Are big standard jumps in polesurfing still cool......?
or do you need to throw in a loop for good measure ?
Cause big standard jumps in kiting are now not cool.
But they're cool if you throw down a kiteloop in it.

I always liked those high poley jumps that had a delay at the apex....
and then the rider drops down in a full-blown nose-first descent.....
and sticks the landing like honey-toast.
Rad.

didn't you used to be a poley wavey?

if you your memory need refreshing;

easy = uncool

in windsurfing everythings cool because nothings easy, except going fast and riding in chop i now understand why kiters hate chop

Guilty as charged.

But just because kiters can jump huge without the need of a wave,
(or even a chop),
that doesn't make it necessarily easy.
lol.

Are you kidding????? How fast have you gone????

My PBs are going up .1 of a knot at a time, getting from 32kt to 35kt has taken me 7 months. Not sure if I'll ever make 40kt and the best guys are pushing 50kt!!! That's over 90km/hr, I'm struggling to do 65km/hr.
Just strap on a gps one day and try it!!!!

The term "easy" means different things to different people.

To the newbie, Planing, getting into the footstraps and harness is the coolest thing they can do and they're stoked

The intermediate sailor is belting along doing reasonable jumps and cutting up waves and to them it's cool and they're also stoked

The guns are doing forwards-backwards-twisty-turny things, destroying inocent monster waves and flying along at ridiculous speeds and to them it's cool and they're also stoked

Myself I like seeing a bloody big windsurfer jump and hang as I know I'll never do it myself.

I also like seeing a bloody big controlled boost in the surf by a kiter projecting of the lip to get that extra height and landing it sweetly, the twisty turny look at me mum I've found my feet wake boarding type stuff doesn't float my boat but other people get of on it, which is cool also.

Whats cool is what puts a smile on your dial and appreciating other peoples stoke as well.

Whats uncool is judging people by what moves they can or can't do, thats just sad and pathetic be they Polies, teabaggers or whatever

As a side note.

I think the 'slave was asking a serious question as there is some major ego's in the Kiting crew which look down on people doing basic moves.

The Slave generally plays in the surf where doing the twisty turny look at me mum stuff is not generally practiced, but the guys at our local will charge out like a windsurfer and get some projection and boost of the lip.

To me thats cool

Yo windy,
You need to stop looking under your shoulder and start looking over it.
Watched a few of your attempts out at Hang Over Bay that day and you're stalling the rotation by looking under your arm.
Looking over your shoulder throws your head into the move... being the heaviest part of your body where your head goes the rest will follow

Keep working at it... you're not far off them

i love watching windsurfers fang and hit the wave and keep same angle as when they hit and just float approx 2m in the air for a distance of about 10m and continue on the full plane

Windsurfing jumps stopped being cool when kiting came along.

How many of your non-windsports friends/family have said "wow! look how high those windsurfers can jump" lately?

Doesn't look cool when the kiter next to you is jumping 4x higher.

Sorry.

when kiting first came out i thought it was so gay the jumps they were doing pull on the bar and yeeepeeeee! i still think jumps on windsurfs look better and are far more radical considering you are truly launching off a chop and not just getting pulled up by the wind. when a kiter takes forever to come down and then just slows right down at the end and glides back on the water i still think it looks gay.

How about 40kt+?????

Took your old board to the estuary today, to see how fast it was, but it killed the wind, was blowing fine here, but didn't reach the flat stuff.
Not sure if I want to try again!

ppfft,

what makes windsurfers think they only go out in strong wind? They make small kites remember, just not everyone invests in them. It's sort of a justification reason, why buy a 5m if your going to use it twice a year.

Slaves right, all you see around metro area are poor attempts of backy's about 20% landing rate at best. No one goes for the big hang time or forwards.

Kiting's not hard once the flying skills are suss'd, but windsurfing is just as easy. I've not been on a sailboard for 10 years, I would bet if I got on one, after a session I could beat 60% of the guy's at my local in a race from what they display.

Anyone want to lend me some gear for 2 sessions and prove me wrong, I'll eat humble pie.
