I know a lot of people love to show off their GoPro videos.
Some people love GoPro others hate it. Whichever applies to you the following is how it should be done:http://video.mpora.com/watch/SA0bDZVnX/
Thats pretty close to the benchmark. Plus there is no nostril-cam or baldspot-cam.. I'd say the distance the mount is away from the rider almost eliminates the disorientation that I always get when watching mounted GoPoos.
I am half way to buying GoPoo if I could replicate this guys setup. The sailings not bad either!
The batten looks pre tensioned with another batten to stop the up/down wobble. These guys obviously run a custom board shop and looks like they have plenty of time to test the angles and dangles.
Kimba made one
i made one with a tubual carbon batten and a solid HDPE block bolted to a HDPE plate inside the harness.
it looks like the coffins that come down onto the stage in the metallica world magnetic tour \m/
it was a bit on the heavy side since taking that first shot so i took to it with a belt sander. that also allowed me to angle it further away from vertical. the finish is not the best after i sanded it but the edges are a bit rounder. i had to cut the batten into 3 pieces to fit inside my suitcase without arousing too much suspicion from customs. so the dodgy tape job wouldnt be necessary otherwise. in one piece the batten could be longer- the longer the batten the better view but it can sometimes get knocked on the mast/sail when water starting. i now have a nice carbon rob to use that is tapered, still quite stiff but i have to drill out the hole to fit the bigger diameter rod.

I want to get a GoPro for Spring. Which is the best model to get for windsurfing, the 960p or 1080p?
Get the GoPro HD.
In regards to this thread I don't really like shots from GoPros on extended mounts. They are too distracting. Both from the harness or attached to the board the strut dominates the view.
I'm not sure what the answer is. Perhaps engineering a strut that comes up at a right angle to so the one extended is out of the shot.
Shots from helmets and masts do it for me.
Yep. The HD version. I havent used the 1080p mode with mine, always shooting at 720p 60 frames a second. It's good fun taking some video of a windsurfing session and making a little clip.
Just invested in a Go Pro and I'm stoked with it. I purchased the 1080 model but find I do most of my filming on 960 setting.
Awesome clip
^^ I did guess it was rental gear, by the colour of the water, and the rental sticker.. But I'll never miss an opportunity to publicly criticize the windsurfing crew with thousands of dolars worth of current model kit matched with $50 aluminum booms...
this is a pretty cool angle as well i reckon. gives a good sense of speeed when you are watching it.
All this Go-pro footage stuffed onto hard drives will be like gold when the knees and shoulders are gone and we're contemplating selling the boards in favour of a model railway setup.
Just sit in front of the TV in a damp wetshirt, run the footage and remember the good old days.
