well Woodo, just a theory but it seems that one was hanging around Kalbarri for a long time at the end of summer this year which means they are up there and close to shore. Very rare for that area according to a few locals I know, so my theory is that for an attack to occur at the Bluff it must be either a tiger that's made a mistake and then another one (Suba's doggie theory or SPDT as I call it) as it came back for more. This is GWS predatory behaviour (thanks Shark Week!), I'm still pretty sure it's a tiger or reefie just being a shark but holy **** I've seen so many just cruising the channel and chasing your trout you've just hooked but never heard of the GWS up there. It seems that this is the season for statistical rarities so I'll have a bet that when the guy can tell us it may be whitey to blame, also rare for him to be able to tell us but a few have been able to over the years, one diver off Meelup a few years back and a dude down Walpole way.
Great Whites frequent the North West, including Ningaloo reef. so they are up there. That's a key migratory point for the ones that travel between Australia and Africa.
Still think it's most likely down to an over eager bronzie or maybe a Tiger. If it's a tiger then the bite marks will show it clearly as they have quite a distinct bite pattern compared to the other sharks in the region . We've all seen what their teeth look like and being bitten by one of them is not pretty.
can't blame them either, I like to migrate that way myself, unfortunately it's a rarity these days. If you tagged me you'd find an established pattern of movement and have an accurate understanding of my behaviour and prey items These have changed over the last two decades as I have a favoured breeding ground with an abundant food source that has not declined.
not only is Camel (one of the guys who helped pull Jon back to share) he is also a fearless big wave surfer:
Here's a really crappy gif that shows the movement of one of the tagged sharks that found it's way to Ningaloo.
soleman peeps just say they surf down south to try and get cred and yes love the 3 mile woodo
don't get much cred surfing tea rooms cott in yr boardies
The sad part is everyone is about stopping shark attacks as a few people are getting hurt/killed. Yet last nights 7 news really said nothing new other than to mention the guy who rescued the surfer. (huge hats of to him and i do believe he deserves the credit due), then the next story was about Llyod Raney maybe killing his wife and some garbled voice message. the third story was about a Asylum boat that has was in distress with 120 people on board.
So the priority of news is nothing new about a person injured participating in sport.
Old news about a marital dispute.
120 people lives at risk or at least in imminent danger
Today they are finding survivors in the ocean. [}:)]
Maybe tomorrow's news should be why the media beat up such sh-t all the time
it's a double edged sword JB the old media mantra is "if it bleeds it leads" followed by proximity to the media outlet, e.g. local goes before national. However, it can also be seen as a positive. If the media continue to run it in a sensational way (using GWS images like perthnow and The West) it will lead to skepticism and ultimately understanding that this issue is being sensationalised, fooling people some of the time is easy, but all of the time is hard (known as a saturation point) So hang in there as we haven't reached that point as far as I can see, the culling lobby is gathering momentum....
Bakesy they ran a poll on the seven fb page and the supporting a cull was less than 30% of total vote. So they didn't run the results as promised[}:)]
I just believe if people really supported a cull then they should use the demographic right and push and promote it as much as they can. Not just for two days after an attack
I don't think we will see much change in our life time. Our kids though will be left to deal with what we do today
From my perspective I've never met a single person that has been in support of culling sharks. Not a single one, not even from conversations with random people.
Not saying your wrong woodo but we're both seeing very different public attitudes here.
