Amazing , so 300 for the next nationals

Amazing prediction, particularly in view of border closures and restrictions among the states at present.

Yes and even more so. Here is WA legend, Snides out for a cruise.

Here is a good video from Italy showing so.

www.facebook.com/windsurferclass/videos/260171544980312/

Also you can freestyle it, wave sail it, surf it like a traditional mal or SUP it. A brilliant multidisciplinary board. It is also a great one design raceboard. There are some videos around showing so.

It is a brilliant board that can be used on any given Sunday in lightwinds to race or muck around on even when there is not enough wind to foil.

I would urge you to get on board now there is a great bunch of sailors in Victoria including a current overall world champion.

"But wait, you want more ?"
You can even iron your bell bottom pants on it,
but wait,
you still want more ?
If you buy one now we will throw in a second one for free. Just pay separate postage and handling.

Oh, That explains it. So it's not a 45% increase in price from $2000 to $2900.
It's a 50% discount .....when you buy a second one.

Whats an LT anyway?

I also did not know and was frustrated with this thread - so I checked it out and got this:

The Windsurfer LT equipment is fun and accessible for the whole family. Whether you are a seasoned windsurfer or just getting into the sport the Windsurfer Class is an idea way to practice and improve your sailing in a fun and social community. The equipment is simple. The official 5.7m sail is suitable for almost all sailors in most racing conditions and it?s simple rigging parts make assembly significantly easier than most modern racing equipment.

The kid looks like he is really embarrassed and pretending he isn't related to the old bloke, otherwise he might get beat up at school on monday.

It is probably no surprise that a lot of old fellas who raced boards in the day, and possessing garages full of a wide range of expensive but aging gear, have been watching this discussion carefully.
So am I right in thinking an LT package could (in spite of a bunch of us no longer wanting to race a wally) be a useful thing to throw on the roof racks for a holiday or even a lap around oz with the van? The attraction of SUP in flat or choppy water, glide in a few knots, play in the waves as a windsup, and blast in fresh stuff at maybe a max of 25 knots with such a small package of lowtech gear has got us talking.
Thoughts?

@Plywoodboy

I club race mine in Sydney.
I also take it away on my 30' cat. I can rig the sail on the front tramp and enjoy cruising around the bays. It's also been a tender, a SUP and an introduction to fellow weekenders interested in the new "old" board.

So yeah, it ticks a few boxes for me...

This about sums it up for me, although I'm pretty keen to race when I can. Waves, yes, but slow and small. Hit 21knt speed at lake Illawarra yesterday. Maybe 25kn of breeze. According to old mate who was there. So, for me, it's a heap of boxes:
> racing
> blasting for giggles. wrestling and footwork in wind and waves!
> sup for long cruises
> Catching waves with the kids on the front. > have blasted in 15-20kn with kids on front. > work trips: put board on and sail in random spots where-ever. Inland dams, ocean, bays. > have done a short coastal cruise. Awesome. I have an up to date short board and rigs, but would give it up before lt, I think!

Great video. I learnt a lot from it so thanks for sharing.

The video touched on kids from 12 and up using the gear. It would be fantastic if a class compliant kids rig was available. The 4m sail rigged on the lt mast and boom is too heavy for kids to use full stop.

The kids in qld on the lt are using 3.8m rigs. Like severne redback and the prolimit rig.

It would be great to see a 4m Superlight kids rig developed. It needs to be more than a triangle cloth sail on lightweight wave mast as that's still too heavy over 8-10 kn.

Something with low aspect, lightweight cloth or film and alloy mast and boom would do the job.

The little orange LT 4m training sail is fine for getting fairly light kids going, my young bloke would have been about 35kg when he started and had no problem with the weight of it. Just rig it quite flat and it pops out of the water easly.
The 4m school sail does get pretty flappy in the leech when powered up as it only has the top batten, but the flappy leech didn't bother him, just looks crappy

The beauty is you can pretty much use any old mast and boom. They will grow out of it pretty quickly so no use spending much money or over thinking it. by 45/50kg they can handle the 5.7 sail alot of the time and change back to the little sail when it blows.
kids pick up windsurfing quickly.

i wish i had the same experience. i can't imagine my son using the 5.7m just yet.
on a 4.0m triangle sail in over 8-10 knots he struggles to uphaul.....let alone flare gybe. on his wave sail he's doing heli tacks and trying rail rides in the same wind and able to sail in the ocean in 15 knots.

from what i was told they had a pretty healthy kids fleet at the nationals. i'd be keen to know ages. could just be the kids in my circle.
for my son and his mate the thought is if they want to race in any weather and do freestyle on class legal kit it simply isn't possible.

The cruiser division is designed to get or keep people racing, if your kid can't uphaul a junior sail, no problem use any rig that he can uphaul.i think the age was 13 upwards.

yeah the cruiser division is a brilliant initiative of the windsurfer class. Shorter course, racing with kids and adults of similar ability. good intro into racing for kids.
I am not 100% sure but think kids can use any small sail in this division.

if you get an opportunity get your son to try the LT training sail. it does seem to work well with these boards and I think be easier then a wave sail to race a triangle course.

that's one solution.

another would be to have a class legal rig for kids aged between 9-14 years that allows true one design racing and freestyle. a solution more in keeping with the LT philosophy of a do it all one design board for everyone and a solution that would go a very long way to boosting the grass roots junior numbers.

kids rigs, kids wave sails etc satisfy weight and ease of use and for now are the best choice, but they are not really working efficiently upwind and downwind in light winds because the draft and shape is not designed for that purpose.

At the moment the cruiser division works well !
i can not speak for the Aust windsurfer class about making a new division.
