Bro I used to think I couldn't run/hated running as well...I had two knee recos and a fractured spine from playing rugby plus a list of dislocations, sprains and breaks you couldn't jump over...anyway I had ballooned out quite a bit and then last year I just got up and said f*%k it lets go....when i started I couldn't run for more than a minute at a time so I went one minute run one minute walk until I had done the 4k's....now I can run for a hour non-stop at a fair clip and I'm almost back down to playing weight...granted I'm no light-weight but I'm hope to knock of a half-marathon later this year....

I love running, but have had 4 bilateral meniscectomies in the last 9 years. Knees were in great she before, but had them hyperextended in a couple of accidents. Common sense tells me not to run, but I will try any advice to guide me.
By the way sense is far from common, and I never blindly follow sage advice. I make my own mind up.

What I have learned is that walking flat footed aggravates the knees. Weight bearing on the forefoot doesn't. I would like to extend this to running but haven't been game yet.
Very interested in barefoot philosophy. I don't think it is a good idea to go romping through the bush with unshod feet, but have experimented with Five Fingers and flat soled shoes. No difficulties so far.
Interestingly, I have had Duyptrons contractures on my feet since my mid twenties, but a change in gait has seen a 99% reduction in pain. I no longer use orthotics, and rarely use anti inflammatorys, and have not had a cortisone injection for years.

I guess the summary of all that is that I don't give up, (I am also inflexible ) and that there is always a way. i.e. after several years of not being able to spring to my feet, I did so at the weekend. Perseverance say's the old bull

Enjoy yr day off Prez - you do deserve it - its been a long hard slog for you. Make sure you go for a paddle with LL before you have the beers.....I think he may have a spare board or 5!!! If he needs to shorten a stick for you there is some good advice on the next floor down
