I read here that somebody got there boom grip replaced with a profiled V Grip shaped foam.
Im wondering where to get the foam from or who does it.
Any help would be great

You cam make your own by mixing the fur of a British Shorthair with kwik-grip and keeping it in a glass jar. Just brush on a thick coat on the inside of the boom then lay your new grip over the top.

Ive decided to give it a go myself.
Ordered a sheet of 2mm EVA.
Will build up a EVA V shape hump on the boom before covering.
Thinking it will be nice and comfy on the inside of my fingers.
This could be the best thing in the whole wide world ,
or....
Totally crap

Have you thought of the real V-grip made by AERON and are available in Alloy, Hybrid and Carbon.

I have done a couple of double layer re-grips for some guys with big mits, worked well I believe, felt comfy.

Not sure how it will stand up to the harness lines though, maybe leave that section plain round and only build up in the area where you hold on.

I had a alloy V grip and it was great to hang onto until i bent it.
I have a big carbon RSX 225-265 but the grip is falling off and its tiring to hang onto because of the large diameter. So i think this might help.
Anyway , old grip is off and im stuck into it !

I converted my big Maui boom to a V grip by gluing a split batten tube on the inside of the arms, worked well but up for sale now as I don't need it any longer.

^^ +1

Great job, and good to see somebody trying stuff. I reckon it will be better than a "real" v-grip due to the little bit of squishiness in the added v bit.

I did that to a v grip carbon boom. Eva down the inside and then an elastoplast sports tape wrap..

Elastoplast tape is thinner and has better grip than Eva. You don't need padding the whole way round the boom for freeride and slalom.. So you can save maybe 3mm on grip diameter by going for tape.

Test report ,
Friggin awesome
Todays sail , 5 to 25 kts , gusty angle changing death grip conditions , 8.7 NP H2.
Perfect testing.
Apart from feeling good , only used half the energy hanging on.
Relaxed grip helps everything ,( even had a wee while planing ) , that's relaxed !
No marks left from harness lines.
To say I'm happy is an understatement , ( thinking of doing it to my new smaller perfect condition boom )
It IS almost the best thing in the whole wide world
How do I patent this ???

For anyone interested , after more testing the boom grip modification is great.
Feels good and easy to hang onto.
No harness marks or problems.
Would highly recommend ( bit of a job but not too hard )

Selleys contact adhesive .,
ps. neatness trick ,
Before applying put masking tape along the edge of the grip,
then slice thru the tape and grip with a razor blade a 45 degree tiny strip along the edge,
glue boom , grip and the cut angle ( the tape stops the glue getting on the outside of the grip )
apply the masked angled edge to the outside of the boom,
i used a hard roller and slowly wrapped around the boom and overlapped the angled part.
cut with a razor the overlapped excess, peel off the tape and sand back any left over.
Can't even see where the join is

If you don't remove the tape you won't be able to trim the join as the grip will be stuck to the tape.

Hi Imax1, great looking idea! My hands tire quickly. Im keen to give it a go. Qs. How thick is V hump? Positioned at inner most, widest point of boom diameter in a horizontal plane. Or slightly above horizontal? With the V hump, is the standard boom grip from shops wide enough to cover completely?

Only the overlapped part will touch the tape.No problem , you can get in close with the blade. There will only be a tiny line of tape and grip left.Easy to sand down perfectly.
