this thing, it catches waves easier than my LB

sick board mate, I want one. though I dont know how it would go on the suckier waves. Im just a bit heavier and taller than you so interested in different boards you ride. for the record 610 traditional fish shape ( now retired due to damage) is my fav shape so that custom of yours floats my boat. Have heard good things about 7s boards though most owners comment on the flat rocker being an issue

The flat rocker is only an issue until you get used to it... (and maybe if you swap between boards all the time). I surf sucky beach breaks and have no problem. I think the SuperFish V2 has a tad more nose rocker.

Mate you are so close in that pic, as you get up try and place your front foot inbetween your hands before you get and take your time dont rush. If you try and get up too quick you will get out of balance much easier

Yeah that photo is weeks old now. Pop ups are getting easier and easier.
And when I remember to stand low with arms up it'sall good.

Don'tknow why but sometimes I have to climb up other times the board launches you up in one motion. Must be the angle of the board.

Wife is an excellent photographer, trying to convince to chase paid work. Should see some of the surfing photos she had taken of others.

Yes - quick.

Hard to explain, but a bit like a cross between a push-up and starting a 100m sprint race... a really spring.

As dumb as it sounds, you can practice this motion on your loungeroom floor - as there is no un-steady board/wave to deal with. You may notice that this is what the surf instructors do with the newbies on the beach before they go out.

Having said that, nearly every wave is different and there is no substitute for wave time to get better.

Yeah, got a yoga mat on the floor for just that reason, and when I get home from work and lie down on that thin sheet of rubber, and........................ I just want to close my eyes and relax. But on the weekend, 6am in the morning floating on a plastic log at the beach, feel like I am alive.

Easy solution give up work, obviously bad for my health :)

You gotta wait , she's got lots to do before selecting some fine pieces. She was at the lead up to the QSP for 3 hours standing in the rain, took more than 400 shots.

Hey Kadil, in some ways it's ironic that we learn to stand in the whitewater as its actually the hardest place to stand up. The board is flat and you have to push all of the way up. When taking off on a wave before its broken the board falls away from you so it takes less effort to get to your feet. BUT the timing is the incredibly hard part, it's a brain explosion to try to learn to stand and have timing. So you need to do it the hard way.

Your wife's photos have the look of someone who has surfed, she catches the action part of the wave. Surfers read this easily as they anticipate when the apex of a turn will be. Has she surfed before? Or is she holding down the button and getting lucky???

Love to see people get stoked on progress.

Thanks CMC,

I will pass that on as a compliment. No surfing experience except watching my son and I become surfing obsessed over the last few months. Never watched a pro comp on tv either. She only took a couple shots of each rider that day as her challenge (learned some time ago that taking thousands of photos, just means wasting time cleaning out the rubbish shots)

Spot on, it is very hard to stand in whitewater for two and a half hours holding an 8' plank. But I am happy that my muscle memory and fitness is improving. Fast paddle is definitely improving and popup's were so much easier than any previous attempts. I am certainly NOT a natural at picking up physical sports but progress is rewarding.

In contrast 17YO son took 2 surf lessons, only 5 weeks to get out back on a soft top 8' board riding head high waves. You can tell he is on the verge of nailing carving sometime soon on his new 6'9" performance fish. Ah to be young again.
